BHARATIYA CHHATRA SANSAD (INDIAN STUDENT PARLIAMENT)

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS 1. What is Bharatiya Chhatra Sansad? A. A unique concept, first of its kind initiative which was never thought of before has now been unfolded as Bharatiya Chhatra Sansad. With a single minded devotion of channelizing the power of youth, the 'India Student Parliament', is a breeding ground for the young, enthusiastic and bright minds committed to lead the society, to effect political changes and to strengthen the democracy. 2. Who initiated the Bharatiya Chhatra Sansad? A. The Bharatiya Chhatra Sansad was conceptualized & initiated by Shri. Rahul V. Karad, Chief Initiator & Dean of MIT School of Government, Executive Director of MAEERs MIT Group of Institutions, Pune. The 1st Indian Student Parliament was organized at MAEERs MIT Campus, Pune from Jan12-14, 2011 in association with Ministry of Higher & Technical Education, Government of Maharashtra. 3. What are the activities under Bharatiya Chhatra Sansad? A. It organizes a three day summit for the youth mainly students from colleges in the month of Jan each year. Various eminent personalities come and share their views along with the youth from the same dais on issues related to youth. 4. When and where will be the next Bharatiya Chhatra Sansad organized? A. The 2nd Indian Student Parliament will be organized at MAEERs MIT campus, Pune from January 10-12, 2012 in association with Ministry of Higher & Technical Education, Government of Maharashtra and Ministry of Youth & Sports, Government of Maharashtra. 5. Kindly provide me more information about the 3-day event? A. The 2nd Bharatiya Chhatra Sansad (Indian Student Parliament) will comprise of 9 Sessions in a span of 3 days. The participants will be given an opportunity to interact and speak their mind on the dais with prominent personalities from Politics, Spiritual, Environment, Media, Social movement, Entertainment and Sports World. At the end of each session, the issue under discussion will be open for voting by the participants. This will culminate into drafting of resolutions on all of these. These set of resolutions will be presented to the government of Maharashtra and other national & international organizations.

6. How can I participate in the program? A. There are two categories for participation in the program i) STUDENT LEADERS: Any student who is socially motivated or preferably holding position of leadership in any college affiliated to any Indian recognized university can register for the event. ii) OTHERS: Candidates who are either not regular students of an Affiliate College or entrepreneurs or working in any organization. The registration forms for both the categories have been uploaded on the website. To register you have to download the registration form from the website (www.indianstudentparliament.com) or request one from the Chhatra Sansad office. Alternatively you may fill it online on the website also. You need to attach one photograph on the form or alternatively upload on the website. A nominated student has to endorse his/her registration form from the college principal, others may courier it directly along with the demand raft of appropriate amount as applicable (refer Q.7) to our corresponding address. On receiving the form we will scrutinize and if all things are in order you will be issued an I-card for participation. Other things you will have to collect from the registration counter at the venue before the start of the event. 7. What is the registration fee for participation in Chhatra Sansad? A. Registrations are on first cum first serve basis, subject to availability of seats. For STUDENT LEADER the registration fee on or before 30th November, 2011 is Rs. 800/-; with Late Fee on or after 1st December, 2011 is Rs. 1000/-. For OTHERS the registration fee on or before 30th November, 2011 is Rs. 1500/-; with Late Fee on or after 1st December, 2011 is Rs. 2000/-.

The fee has to be paid via Demand Draft duly drawn in favor of Parliament of Indian Student Council payable at Pune. 8. What all things are included in the registration fee? A. The registration fee includes participation fee for the 3 days; a participation kit (I-card, Bag, T-shirt, Note Pad, Pen, Books etc.); Snack coupons for day 1, 2 & 3; Lunch coupons for day 2 & 3 and a Participation Certificate at the end of the 3-day event (all sessions have to be attended). 9. What is the process of selection of Student Leaders who will speak in these NINE sessions? A. In each of the sessions, 2 student leaders from the participating delegates will speak on the said topic. These will be chosen after scrutinizing their reviews on the said topic either in audio or video format or as type written paper along with the filled in nomination forms by a selection committee. In all there will be 18 student leaders who will speak during these 9 sessions at the

summit. To participate in the above you are requested to send your opinion/views about the issue in an audio or video format in a CD (preferred) along with the registration form for the scrutiny by the selection panel. 12. How resolutions are passed in the Bharatiya Chhatra Sansad? A. During the three days (Jan10-12, 2012) there will be 9 topics that will be deliberated upon by the eminent speakers and 2 student representatives. It will be moderated upon by an eminent dignitary. After each such session the voting shall take place. The concerned resolution as per the topic deliberated will be displayed on the LED screens at the venue. The resolution will be displayed both in English and Marathi. Final voting will be done through SMS at the venue. The voting will determine the final resolution. Each participant has to vote via SMS as per the options on a specific number. Once recorded, the percentage of votes for and against the resolution will be displayed on the screen and the same shall be recorded by a committee which shall prepare a detailed report about all the resolutions passed after each of the 9 sessions. 13. When is the last date to apply for registration? A. The last date to accept registration form with concessional fee is 30th November, 2011. A late fee will be applicable (refer Q.7) on or after 1st December, 2011for registrations. Apply now to avoid last minute inconvenience to you and the management. Admission is strictly on first come first serve basis, subject to availability of seats. 14. Important Things TO NOTE
A. Things to remember: a. The registration fee for student leader is Rs. 800/- and for others is Rs. 1500/per person. The fee has to be paid via Demand Draft duly drawn in favor of Parliament of Indian Student Council payable at Pune on or before 30th November, 2011 or else late fee will be applicable (refer Q.7). b. Lunch coupons would be given to participants along with the Identity Cards after registration.

c. The lunch would be served against coupons in dining hall counters. Participants are to consume lunch in the dining halls only. d. During breaks, participants may purchase snacks, cold drinks, etc. Snacks will be served complementary during scheduled tea breaks. e. Eatables are not allowed in the pendal where event will take place. Participants may carry bottles but empty bottles to be taken away by the participants. f. Kindly note that smoking, chewing tobacco, consumption of alcohol and nonvegetarian food is strictly prohibited on the MIT Campus. You are requested to oblige us by adhering to our customs and values during your visit to participate in the summit. We sincerely thank you for your cooperation. g. The Participant ID card has to be worn / displayed all the time at the Venue (MIT Campus) during the sessions, while visiting the MIT institutes for identification & security purposes. Entry to the venue (MIT Campus) is strictly on checking the I Card. h. I-Card is non-transferable and is to be used only by the authorized participant. i. Participants will have to make their own boarding and lodging arrangements at Pune. However, we will provide assistance to find a suitable accommodation in Pune against payment by the participant. This would be on first cum and availability basis. j. The MIT Campus is accessible by local municipal buses, auto & taxis from all corners of the city including its railway stations & state transport bus stands. It is also well connected to most of the cities & towns of Maharashtra and by Air to prominent cities & metros of India. k. Attendance & participation in all the sessions is necessary for receiving the certificate. l. Participants are expected not to loiter outside the pendal before and after the break while the sessions are in progress. m. You are requested to carry your mobile phone so that it can be used for active voting during each session and you can play an important role in shaping of these resolutions. During the sessions in the Parliament the mobile phones are to be strictly on silent mode or switched off. Punctuality: As per the time schedule you have to be seated at the designated place in the parliament at least 30 minutes prior to the start of the first session and 10 minutes prior to the start of the consecutive sessions. If you are new to the place, you are requested to report an hour early at the venue for the said Parliament.

Dress: Each participant is expected to wear ethnic Indian clothes or any decent dress befitting to the occasion.

15. How many seats are available for the 2nd Indian Student Parliament? A. There are 10000 seats available for the 2nd Indian Student Parliament. Registrations are open. Apply now. 16. Is there any reservation in seats available for 2nd Indian Student Parliament?

A. All seats are open to registration on first cum first serve basis. There is no reservation what so ever of any kind. To avoid inconvenience apply now. 17.
