Well, meet me again Raja Nur Arinah Bt. Raja Ariff, your host for the hottest forum television show in Malaysia. So, how are you today? Hope that today is much brighter than day before. Without wasting our time, I would like to tell you our topic for today. Today, we will be discussing about a very serious and hot issue which is social illness among younger generation. I can see that most of the audience here are teenagers and of course the younger generation. Dont you feel excited to hear about this topic? I really hope so because this forum will educate you much about social illness. Our forum will not be complete without the presence of the great panelist that willingly to come here this afternoon and help us to know and discover deeply about this topic. Heres the panelist: 1) Mrs Nor Hafizah Bt Abdul Hadi- chairperson of PTA from Ideal Heights Secondary School 2) Miss Sharifah Maizura Kasmawati, a Student Representative Council from UPSI 3) Miss Siti Nor Amira Bt Ismail, our very special guest for today. 4) Prof Dr. Nor Sumayah Bt. Ismail, a counselor and motivater from UTM. Nowadays, social illness among teenagers become worst. Well, whose to blame?? What are the causes, effects, and what are the measures can be taken? These are all the issues that were going to discuss after this, of course with the help of the panelist. According to STAR, 2 /6/ 08, FOR only RM5, an adolescent gets to experience sex with his schoolmates. This was the shocking revelation recorded by counselors who organised a youth camp for problematic secondary school students in Selangor. The student said that, If I need sex, I only have to call or send her an SMS for an appointment. This is only one example of thousands cases reported about social illness among younger generation. There are a lot of proof to say that the social illness among younger generation is at a very critical point.

1) According to statistical value, the most cases reported about social problem such as sex and pregnancy out of wedlock, rape cases, prostitution and so on, we can see that most of the criminal involved are from teenagers and of course the younger generation. So Mrs. Fizah, can you tell us why this social illness affect mostly to younger generation? This is the best question that all of us should think over this matter again and again. From my observation, receiving all kind of complaining mostly from parents, there are many reasons why most of the social illness affect the younger generation compare to the other generation. One of the reasons is because these younger generation are easily influenced by something that they do not supposed to get involved in. Students normally easy to be influenced because sometimes they still cannot think wisely and rationally including on how to differentiate whether the things that they are going to do is benefits or not. Apart from that, our younger generation or mostly the students are easily involved in social illness because normally they prefer to follow or to take the challenge from their friends. In fact, from their perception thinking of mind, if they do not take the challenge make by their friends, they will be look down or will be calling like someone who is actually coward to take the challenge. So, in order to avoid all this sort of thing they have to take the challenge. In addition, these younger generation is easily being affected by social illness because of their attitude which is too eager to know or to explore and try something new in their life and as a simple example is smoking.

2) From what have been told from you just now, the younger generation is very easy to be influenced by the environment, because they dont have much experience in their life, thus they are not matured enough to think wisely. So, what are the factors that cause them to get involved in social illness? There are many factors that lead these younger generation to involved themselves in this matter. One of the factors is because they lack of love from their parents. Nowadays, parents are working and busy earning money until they do not realized that they have no

time to spend with their children and family. What they know is they already give enough money as well as what their childrens need. However, they do not noticed that love from them is more essential in building good family as well as good children. So, because of the lack of love from their parents that guided them to get involved in social cases and always spending their time hanging out with friends. Besides that, the peer pressure also playing an important role for the younger generation to get involved in social illness. It is proof that, most of the time of the student will be spending with friends rather than being with family since the family is busy and do not have time for them. So, this is why they always follow what are their friends going to do so they can feel much better and satisfy with their way of life since their parents did not really care about them. 3) Just now Mrs Fizah said that the main causes for social illness among teenagers are because of lack of parents love and peer pressure. Do you agree with that Miss Sharifah? I want to hear your opinion as a student and also as one of young generation, what do you think the factors that make youth to been involved in this kind of illness? Assalamualaikum and a very good afternoonn. First of all, thanks to Miss Arinah as the chairperson because gives me the opportunity to be one of the panels tonight. As a student I know how the feeling when there are something bad that can disturb their mind. I also have the experience when there is something like that cross to my mind. Something that asks me to do something that can leave bad effect to my life but when I think it twice, its better for me just to ignore that feeling. The question that Miss Arinah mention before is why the younger generation especially student involve in this kind of illness. Actually student will involve in this kind of illness when there are faced with difficult task of discovering themselves, clarifying their sexual roles, assenting independence, learning to cope with authority and searching for goals that would give lives meaning... Peer pressure is one of the most important reason why the younger involve in this kind of problems. What is peer pressure? Actually peer pressure is represent social

influences that effect teenagers, it can have either a positive or negative effect... The words that we are great influenced by the people around us is the suitable words for this reason but its depending on the persons social group and one can follow one path of the other.... For example, according to the lecturer from Faculty of Leadership and Management (FKP),Islamic Science University of Malaysia (USIM), Madam Marina Muneera Abdul Mutalib said that in this todays school ,social ill are very common, peer pressure is the reason for them. If the people in social group used drug for example, there will be pressure either in direct or indirect for them. When a person may be offered to try drug that is direct pressure but indirect pressure is when someone sees anyone around him using drug and he might think that there is nothing wrong with using drug...... The second reason why the student usually involve in this problem is their natural feeling. Natural feeling is the feeling that comes from their heart in the people in the range of age of 13 to 18 years old. In this kind of range, they have a strong feeling on how to feel free to make their own decision on how to survive their life while can do anything by themselves. Sometimes this feeling become more stronger in the younger that his life completely control by his parents before. But when he gets the opportunity to be free from been control, he will try to do something that he never do before like something that can make him release his stress. 4) All right, thank you for the brief explanation, but what will happen to them when they start to involve in this social problem? For sure, I know that it will give harmful effects. Can you give us some of the examples? Thanks again to Miss Arinah. The effects that can we see when someone involve in this illness are first their result getting worst. It is because he will never think about his future but the things that always in his mind is just to enjoy. Dreaming about something that out of his mind. So ,he just waste his time. There is no time for him to think seriously about his studies and future. This is why he gets worst result especially when he cant pay attention during the lesson when after the whole night he hangs on at the night club. His

interest in studies will slowly down until at one time that interest will appear it self immedietly. This problem will effect the younger by giving the pressure to their mentality and also will be ostracized by friends and community as the next effect of this kind of illness.

5) Heres come the time.. get ready everyone, for the time of truth. For your information, Miss Amira now is one of the worker at Damansara Welove Charity House and today, exclusively, she would like to share something valuable with youth outside there. All right, stay still right there. So Miss Amira, can you tell us the story? Heres the story from me, that Im sincerely want to share with all of you here, Frankly speaking, I came from a very rich family and It is hard to me and my sibling to see my parent at home unless if I stay wake late at night or wake up very early in the morning. My father is a very well- known and busy businessmen, while my mother is always busy with her societys schedule. Hmmmmm, I believe that they hang up more compared to the time they spent with their own child. You know, at the time, I and my sibling feels so neglected. Simply to say that, we have lot of money but lack of love. As a child, I need care and love from my parents. Moreover, with no one cares about me, I feel so stress with this situation. Since that day, I started to be so lazy, sometime I play truant, not do my homework and as the effect, Ive got worst result in my exam. But you know what? Even I got bad result, my parent still do not care about that, although the result together with notification letter. So they must attend to PTAs meeting. But how can they care about that, they dont even have time to read the letter. One day, few of my friend came to me and asked me..... why I look so sad, I always told and shared my problem with them. Since I met them, I felt that I found a new brighter with their friend or clients

life but it is actually the starting of destruction for my life. I started to involve in drug addict, became an alcoholic and others bad behavior. For once, Ive been caught drug positive and Ive been sent to charity department. There, I found my new bright life and became better day by day. I finally found a new life that make me stay calm until today and I hope I will better forever in the future. Please Pray for me okay..... thank you.. 6) I am so sorry to hear that. Do not worry Amira, we will always pray for your brightest future.. Just be strong okay? But I still wonder, what about the societys view for you? Did they treat you well? Thanks again about the question given. Peoples view on me was very pathetic. For them I just like a rubbish and I just like someone who is really censured for them. I also heard that they talk bad about me and they always bad mouthed me event I was standing in front of them. Can you Imagine how such I am at that time??? I already regret and repent for the faults that Ive done before but they still dont give me a chance to change. But Im thankful because my parent can accept me and care about me. I also thinks that what I did before is not my parent fault but it is my faults because my feeling control my action. I really hope, that teenager either at the outside there or inside here, that you must to think very deeply before you do something. So that, you wont suffer for days of future. That all what can I share with all of you here and I really hope that this story will teach moral values. Thanks for lending your ears to listen my story and thank you once again for inviting me.

7) Before we proceed, I would like to say congratulation to Miss Amira because she willingly come here, share the story with us, so that youth will take her story to teach them a lesson. Thanks Miss Amira. I can see that Prof Sumayah cannot wait for her turn. All right Prof, along this discussion, we have been talking about the causes, effects and the story related to the social illness. Right now, I want you to tell us, briefly of what measures can be taken to overcome social illness among the younger generation.... Assalamualaikum and good evening to everyone. Thank you to miss Arinah as a chairperson, the question is about how to overcome social illness among teenagers First of all, we look at drug addiction habit like Miss Mira had been experienced. So, how we can solve this bad behaviour? 1. What should parents do? Before that, I suppose to mention that the adolescent problems with alcohol and other drugs are occurring at an earlier age than ever before. Children today commonly have their first alcohol drinking experience at 12 years of age. As a result, each year, an estimated 4.6 million adolescents of 14 to 17 years of age have alcohol-related problems such as poor school performance, trouble with their parents or might be in criminal behavior . Thus, parents should play their role in order to make turning point in their childrens life. The essential for good communications between parent and child is a caring, warm, open relationship. Once parent choose to use communication way, they must force themselves to be realistic in any discussions you have, acknowledging that he or she will with no doubt be exposed to the temptation of drugs at some point or another. Do not preach but calmly talk over the best ways your son or daughter might refuse an offer of drugs, including alcohol. 2. Community.. Overcome busybody mindset The term busybody was said one of the scenes that immoral acts to flow. It is the common perception among Malaysians to not interfere with other peoples business as long as it does not involve them directly. Actually, we need person who being busybody in right condition as such find efforts to help younger generation from continuously doing

social problems. Why? Because they are kind of generation that will take the country up and forward. Here, I also going to highlight the method that have big potential to change teenagers. For the example, the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) can take action action by organized the seminar with quite number of objective: example is to educate younger generation both sociality and safety awareness mostly to female teenagers... to keep their virgin. 3. Education. Education plays an important part for a student to become a better and responsible individual. The Minister of Education, Tan Sri Muhayyidin Yasin said, children or the younger generation need proper education in order to become a better person, much like a seedling that needs enough care, water and sunlight in order to blossom into a flower. So how? In curriculum of our education system, teaching and learning moral subjects was introduced, this is because to emphasize the importance of balancing the spirituality, emotional, physically and mentality. Besides that, school is one of the main environments for socialization of young people, hence, early exposing about sex education are suitable to teach at the school. Healthy school program also had been seen one of the intelligent step. Through this program, hopefully, all the teenagers have awareness to keep their safety especially from free sex that might be the reasons to have pregnancy out of wedding. Thank you Dr. for your very good points. All right, without wasting our time, let me give you a brief conclusion throughout this discussion. Please bear in mind. The factors that lead to social illness are lack of loves, peer pressure, and natural feeling. Consequently, it will give you bad effects such as ignorance of your future, mental illness and more suffer, you will be isolated by your family and community. But, still there a lot of measures can be done to overcome this problem that need help from parents, community, and of course the education system in Malaysia. All right, thats all from us for now. Hope to see all of you again soon. Assalmualaikum
