From standard English to washing clothes, our literacies range and vary due to

our experiences and sponsors.

Maybe for your introduction you could talk about how each domain contains different sponsors since you tie your sponsors into your paper a lot as examples. you explained all this really well!

My most obvious literacy is the reading and writing that I learned in institutions. I

have always gone to private schools which emphasize these two aspects. I became especially aware of writing in high school when taking two AP English classes. We wrote multiple essays a week and most of the time only had 45 minutes to complete them. My teachers stressed rhetoric and the repeated process of analyzing papers affected me today so that I cannot read and not point out the devices used in my hear. My sponsors became my teachers and my peers. My teachers would give us guidelines of how we were supposed to write something, yet with the collaboration of my thoughts and my peers critiques the paper became good and my English literacy became better. The material that I learned in my English classes played an important role in other aspects of my institutional life, including being able to read textbooks, take notes, writing down homework. Certain skills of society were learned such as understanding important symbols such as restroom and being able to read the bulletins lled with important

events. Not only did school develop my intellectual skills, but also my social skills. Being so closely knit with your peers at a small school, one picks up on certain individuals mannerisms which can become a kind of silent language.

this is a good way to describe the closeness with your peers. maybe you could include an example here of the language.

At home, my sponsors were my dad and brother, Thomas. They are both very

intelligent, do it yourself individuals. From an early age, my father taught me how to cook and it has developed since especially this summer when I was getting ready to live on my own. He also taught me about banking which also becomes helpful when doing

thing such as checking your bank account. My dad as a sponsor taught very unconditionally and he gained the satisfaction of knowing that I would be alright living on my own. Thomas also developed my literacy by being a good example such as writing down a to-do list and watching television programs that enhance your knowledge. Through repeatedly doing each of these activities I became literate, in my own individual sense, enough to survive by modern American standards. ! My communication skills in the community have greatly been inuenced by my

friends. They taught me how to text, send invitations, sign my name, and write down social events. Social literacy can only be developed in a social setting. Like trying to become a doctor. One must practice and have the experience of surgery, he cannot just
this is a really good example for backing up your statement about social literacy

read a book and be considered a surgeon. Unfortunately, Brandt was right about how new literacies overturn the old. Social networking has greatly impacted my generations social literacy. Some will bode it is for the worse, some for the better; Im in between. My texting literacy developed differently from others because of experience. I have had bad experiences with texting because the concept of emotion becomes inexistent. It is

YEAH! excellent point, i completely agree!

completely dependent on which side of parenthesis you choose in your smiley/frowny face, hence if you dont use grammatical faces your words can be taken any way the person sees them. ! My work ethic was sponsored by my mother and grandfather. My mom has

I would elaborate on this on little. How do act like a boss? Do you take on a lot of leadership roles?

always acted like a boss and now I do. It shows that literacy can always be affected by genetics and by simply watching someone elses literacy. I became literate in business investment particularly because whenever I was around my grandfather he would bring it up and simply by becoming immersed in a subject you can slowly start to become

literate in it. Of course, Scriber was right though when she emphasizes the fact that one
consider putting a quote here.. for people (like me) who never actually read that not sure what you mean here. i would try to reword this and make it a little clearer. this is really good. i like that its an original idea, not one that you heard from somewhere else.

has to be experienced in the matter to be considered literate. I also believe one must be able to teach the subject in order to be considered literate in it, therefore I may only be slight investment literate. However, it shows how a yearning for literacy may be sparked by one sponsor and carried out by another. ! Due to my immersion in institution, community, workplace, and home, I have

become fairly literate, in my own terms, in the ways to survive each situation. Whether texting my friend while cooking popcorn or studying investment to help in my business class I feel my sponsors so far have prepared me for certain literacies, yet not fully taught me any specic subject - if they had, why would I be in college?
Good point :)

*Good job, Yoder! Obviously work on your introduction, but you had a good conclusion I thought. You had good examples, also, for backing up what you said. Theres just a couple of places i would elaborate a little more. And one suggestion I have is to maybe nd better ways to transition between paragraphs, so it doesnt seem like youre jumping from one domain to another. And I like how you included a lot about sponsors.
