Vision
School education takes place in a situation where:
Children learn to enjoy mathematics. Children learn important mathematics. Mathematics is a part of childrens life experience which they talk about. Children pose and solve meaningful problems. Children use abstractions to perceive relationships and structures. Children understand the basic structure of mathematics. Teachers expect to engage every child in class.

Recommendations
Shifting the focus from achieving "narrow goals" to "higher goals". Engaging every student with a sense of success, while at the same time offering conceptual challenges to the emerging mathematician. Changing modes of assessment to examine students mathematization abilities, rather than procedural knowledge. Enriching teachers with a variety of mathematical resources.

Why Technology / ICT?

What technology promises
Technology can help expand access to education:
Distance learning. e-learning. virtual class rooms.

Technology can help transform the learning environment to learner centered. Technology can provide valuable tool that can empower mathematics students as well as mathematics instructors:
Tools for visualizations/ illustrations Tools to do tedious computations in less time Tools to recognize pattern in a problem Tools to develop problem solving skills Tools for live feedback and interaction in the class room.

How technology / ICT in education

Caution / Suggestions
Learning does not take place in the technology. Learning takes place in the interaction between motivated faculty and motivated students. Whenever possible, technology can be used to provide such environments. Tools for live feedback and interaction in the class room.

Technology / ICT in school education

Caution / Suggestions Introducing ICT simply for ICTs sake will be of no use. It is essential to keep in mind that ICT use in schools will accomplish very little if not integrated within a toolbox full of:
Supporting educational content. Ongoing teacher training and support. A context that nurtures evolving teaching and learning styles.

Technology for interaction

Classroom Presenter

"Classroom Presenter" is a Tablet PC-based interaction system that supports the sharing of digital ink on slides between instructors and students. When used as a presentation tool, Classroom Presenter allows the integration of digital ink and electronical slides, making it possible to combine the advantages of whiteboard style and slide based presentation.

The ability to link the instructor and student devices, and to send information back and forth provides a mechanism for introducing active learning into the classroom and creates additional feedback channels.
