PREFACE

SCOPE
The scope of this specification embraces the preparation of survey plans for The University of Adelaide including topographic or detail and as constructed surveys and specifically the requirements and methodology for surveyors and contractors in adding to and maintaining coherent, consistent and accurate survey data over the campus. This specification is for the correct use and management of The University of Adelaide survey control network which is an essential part of maintaining this spatial integrity.

APPLICATION.
The specification indicates required methods of presenting survey information on drawings before, during and after construction works. Such drawings and information should conform to the requirements as directed by The University of Adelaide.

Procedure
Survey Control Network

Copies of the latest established control networks plan is attached and is available in DWG format on request to Property Services. The coordinates and levels of the DBMs and PSMs depicted on this plan were correct at the time of installation but may be subject to the effects of subsidence and/or disturbance. Onus is on the individual contractor to report any errors found between network marks to The University of Adelaide, Property Services, Facilities Records and where unacceptable discrepancies are found, resolution from The University of Adelaide, Property Services, Facilities Records is required prior to setting out of new, as-constructed or detail surveys works are performed. Horizontal and vertical control is available throughout the site and control marks may be: (a) PMs - Brass plaque stamped ADELAIDE UNIVERSITY SURVEY MARK (b) DBMs - Deep bench marks. (c) Nails, pins, scribes in concrete or secondary control markers.

2.2

Origin of Coordinates The University of Adelaide North Terrace Campus coordinate origin is based on PSM 6628/13810 at the corner of Victoria Drive and Frome Rd with a reference bearing to PSM 6628/13827 at the corner of Frome Road and North Terrace. All coordinates supplied in the survey control network drawing are at 1:1 ground scale i.e. scale factor of 1.0. MGA94 coordinates to the PSM's as at July 4th 2007 are: PSM 6628/13810 Easting: 281300.216 Northing: 6133568.917 Elevation: 28.231 RL AHD PSM 6628/13827 Easting: 281481.748 Northing: 6133111.945 Elevation: 38.253 RL AHD

2.3

Vertical Control All levels are to be recorded in AHD (Australian Height Datum) unless specified otherwise. The contractor shall adopt a reliable benchmark or establish a reliable benchmark by application of appropriate survey procedures from reliable control marks such as a Permanent Survey Mark (PSM) or Deep Bench Mark (DBM). Where any unacceptable discrepancies in control marks due to land settlement, disturbance or other factors are apparent , a discrepancy report will be prepared by the contractor and referred to The University of Adelaide, Property Services, Facilities Records for resolution prior to setting out of any works or any asconstructed or detail surveys are performed.

2.4

Horizontal Control The horizontal control for each project shall be based on the existing survey stations. The contractor may place additional survey stations (if required) and include them in their job report on completion. The contractor shall establish reliable horizontal control and where unacceptable discrepancies in control marks are apparent, it will be referred to The University of Adelaide, Property Services, Facilities Records for resolution prior to setting out of any works or any as-constructed or detail surveys are performed.

2.5

As-Constructed Surveys All as-constructed drawings shall be surveyed in 3 coordinates: Easting, Northing and Height (AHD). This will enable The University of Adelaide, Property Services, Facilities Records to establish the geometric relationship with all other projects. As-constructed survey providing a description, horizontal and vertical locations of the following services and features shall be obtained in accordance with the following requirements:

2.5.1 Service and Utilities Prior to any backfilling or covering, information on all underground services shall be obtained in situ including but not limited to: 2.5.1. a Electrical and Mechanical Services Data cables Fibre optic cables Communication cables

Electrical cables high voltage & low voltage Earth stakes Telecommunications cables Hydraulic Services

2.5.1. b

Water mains Sewer pipes and sumps Other services

Stormwater pipes Irrigation and sprinkler lines

2.5.1. c

Gas lines Reclaimed water pipes Dedicated fire water pipes

Compressed Air Oil lines

Alternatively where immediate backfilling is required, the contractor shall place suitable lengths of minimum 50mm PVC pipes vertically plumbed down onto the service prior to backfilling. The pipe frequency of location should reflect any service direction, change of grade or particular fittings at each location. Where necessary the contractor shall number pipes and keep an accurate record of the service type, construction, size and fitting at each location. Survey should then be carried out at the earliest opportunity. 2.5.2 Existing services Where the contractors work exposes or interacts with existing services, the contractor shall locate and record the details of all such features and services and submit as-built data in accordance with The University of Adelaide, Property Services, Facilities Records guidelines.
