COMET Acoustics

Software for Advanced Acoustic Analysis & Design

www.cometacoustics.com

OVERVIEW
Comet Acoustics is a computer simulation software for solving sound and vibration problems. Comet offers advanced capabilities that make it the most comprehensive acoustic software available. Comet utilizes boundary and finite element methods as well as analytical techniques to accurately predict the propagation, radiation and transmission of acoustic waves in a variety of media including fluids, foams, and solids. Comet allows systematic analysis and design improvement of acoustic products at the early stages of product development and as a result reduces the need to rely on costly physical prototypes. The ability to perform the analysis and design at the early state of design process enhances the quality of the product as well as reduces the time for the product to reach the market thereby reducing overall cost.

Comet BEAT
BEAT is a boundary element method based program for the acoustic analysis of fluids and fluid-structure interactions. This module of COMET is used to analyze noise fields within enclosures such as automotive or aircraft interiors and for evaluating acoustic performance of products that radiate noise. BEAT consists of many advanced features that are useful in evaluating and improving the acoustic performance of products in many industries. Specialized features such as Panel Acoustic Contribution Analysis (PACA), structural-acoustic sensitivity analysis, diffuse field analysis, and mean flow analysis, are part of this software. In addition to frequency response (harmonic) analysis, BEAT can also perform acoustic eigenfrequency and transient analyses.

Comet SAFE
SAFE is a finite element based program that allows the analysis of sound traveling through various media including fluids, solids, and foam-like substances, for overall approach to sound management. SAFE allows users to design optimal control treatments with such elastic porous materials as glass fiber, mineral wool, and a variety of cell foams. The development of SAFE was partially funded by the National Aeronautics & Space Administration (NASA).

Comet SoRT
SoRT is an integrated experimental/numerical technique for noise source identification in complex systems based on generalized nearfield acoustical holography. SoRT allows noise source identification on complex three-dimensional sources based on measurements taken in the neighborhood of noise sources. This unique tool can identify not only coherent noise sources, but also multiple incoherent and partially coherent noise sources. The development of this module was partially funded by the National Aeronautics & Space Administration (NASA).

Comet Trim
Trim is an analytical tool for the modeling of planar, multi-layer, noise control treatments. This module can be used for the rapid evaluation of the acoustic characteristics of multi-layered sound absorbent since no modeling is required. Additionally the Trim module can be used to inversely characterize macroscopic properties of elastic porous materials based on measured absorption coefficient and/or transmission loss. Trim also computes acoustic performance sensitivity with respect to macroscopic materials properties which can be used to develop noise control treatments with optimal acoustic performance.

Comet CAPE
CAPE is a graphical user based application that guides and expedites the process of acoustical performance evaluation and optimization of noise control treatments in passenger vehicles. CAPE allows the user to start with an existing template SEA model that incorporates SEA modeling best practices and expertise. The user develops SEA model that represents a specific design by selecting a template model from the library and modifying the geometry by one component at a time using utilities provided in CAPE. An intuitive graphical user interface allows subsequent noise control optimization.
