fluidyn-VENTEX is a numerical tool modeling the explo sions by simultaneously solving the
fluid mechanics equations or by implementing semi-empirical methods.
fluidyn-VENTEX is mainly used by industries and consultancy firms involved in the design of constructions capable of resisting the risk of explosions and of suitable solutions to reduce such risks (vent dimensioning) .
It also helps to determine the threshold of lethal effects and irreversible effects associated to pressure wave fronts.
fluidyn-VENTEX automatically takes into account the reflection and absorption of waves
due to the presence of obstacles in the incident wave path.
fluidyn-VENTEX can calculate wall dimensioning in buildings with the help of its coupled
Fluid-Structure solver.

The user can simultaneously access the pre and post processor as well as the solver with the help of an interactive menu interface. fluidyn-VENTEX works on all platforms ranging from PC (Windows/Linux) to Unix workstations. PRE-PROCESSOR The user generates the geometry with the help of the graphical user interface. The software generates the mesh automatically by taking into account the different obstacles in the computational domain. The user then has to define the explosion source (solid, gas cloud) as well as the ignition points. POST-PROCESSOR The post processor offers a multi-viewport facility and allows the dynamic display of results during the simulation. The result variables are displayed on the faces, sections, profiles and presented under the form of vectors, iso-contours and iso- surfaces. In addition, an integrated result animation facility helps in the easy creation of images and video animations to visualise the results. SOLVER
fluidyn-VENTEX
is based on high-order schemes to solve fluid mechanics equations. It uses an explicit or semi-implicit temporal discretization. The pressure wave formation is calculated with the Jones-Wilkins-Lee theory (JWL) for solid explosions, or chemical kinetic models (Arrhenius, EDC) for gas clouds or dust clouds. Coupling with other atmospheric dispersion modelling tools in the fluidyn-VENTEX range can help in the evaluation of flammable clouds before explosion.
