SUBJECT INTRODUCTION
The project management as a subject is important from the point of view of students wanting to learn the project management fundamentals and the various techniques associated with it. Today project management is spread across geographical boundaries, thanks to the information technology and its support facilities. A project requires heavy investment and requires plenty of resources. Associated with every project there are inbuilt problems, uncertainties and risks. In this course students will learn about the project management fundamentals and the philosophies underlying every project. Student will be able to understand the various factors that influence a project and also learn about the various methods to organize, monitor, execute and control the projects. In the modern times, the organizations are facing change at an unprecedented extent. The traditional and strategic changes are successfully met by managing these changes as projects. Thus, project management has laid the strategic pathway for management of product, service and organizational process changes in contemporary organizations. The success of nontraditional teams in the management of changes is also due to the project approach. This book comprises of 15 units. Unit 1: Basics of Project Management This unit attempts to explain project management through a preview of globally recognised best practices. Project Planning and Processes This unit deals with the various techniques and methodologies of project planning.
