Aimee C. Willis Implementation Plan (how will you use your Unit?

)
When writing your implementation plan, think about the following: Now that you have created your story (or are in the process of), how do you see it fitting into your instruction? I envision my digital story serving as a motivational aspect of the writing unit it has been designed to enhance that shows rather than tells the learners how using your senses will not only develop your writing by improving it through description, but also how it will engage readers and pique their interest. It will fit well within the instruction so that learners have the opportunity to see a completed work early on and reduce the intimidation that writing can often incite by proving to the learner that improving their writing is as simple and organic as calling on the experiences that their senses afford them. When or how will it be implemented? It will be implemented early in the course of instruction (the first day) after a group project has been completed to help learners brainstorm ideas about how your senses are an abundant source of description one always has at hand. Once the first phase of group work has been completed and an in depth class discussion allows for learner input and instructor assessment of comprehension, the digital story will be introduced to support and illustrate the learning objectives. It will be used as a tool to help bridge the gap from brainstorming about the senses and how they affect us to actually implementing them in writing and capitalizing on them. What do you need before it can be implemented resources; admin-, parent-, customer buyin, etc.? Specifically, what technology items will you need, how will you secure a meeting space, audience, etc. What are the obstacles you may face when implementing this unit? How will you overcome these? Fortunately, the resources I need to implement the digital story are not hard to obtain. A computer and cable to connect the computer to the class television so that I can access and broadcast the story to the learners are all that is needed in the way of technological items. The meeting space will be the classroom and the audience will be each of the 6 class rotations that meet for Language Arts daily in my classroom. Obstacles I may face in the implementation of this unit are learners hesitation and anxiety regarding any type of writing because they feel they are no good at it (this is a psychological obstacle). I plan to overcome this by using encouragement, quality resources, ample time and motivational/inspirational tools (this is where the digital story comes in) to guide learners to the conclusion that the tools they need to improve their writing lies within them and that writing is not some elusive/evasive talent. How will you differentiate for a diversity of student levels? Students requiring additional help and resources to complete the unit assignments will be provided a template that includes writing prompts to facilitate the completion of their journal entry assignment. Gifted students will provided the opportunity to lead group discussions and synthesize the first group assignment by recording the responses. They may also complete their own individual journal entry in addition to the groups work in the final project so as to have more creative control over the finished product. How will you evaluate the units success? This is not the assessments that we talked about in your unit plan, but how will YOU know that students are successful? What will they be able to do after completing your unit? Unit success evaluation will be a long term undertaking that will be ongoing once the unit is completed through the remaining school term. After completion of the unit, I hope to see learners implement what they learned by applying it in their writing henceforth. A successful unit will produce more description in the learners writings (regardless of topic), especially in the way of description that utilizes the senses, which l will encourage and continue to make reference to. How will you share the stories with your community? (parents, administrators, co-workers, customers, etc.) I will share my stories with my community (students, parents, staff) by making it/them available on youtube so that they can be viewed, borrowed and reused for any educational purpose or as an example of how to create a story to enhance a learning unit.
