Garcia 1 Dennes Garcia Ms.

Caruso English 1101 28 October 2011 Genre Defense Lollapalooza is one the most musically diverse festivals at a global scale, but choosing a souvenir from this festival as a text to rhetorically analyzeysis is a difficult task. A The original genre for the bracelet was bracelets. Bracelets was chosen because it was the most obvious and it was understood that the general public would not disagree with itsthis the corresponding genre. Most people would agree that the genre for a Lollapalooza bracelet would be bracelets. The message that is was trying to being conveyed iswas that the purpose of a bracelet or bracelets iswas to serve as a form of identification. It is very difficult to convey a message with something so simple. There is one-way most people in the world see this object and it had to be seen further than that. Describing the bracelet without mentioning it, is an interesting task, which was kept in the poem is something that must be kept on the genre recreation project. Writing the poem as an extended metaphor helps the reader gain an idiosyncratic understanding of its purpose; the poem connects to the reader in anyway it can. Another issue that continued to reoccur when writing the rhetorical analysis was the lack of connection to the audience or even my self. The bracelet needs to have a personal connection with the reader or needs to be an extended metaphor. The original genre chosen did in fact convey the correct message under a proper understanding of the audience, and even helps to understand the obvious in a profound way.

Garcia 2 For the most part anThe author of any paper wants to have control over his writing, but a rhetorical analysis looses that reality. It was the way things were. In other words, the genre, bracelets, can be understood in many different opinions, therefor, bracelets becomes a hypothesis. Classifying the Lollapalooza bracelet under a specific category brings many different thoughts, making it a subjective genre. With this in mind, the reason behind the poem is obvious. A poem gives the writer a chance to give the audience something that is not understood for its literal meaning but rather the emotion connection or subliminal message that is shown through the authors diction. Another problem with the original genre or the paper its self was that there are various opinions towards something so simple, that even a basic bracelet can be taken the wrong way. Many references to politics and allusions were made that no one caught on to. After dealing with all of these a chance to write something that everyone would understand in his or her own way came along. I decided to write a poem because then it would not be read for its literal understanding, but the message the diction is trying to convey instead. The new genre will give me a chance to connect to the bracelet stead of writing it from a general view. In general, a bracelet has a particular meaning/purpose to its user, which iswas identification (original);, but Iin the poem the bracelet stands for a deeper meaning and what it means to author. Originally, the poem was The poem was originally written as a love poem from my experiences with the bracelet and the time period it was received. Once recaps of all of those experiences were established, a realization occurred where I took ignorant is bliss to the fullest and finally realized what was really wrong with what I was repressing.I was setting myself up to be a tool. Rather than writing a poem about a true love in the most embarrassing way possible, a parody is was the best choice. The parody would help connect the experiences and emotions

Garcia 3 felt at the time to one accurate culmination. me laugh over a stressful time I experienced and make the connection to the bracelet more obvious. There needs to be a connection between the reader and the author, a poem makes that possible. I decided to write a satire because I made poor decisions at thats time, but continued to say I was in loveThe satire is a mockery of the experiences. Undergoing, depression, confusion, and many moments of uncertainty, the poem expands on each of those emotions from the experiences in which they came from. The text

remains the same but the poem new genre asks a very common question amongst the audience, What does this bracelet mean to youthe author? The reader will ask many questions as to why something was done, or said in the poem, but as the title gives away, the reader should make a connection to what is said and how it relates to the title. In the first peer review, feedback was repetetive: why did you pick this, who gave you this, and does this have a deeper meaning to you? At first I realized it really didnt mean too much to me, I just told people that my girl friend gave it to me; this didnt say much as to why the bracelet was chosen, but soon enough it became a clever work of art. At first the responses were all the same, aw how cute (I laughed). mMost readers people are expecting a sweet poem written for a my current girlfriend, and it might sound sweet, but in reality it is a hypocritical satire of true love. Moore over, the rules werehad to bent a bit prior to writing the poem because this could have been told as a short story;, so the story was written out first to accommodate the poem. There arewill be quotes of the short story in the poem so that it makes more sense to the reader. To start, the title Always Remembered, Never forgotten served as an allusion to the 9/11 attacks in 2001, as both a serious/satirical matter. The first thought would be the casual, what an adorable title for a gift from someone special aw how cute, as a literal sense, but in reality, the bracelet was completely repressed into my memory that it has been forgotten about,

Garcia 4 always. I completely forgot I had this bracelet in my possession since it was received. ordinarily, most people know the date in which Lollapalooza took place; during this time is when the poem took place, July 31st through August 7th.This poem takes place between July 31 st and august 7th. This date should seem familiar to a few. Lollapalooza took place between these dates. I was in Florida at the time and my soon to be girlfriend at the time was in Chicago (we so happen to have the flight dates at the same departure and arrival times and dates). We were not dating but I was head over heels for her, and she like me a lot too (so she said). Long story short, she cheated on me at lollapalooza telling me we werent dating (excuses excuses). I thought I would just get over it and stop talking to her, but she came back to me and after that horrific incident we began to date (for real this time). It is probably one of the worst ways to start a relationship but now Ive never been happier. To make the poem as clich as possible, anot particular rhyme scheme was not implemented. The first two stanzas have four lines in them because my girlfriend and I have our birthdays on the fourth of a month. The final stanza contains twelve lines because on the bracelet there is a peace symbol that has a total of twelve lines off to the side of it. The first stanza speaks of my girl friend and how she compares to the bracelet. The opening line is a quote from the rhetorical analysis paper comparing the skin tone of both my girl friend and the bracelet. Stating that she is the life of the party states both the giant party known as Lollapalooza and how she like to party. The wooden plate (from the bracelet) is slowly detaching itself, is a clear allusion to the original genre (introduction paragraph) stating that the wooden plate was the most unique part of the bracelet, (hence Tammyher). If she cheated on me she would be just like any other girl. The wooden plate on the bracelet is barley attached to the bracelet implying that she is almost lost to society. The last

Garcia 5 sentence in the first stanza is making a direct connection between the bracelet and Tammy. A wooden plate by its self doesnt make it beautiful, but it is everything around it as well. The word around was used because it describes the circular nature of the bracelet. I liked Tammy for more than one reason understating how much I care about her. The next stanza speaks of my thoughts and myself during the time because the action is always executed first and later comes the repercussions.. Cognitive dissonances is the contradiction of two thoughts which occurreoccursd on multiple occasions at this time frame, but it only felt right because I was always under the influence at this time as well. The physical feeling of the bracelet is relatively smooth but saying that iit ists rough implies that life at that time was having ups and downs struggling between what is fair and what I want to do (rationality verses irrationality). Stating that it was smooth also implied that the decision should have been an easy one. I am hanging by strings is an old saying my parents used to say meaning, you are being manipulated or you are barely hanging in there. Therefore both terminologies were used in this case. Men should never use theirhis feelings to influence a decision, but at the same time the feeling keeps a man down. I was Bbeing manipulated by my love for this girl, when I knew my decision should be fair and just. Love is not fair. The bracelet is also connected at the end by white strings holding it all together. The strings are intertwined in such a way that even the strongest men cannot pull it apart. I made this allusion so that the reader will predict that I will not break and ultimately I would make a fair decision. The final stanza is made to illustrate peace after a war in reference to the drawing of the ying yang on the bracelet. You can see the cognitive dissonance reoccurring when I try to justify my actions of being her boy friend saying, everybody is like this. Stating that everyone is like

Garcia 6 this, also meant that every bracelet/relationship is the same. Many references back to the original paper, for example: a social thing, hand, white, and around. The social thing and pop culture were examples of our relationship being out spoken by our friends. The world began to know what happened between us. This stanza explains my decision with the conditions that were made; some diction more obvious than others. I ended up dating Tammy after this incident thinking that I was doing what made me happy. Our relationship was almost like a war amongst rival countries. There was so much arguing that in the end we now a couple. When I look back I laugh at this decision because it was everything but rational. The most noticeable part of the poem is how life is spelled wrong. This was done to shown that it was our life. Life as a word could be what we wanted it to be. We make our own decisions. Pursuing this further, there are not many disadvantages to writing a poem besides the ambiguity to the reader. The audience would have no idea what I was writing about unless they read my rhetorical analysis first and knew a little bit about my life. The benefits of writing a poem out weighed the disadvantages. A poem is always up to interpretation. This is what I needed to do in order to be satisfied with the text I choose. Writing a poem helped me put more emotion into my writing and let it be obvious that there is a hidden message behind every word. A poem was a perfect escape form the rejection of my writing. Maybe it is not as concise as the first paper but there is a meaning for that as well. It was an example of my cognitive dissonance at the time. There is a meaning for everything I write, but it is the genre in which I write it in that gives it meaning to others.
