C The context of the film is about a teacher of English Literature, Vivian Bearing, and her life story. During the film, Vivian was diagnosed of Stage IV Ovarian Cancer, and as she suffers through the side effects of the treatments such as fevers, chills, vomiting and other known effects. The story also shifts from the present, and periodically flashes back her life from her childhood, graduate school days, and her successful career, prior to her diagnosis. Later throughout the film, as she grows weaker and increasingly ill, she agrees to undergo more tests, even though she realized that the doctors, even her former student, sees her as a mere guinea pig, and the only person to care for her as a person, was a nurse on the staff. Later during the film, the only visitor that Vivian receives, was her former graduate school professor and mentor. As her storys end drew near, she started to regret her insensitivity and realized that she shouldve been kinder to more people. E My uncle died at the age of 41, due to cerebrovascular accident. It all started when he suddenly had a stroke and fell on their bathroom floor, and hit his head on the sink. We were still able to bring him to the hospital, and managed to get him treated, although he only lasted there for about 4 days. The doctor told us, that he wouldnt last long. My uncle regretted so many things, like leaving his family, and wished he could be with them some more. He shared with us his regrets, but told us to not be sad, because he was going to a better place, and Ive seen the nurses do actual palliative care. One nurse was even praying with us during one time, and another, when one nurse was talking with the family. Even after his death, one of the staff nurses went to my uncles wife and talked. R During the film, I have realized that people would really change if they knew their time limit is coming to an end. People would undergo the 5 stages of death, and would eventually give in. I have also realized, by watching Evelyn Ashford, Vivians nurse, a real nurse would really do her job, and would give his/her unconditional love for the patients, even if end drew near, because a nurses job does not end, even after death.

A I have learned something from the film, and as a student nurse, I shall follow Evelyns actions and take care of my patients whole hearted, because thats what nurses are for, to take care of the sick. I will also try to understand the demise the patients are going through, because I have also learned that death is something inevitable, and once it comes, it will come. E Overall, I think the film was good, and I think every health care professional should watch it. I have learned a lot from the film, and it made reminisce my past, and reflect on it, because I once blamed the doctors and nurses for the death of my uncle, and now, Ive realized that, as a human being, death is inevitable, and people are dying every day, and as health care practitioners and professionals, it is our duty to give the best care to dying patients.
