PLEDGES I pledge to become a Teacher Librarian who will strive to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information. I will pursue personal growth in the following aspects of this position: I will increase my proficiency as an information specialist by: o Making my personal learning a priority. o By familiarizing myself with our current sources of information within our library and on our online databases. o By discovering new sources of information online and in the new sources that we purchase for the library. I will increase my effectiveness as an instructional partner by: o Making myself available as much as my teaching schedule dictates. o And when I am not available, I am committed to providing other library aides and volunteers who will assist that teacher with their instruction.

I will increase my interpersonal skills to promote my accessibility as a collaborative teacher by: o Advocating for the library whenever possible, and to as many audiences as possible. o Being as open and transparent as possible about the library budget, the acquisition of materials, the services offered, and other library events. I will increase my effectiveness as an advocate of the library media program by: o Encouraging others to advocate for the library. o Advocating for the library through multiple avenues. I will increase my capabilities in managing paid and volunteer personnel in the library media program by: o Asking for the assistance of others who know more than myself. o Taking on an attitude of a learner, rather than a boss. I will increase my effectiveness in budget management by: o Giving responsibility for managing the budget to someone more qualified than myself and asking for monthly updates from that individual. o Carefully considering a variety of suppliers before making purchases. I will continue my personal professional growth by: o Reading professional journals and magazines. o Seeking out professional development opportunities.

PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATIONS As a school, we belong to EARCOS (East Asia Regional Council of Schools). I have benefited incredibly from the amazing professional development that has been offered within this association. There are opportunities to lead during the annual Teachers Conference by presenting or by leading a job-a-like session. Im giving some thought to this but it is not likely to happen this year. Others professional associations that I am contemplating joining: ALA/AASL - $53/year as a student. International Association of School Librarians - $10/year as a student. Listservs, online organizations, etc. Schools International Library Cooperative-Asia An EARCOS-affiliated listserv for school librarian (membership pending). LM_Net Havent spent enough time on this for it to fully realize the helpfulness. Teacher-Librarian Ning While I would like to be an asset to my profession outside of my own personal sphere, right now I dont know what that will look like in the future. And it will be at some point in the future and not at this time.
