This document specifies the transport model as available on the Online Marine Engineering website at the following URL's www.transportanalysis.com www.OnlineMarineEngineering.com

Example Transport Model

The transport model can be used to determine if a vessel is suitable to transport a given cargo. The analysis includes general floatation condition, stability and motion response analysis. To run the analysis the user should define the vessel, the cargo, and the environment and should select the type of analysis required. Based on this data the analysis will run on our server and the results will be sent back to the user right after the analysis is finished.

The following three reports are available: 1) Summary Report This report will present the general floating condition of the vessel and will report static stability properties of the floating vessel. 2) Full Stability Report The report of this analysis will include the full stability curve and an intact and damaged stability check according Noble Denton. Also the barge longitudinal loading will be reported and a bollard pull assessment will be performed with an estimate of the wave drift forces. 3) Extended Report This report will include the full stability report and the results of the dynamic analysis of the vessel for the specified seastate.

B. METHOD STATEMENT The transport model has been programmed in MOSES from UltraMarine. MOSES is a multipurpose marine and structural simulation computer program widely used for transport and installation design of offshore structures. See the ultramarine internet website for more information on MOSES, address is: http://www.ultramarine.com/

The vessel model is represented by a 3-D plate representation of the hull outer surface. Most models also include the inner ballast compartments as 3-D Plates. The cargo is modelled as spread masses in longitudinal direction as specified by the user. This will allow correct calculation of the longitudinal loading on the vessel. Also the volume of the cargo is indicated and used to determine wind drag loads on the model.

B.1 Static Analysis The static analysis will define a ballasted condition based on a pre-defined floating condition using the vessel hull model and the mass properties. To reduce motion response of the vessel, wing tanks will be flooded first if possible. After this analysis the found equilibrium condition will be reported together with various static properties of the floating condition. If a full stability analysis is selected, the stability range of the vessel will also be calculated and a rule check of the results will be done. This stability range is determined by setting the vessel at a range of fixed roll angles. For each roll angle, the program will iterate an equilibrium position for the other degrees of freedom and then compute the righting and wind heeling arms. This analysis will be repeated with one pre-defined compartment flooded to simulate a one compartment damaged condition. Finally both intact and damaged stability results are

checked against a set of pre-defined criteria based on some selected rules. The longitudinal bending moment and shear loads will be calculated and reported for stillwater and a predfiened hogging and sagging static wave. Finally the minimum required bollard pull will be estimated based on the vessel wind and current drag and an estimate of the wave drift forces.

B.2 Dynamic Analysis If motion analysis is selected, a frequency domain dynamic analysis will be performed using the vessel hull at the intact floating condition. The result of the analysis will be the motions and accelerations of the cargo centre of Gravity (CoG). These results can be used to estimate the seafastening requirements for the cargo. The analysis is done as follows: A 3-D diffraction analysis is done using the plate model of the vessel to determine the hydrodynamic properties. Roll damping properties are tuned based on a an in-house procedure Transfer function for each heading are generated Responses are calculated by multiplying the transfer functions with the wave spectrum for each heading and for 10 seastate mean periods Significant responses are calculated from the response spectra Maximum responses are calculated assuming a Rayleigh distribution of the maxima with an exposure period of 3 hours.

Finally the bollard pull analysis is performed more accurately using the wave drift data from the diffraction analysis.

OUTPUT OF ANALYSIS The transport analysis provides the following data and checks: 1. Summary of the Design Basis of the transport 2. Barge draft and ballast condition 3. Summary of all masses 4. Hydrostatic properties of barge 5. Guideline rule check of the intact stability 6. Guideline rule check of the one compartment damaged condition 7. Motions and acceleration at vessel CoG, Cargo CoG's and three additional Points of Interest
