My Reflection on meeting this outcome: My first class in the Management series was Project Management Fundamentals. It provided me with the basic understanding of the importance of project management in the workplace. I was introduced to using a Balanced Scorecard to determine the success of my projects. This class also helped me to understand the importance of estimating project times and cost and their life cycles in the various stages. Financial Analysis and Management helped me to understand the difference between Accounting and Finance. Since this is not a strong skill set for me, the assignments helped me to understand calculating risk, budgeting and investment decisions. As a leader it will be very important to understand the ethical issues involved with financial investing. I gained confidence in my ability to effectively communicate financial information with my team and other co-workers. Organizational Leadership and Ethics introduced me to a series of articles and other readings from a variety of organizations about leadership and ethics. I was able to explore various theories and philosophies of how leadership and ethics intersect, and why it is important to have the awareness. Knowledge Based Leadership helped me to understand the value of strategic planning within an organization. Through the various Journal Abstracts I also gained a greater understanding and appreciation for the appropriate forms of governance, structure and controls within an organization. Leadership Styles and Theories helped me to understand and analyze leadership in multiple contexts and levels of analysis. Looking at the definitions and the processes, understanding the traits that leaders need and the power influences leaders have within an organization. My Future Learning Goals related to this outcome: The knowledge that I have gained and the information that I have been exposed to as it relates to this program have provided a solid foundation for me to be a better leader and manager. Throughout my coursework, I have been able to take the information that I learned and apply it in a practical way within my organization. Learning about the organization structures has helped me to be more effective as I work with various project committees. I can now chart out our timelines and attach cost to specific areas. I

understand the need for various types of contracts and how different laws can impact our involvement within the community. I am now challenged to take the leadership traits that I have learned and practice them apply them as I interact with others within our organization. If I am not able to paint a vision for my team then it will be difficult to motivate their involvement. I will continue to seek out other leadership and management opportunities to learn new skills and enhance my performance. As the advisor for one of the student organizations on campus, this program has motivated me to share this knowledge and techniques with our student leaders so they can be more effective in their leadership roles.
