THIS WEEKS COMMENT

Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped of the evidence of things not seen.. Rev. Evan Hopkins used to teach of three positions: struggling, clinging and resting. He used an illustration of a shipwreck, when people are thrown into the sea. In the struggling position they are in the water, fighting with the waves and are in need of help themselves. In the clinging position they are clinging onto the side of the boat; they are quite safe themselves, but cannot help anyone else, because both hands are occupied. In the resting position they are sitting on the boat with both hands free to help others. The place of deliverance was always when they got to the resting faith. (Reese Howells Intercessor pg 62) When a problem comes our way, mostly our first reaction is panic; what am I going to do now? We find ourselves thrashing around in the water, in the struggling position, calling out to others for help. Very often, either before or during the crisis the Lord will give us something to hang onto. It may be a scripture, something someone has said, a quiet word in your heart. We need to hang onto it until we get the victory over the problem. That is our faith in action, our substance to hang onto our assurance that the Lord will come through for us. As He says in Isaiah 46:3 & 4 you whom I have upheld since you were conceived and have carried since your birth. Even to your old age and gray hairs I am He who will sustain you and I will rescue you. If we say we have faith and have a good job, good health, good situations in life then how can we know we have faith? Faith is only put into action when we

dont have the means to provide the answer to our problem ourselves. James 2:26 faith without works is dead. It takes a step of faith to believe the Lord will provide. If we believe that Jesus died for our sins and the Lord is who He says He is then we have already taken the greatest leap of faith we will ever have to take. So believe in Gods provision in time of need. He shows us He is faithful; let us show our gratitude and thankfulness for all He has done for us by being faithful to Him.
