How to Take Delivery of your New Car

Congratulations! Youve booked yourself a new car and are now eagerly awaiting delivery. We know its been hard work researching and choosing from the myriad options, test driving several cars, and finally negotiating the deal with the dealership. We hope that CarWale has been able to help you through this journey, and now theres just one last leg left taking delivery of your car. But its not quite as simple as that it never is. Weve made a list of a few small but important points for you to check on before you sign on the dotted line and the car is registered in your name. We strongly suggest you print this list and take it with you to the dealership for the Pre-delivery inspection.

Before You Begin Insist on a Pre-Registration Inspection

Yes, it is critical to inform your dealership that you would like to inspect your car before registration formalities begin. Many dealerships take this step for granted and will just go ahead and choose one car from their stock and have it registered in your name. Remember, once a car is registered in your name, it is highly unlikely that the unit would be replaced by the dealer (or even the manufacturer) in case any defects are found. The industry practice is that these defects are repaired during the first service. Reminding your sales representative closer to your delivery date will also go a long way in ensuring that you have the opportunity to conduct a pre-registration inspection.

Time of Day
We strongly recommend that you take delivery of the car during day light hours. Mornings and early afternoons work best. As sunlight fades after 4pm it becomes difficult to notice smaller defects and slight changes in colour shades.

Two Inspections Not One

This document is designed to help you with two inspections: A) Pre-Registration this inspection is done at the dealers stock yard before the car is registered in your name. At this stage, if you find any defects or problems, you have the opportunity to request a different unit. B) Pre-Delivery this is the second inspection made at the showroom on the day you are taking delivery. Here you need to ensure that everything is exactly the same as per your pre-registration inspection and that all the accessories you have asked for have been fitted. You should ensure that you adequately test all the accessories and features that you may not have been able to test at the pre-registration stage.

Things to Take Along

1. Camera very useful to take photographs of your gleaming new beauty to show off to your family and friends, and also in the off-chance that you notice some defects.

2. A friend / acquaintance Whether your friend knows a lot about cars or not, it is always useful to have a second persons opinion. They might notice things that you have missed out on. 3. Mithai After all, taking delivery of your car is a joyous and happy occasion, and happiness deserves to be shared. Laddoos, Burfi and chocolates go a long way in strengthening your relationship with the dealership staff, and you may need to call upon them for assistance with your car at a later date. Its not a bribe, just a way of saying thank you. 4. Your favourite music take a long a CD / USB drive with your music on it to test the music system of the car. 5. Two printed copies of the check list One for you, one for your friend.
