Mrs Maloney (to a mirror): Hullo, Sam I want some potatoes please, Sam.

Yes, and I think a can of peas. (She rehearses several times, each of which becomes more natural looking, before running downstairs, grabbing her coat, walking out the front door, down the garden and to the grocery shop.) Mrs Maloney: Hullo, Sam. Sam: Why good evening, Mrs Maloney. How are you? Mrs Maloney: I want some potatoes please, Sam. Yes, and I think a can of peas. (Sam turns around and grabs a can of peas from a shelf behind him) Mrs Maloney: Patricks decided hes tired and doesnt want to eat out tonight. We usually go out Thursdays, you know, and now hes caught me without any vegetables in the house. Sam: Then how about meat, Mrs Maloney? Mrs Maloney: No, Ive got meat, thanks. Ive got a nice leg of lamb, from the freezer. Sam: Oh. Mrs Maloney: I dont much like cooking it frozen, Sam but Im taking a chance on it this time. You think itll be alright? Sam: Personally, I dont think it makes any difference. You want these Idaho potatoes? Mrs Maloney: Oh yes, thatll be fine. Two of those. Sam: Anything else? (Sam turns his head on one side, looking at her pleasantly) Sam: How about afterwards? What are you going to give him for afterwards? Mrs Maloney: Well, what do you suggest, Sam? (Sam looks around the shop) Sam: How about a nice big slice of cheesecake? I know he likes that Mrs Maloney: Perfect. He loves it. (Sam wraps up her food and hands it to her. Mrs Maloney pays him) Mrs Maloney: Thank you, Sam. Good night
