It isn't Iun being alone you know, especially not in any society that values socializing over all

else. But you get used to it, much like how a man with maimed legs may panic and be in agony
at Iirst, but eventually accepts his situation as part oI his liIe. And that's exactly what being a
loner is: a disability. Will it kill you? No. Will it stop you Irom being a valuable member oI
society? No. Will you still be happy? Perhaps. Will it severely hamper your ability to achieve
success and be somebody in your liIe? Yes.



Why? Let's look at all the things you are missing out or severely crippled by not having Iriends.

Supposedly Required Social "Needs"
1. Care
2. Intimacy
3. Validation
I never gave a sh*t about these. My attitude towards these things was Iull oI contempt and scorn,
and later I began to direct these Ieelings towards the people who practiced them, which was
basically everybody. Who needs them? Don't be weak; be selI-suIIicient. Forget other people. I
realize now that there is a certain reason Ior why people require these Irom other people. I cannot
explain it.

The Others:
4. Assistance
. $ecurity
6. Vicariousness
7. And oI course the most important.....Transcendance.
EIIiciency is the name oI the game here. Whatever you can do by yourselI Ior yourselI, others
can do Iaster and better by working together Ior each oI themselves. A lot Iaster and better,
depending on the size oI the group. You have to solve a very diIIicult calculus problem that isn't
important but you don't want to skip. You .4:/spend hours oI valuable study time trying to Iind
the answer. Or you could ask someone Ior help. You are in a new neighborhood. You .4:/try
to get to know the area all by yourselI and experience anxiety and possibly paranoia Irom being
in an unIamiliar place and being taken advantage oI. Or you could make Iriends and reduce these
Ieelings. The need Ior vicariousness Irom relationships with people has been diminished due the
advent oI realistic reproduction oI video and audio, plus there is the internet. Still important
however. Transcendance is the development oI written language. The establishment and
enIorcement oI written laws and ethics . The construction oI marvelous buildings such as the
Great Wall and the Pyramids. The creation oI calculus. The experiment oI democracy. The
discovery oI antibiotics. The invention oI TV and computers. Transcendance is any Iathomable
human achievement that has or will surpassed/surpass the limits oI its time. And guess what?
None oI it was ever developed solely through the work oI a single person.


Somewhere along the way, I had a revelation. I became tired. Tired oI the extreme anxiety I
experienced in social situations. Tired oI being a burden on my Iamily, who expected a lot Irom
me. Tired oI the no-Iuture mundane liIe I was leading. My conscience, due to accumulation oI
knowledge and experience I've acquired, was killing me. You'd be surprised at just how
knowledgeable you can become when you have nobody but a computer and internet plus the
occasional book Ior company. And knowledge is power. I didn't just Ieel, I knew to the last step
oI logic and reason why being without Iriends was "bad." To sum it up, it simply isn't eIIicient to
be without people.
