THE SMITHS

Missionaries to Orphanage Emmanuel in Guaimaca, Honduras NOVEMBER / DECEMBER 2011

Special Challenges
God is always stretching us with new challenges that bring us closer to him. If we allow him to strengthen us, we will rise to meet the trial. If we resort to our own strength or alternative methods, we will surely fail and fall away from his provision. God-given challenges can only be met with Godgiven strength. Such strength will be needed by the Emmanuel staff members who not only will be taking care of 94 more children, but many of these children have special mental and/or physical needs. This is coupled with an overall reduction of staff members compared with last year. Please pray that we the staff would rise to meet the challenges with God-given strength, love, patience, and wisdom.

94this month
new children
After sitting around the 480 child marker for some time, we are happy to welcome the latest group of children God has brought our way. First 10, then 53, then 3, then 28 more for a total of 94 in 14 days. These kids represent a wide age spectrum and include both boys and girls. Many come with severe mental handicaps. But all will have the opportunity to grow up in a loving Christian environment. Most children come from government centers where they were severely malnourished, neglected, and mistreated. Some were conned to a room or tied to a crib. Many received only one meal a day. Sadly, the corruption rampant in Honduran government is present in the child services sector as well. While we may not always have a pillow for every kid or even pants that t right, at Emmanuel they are never without three meals a day, a roof over their head, and plenty of open spaces to run around in. They are provided with advanced education, valuable skills, and a healthy work ethic. Most importantly, they can learn about Gods love and his plan for them. We have asked you to pray for the ability to accept more children, and God is answering! We know that if he brings them, he is trusting us to rely on Him for guidance in supporting and teaching them. We also know he will continue to provide for their every need. In related news, currently under construction are two new houses scheduled for completion in early 2012. One will be a twin house for the toddlers in order to separate toddlers from babies. The other will be for small boys that are promoted from the toddler house. Both projects will help provide a better environment for raising these additional kids.

The Shoe Team

Thats how the kids remember Soles4Souls the shoe team los de los zapatos. They returned to pass out shoes to nearly 500 children at Emmanuel and also distributed in town to poorer areas. Many thanks to Soles4Souls for meeting a great need!
