The Jonathan Jones Learning Institute Inc.

PRESS RELEASE
SATURDAY COMPUTER LAB
Oakland, CA April 11, 2009: The Jonathan Jones Learning Institute Inc. is a non-profit organization establish in 1999 from funding by Lynch Foundation of Napa, CA created to serve youths and young adults in an At-Risk Community, the Bay Area, specifically, Oakland, California. Our vision for the Jonathan Jones Learning Institute Inc. is to provide our youth and community with the ability to access adequate technological resources, primarily, computer and basic writing skills. Mrs. Gwen Lewis, owner of Nikasia Childcare, has agreed to assist us with a generous offer of support. She is providing a space to us to conduct computer classes for our community on Saturday and we call it Saturday Computer Lab. This collaboration between the Jonathan Jones Learning Institute Inc., and Nikasia Childcare, developed because of a generous donation of IBM ThinkPad laptops from Zhone Technology of Oakland, California in an effort to do their part. Another donation of HP color printers from the Operator Engineering Federal Credit Union of Livermore, California, inspired this collaboration. We will offer classes in basic computer skills, which will be taught by a high school student we are training to be an instructor. Also Adobe Photoshop CS3, Dreamweaver CS3 and Microsoft Publisher will be taught in the form of a website design and desktop publishing classes. Also being taught, Business Plan writing, Grant searching, and basic writing. Youth and parents in the community will participate. We will be co-offering the Byte Size Tutor which was developed for the underachievers whose academic skill level is far behind their peers. We understand Tthe shame of needing help in the classroom, and peer pressure from other students. This lethal combination may compel the student to drop out of school all together. The Byte Size Tutor program allows the student to LEARN at different academic levels at an individual pace with the computer as the tutor. . ACADEMIC INTERVENTION is presented to the youth in software programs such as, Rosetta Stone in English and Spanish, Academy of Reading, arcade style drills and test taking software. The relative newness of this collaboration and the lack of resources to mount an extensive at-risk community program have limited our ability to enlist business and neighborhood support. We need you to assist us in building this program for our community. This proposal seeks funding for these important programs. This project is an effort to bring computer technology to low-income children, teenagers and family. Finally, to reach our mission, we seek to launch an innovative partnership with your Corporation consisting of funding, in-kind gifts or volunteer efforts. We look forward to exploring the possibilities with you. Thank you for considering our request. Please call Joseph Jones, our Executive Director, if you need additional information.

. For Release 9 a.m. EDT, April 11, 2009
