    Owl Mitts are a simple fingerless glove pattern, featuring a stretchy ribbed cuff and simple cable pattern that results in a pair of cute owls. The cuffs are worked the same, but the owl cable pattern and thumb gusset are worked on different sides for each hand. The pattern is knit entirely in the round and much easier to work using the magic loop method, but can also be done on DPN's.

    This is a simple fingerless glove pattern, featuring a stretchy ribbed cuff and simple cable pattern that results in a pair of cute owls. You could even add button eyes for more interest.

    Materials
    100 yds Punta Merisoft Solid Shown in: Maroon, Mustard, Aqua, & Taupe 32 or 40" (or long enough to do magic loop) size US #8/5mm circular needle or 1 set of DPNs size US #8 Stitch markers Cable Needle

    Gauge
    4 sts/6 rows= 1 in stockinette stitch

    Size
    Womans S/M to fit 7-8 hand, 6-7 wrist

    Notes
    This pattern is knit entirely in the round and much easier to work using the magic loop method, but can also be done on DPNs. Both cuffs are worked the same, but the owl cable pattern and thumb gusset are worked on different sides for each hand.

    Owl Mitts 2009 Sandy Satre

    Right Mitt
    CO 30 sts, 15 sts on each needle. Join in rnd, being careful not to twist sts. Work 1x1 rib for 3 (about 22 rows). Begin working owl cable chart at start of next rnd. At the same time, you will begin the thumb gusset on Row 3 of chart. Work Row 1 of chart, k16. Work Row 2 of chart, k16.

    Thumb gusset
    Rnd 1: Work Row 3 of chart, pm, kf&b, kf&b, pm, k 14. Rnd 2: Work Row 4 of chart, k to end of rnd. Rnd 3: Work Row 5 of chart, slm, kf&b, k to 1 before m, k f&b, slm, k to end of rnd. Rnd 4: Work Row 6 of chart, k to end of rnd. Repeat Rnds 3&4, working respective chart rows, until you have 16 sts between markers. You should now be on Row 16 of the chart.

    Close thumb gusset


    Work Row 16 of chart, slm, k3, BO13, slm, (You should have 2 thumb gusset sts on the right side of the BO and 1 on the left side) k to end of rnd. Work Row 17 of chart, (drop markers this rnd) k1, k2tog, k to end of rnd. Continue working chart, k all other sts.

    After finishing chart


    K 1 row. P 1 row. K 1 row. BO all sts. Weave in ends.

    Left Mitt
    Work cuff same as for right mitt. K16, work Row 1 of chart. K16, work Row 2 of chart.

    Thumb gusset
    Rnd 1: K13, pm, kf&b, kf&b, pm, k1, work Row 3 of chart. Rnd 2: K18, work Row 4 of chart. Rnd 3: K13, slm, kf&b, k to 1 before m, k f&b, slm, k1, work Row 5 of chart. Rnd 4: K to 2nd marker, k1, work Row 6 of chart. Repeat Rnds 3&4, working respective chart rows, until you have 16 sts between markers. You should now be on Row 16 of the chart.

    Close thumb gusset


    K13, slm, k3, BO13, slm, (you should have 2 thumb gusset sts on the right side of the BO and 1 on the left side) k1, work Row 16 of chart. K14, (drop markers this rnd) k2tog, k1, work Row 17 of chart. Continue working chart, k all other sts.

    After finishing chart


    K 1 row. P 1 row. K 1 row. BO all sts. Weave in ends.
