1. what is difference between restricted and unrestricted agent. which are restricted agent in lotus.

Unrestricted agents can access the server file system. Restricted operations Lets users who have unrestricted rights specify whether the agent should run in restricted mode, unrestricted mode, or unrestricted with full administration rights mode. By default, the value is set to restricted mode because this is the safest setting. For users who have restricted rights, this option has no effect on the agent. You have the following choices from the drop-down list: - Do not allow restricted operations the agent is not allowed to perform restricted operations. Note that this is the most secure choice. The reason the agent cannot perform restricted operations is that the agent has rights that are restricted. - Allow restricted operations the agent can perform restricted operations because it is has been granted unrestricted rights. Note that this is a less secure choice than the previous one and grants the agent more power. - Allow restricted operations with full administration rights the agent can perform restricted operations and can do so with full administration rights. This choice grants even more power to the agent because the agent now has been granted unrestricted rights and given full administration rights. Use this choice with caution.

2. Time Matching Problem in Lotus Domino 7 I have One Domino Server on AIX Server. In the console Time is perfact showing but when the person sending the mail after open his mail file on server. It is going with wrong time (i mean to say it is going with 11 hour ago e.g now time is 9:00 AM and mail is going with 8:00 PM)can anybody help me.??? Issue is resolve. On the Consle time was correct. in Document Properties it was showing 11 hours gap. The Problem was on the OS Level. On AIX Server ...Object Verible time zone was incorrect. After set time zone Issue is resolved.
3. Lotus Notes NSF to HTTP Link This online documentation explains how to plan a web-based application hosted by Domino. Planning a traditional (Domino) web application However, If by "Open in http link" you mean that you want Lotus Notes to start and open to this application from an web browser, then you need to write a link to the application using the notes:// protocol. To easily get a notes:// protocol link to a Notes application, right click any document in the application and display the Document Properties, then choose the "+" tab. On the "+" tab, you will find a window displaying the document identifier, which includes the file unique ID, view ID and document ID. Copy the notes indentifier, then remove the document ID and

view ID. Use the remaining portion of the notes:// protocol link for the link in the web browser. When clicked, Lotus Notes will launch (if needed) and display the application. Comment: If the user does not have the application on their Notes workspace, use of the notes:// proptocol link to open it will work, but the application icon will not be added to their workspace. 4. can we set the priority for cluster server in lotus

You said "1. I closed Server A, the client tried to access Serevr A but on unavailability, shifted to Server B because it was the last server it accessed when a previous failover was performed." I might think about this a slightly different way and it may help see what is going on. Frequently, I have seen that when replication attempts point to a server that I did not expect, it is because the stacked icons point it to the unexpected server. The stacking order of icons reflects the relative order in which replicas were opened, I believe. While this doesn't help fix the issue, it might explain the behavior you are seeing. Something else to check is the cluster.ncf file that is in the Notes client Data directory. It may still have information pointing to Server B as a cluster member (even though it shouldn't). You should be able to remove the cluster.ncf file and it will be rebuilt with the appropriate cluster members (Servers A and C). Given all of that, I am not sure what the process is that a Notes client goes through when looking for a replica of it's mailfile. I would have thought that it would be: Home Server, Home Server Clustermate(s), Other Replica Server. If that is true, than your situation could well be explained by a confused cluster.ncf. My Infrastructure contains two Domino servers, Server A and Server B. Both servers are in cluster connected through a WAN Link. On my lotus notes clients, the users access there mails using a local replica of the mail file. The client replicates with the server every 5 minutes. The connectivity is done using connection documents on the clients. Both servers connection documents have normal priority. Server A is the Primary mail server of the users and all clients are configured so that the client replicates with Server A first, and if not found goes to the cluster server for replication. Now, I add another server in the scenario, Server C. Server A and Server C are on the same network. I break up the cluster between Server A and Server B, adn make new cluster group containing Server A and Server C. The connection Document for Server C has been added on each notes client with normal priority setting. All clients have been restarted so that cluster.ncf file is updated as well. The clients can access all three servers now. Now what should happen is that if I close Server A, the Notes clients should start replicating with the server whose in cluster group with Server A, namely Server C. But the clients are accessing Server B if they dont find Server A. I started

troubleshooting the issue and found that this is only happening in the case of local replicas. If I configure the client to access the mail fiel from the server instead of the local replica, its fail over scenario is as expected and it fails over to Server C if Server A is unavailable. And only if both Server A and Server C are down the client goes to Server B with a prompt. But in case of the local replica, in case Server A is down, it tries the server which was used in the last failover. It seems that in case of local replicas, while replicating the client doesnt read the cluster. ncf to find the cluster server. This was verified by the following tests I conducted: 1. I closed Server A, the client tried to access Serevr A but on unavailability, shifted to Server B because it was the last server it accessed when a previous failover was performed. 2. I also closed Server B. Now the client tried to access Server A, then Server B and on unavailability of both servers, shifted to Server C. 3. Now I started Server A and Server B again so that the client could go to its primary server. And after that I again closed down Server A. Now the Client shifted to Server C instead of Server B, because during the previous failover, it accessed server C. It didnt even try for Server B. I thought that now teh problem was solved and teh cilent wont access Server B again, if Server C was available. 4. Now I closed Server C as well. The client tried to replicate with Server A, then Server C and on not finding both, it shifted to Server B. 5. Finally, i started Server C in the hope that now If i tried to replicate again, the client would try Server A first, then Server C and since it was available now it will replicate with it. But unfortunately, it tried to access Server A and on its unavailability directly tried Server B instead of Server C. I think this shows that while using local replica scenario, on replication the client doesnt failover to the cluster member but instead goes for the server it last replicated to when Server A was not found. So, my question is, do you agree with my assessment? If no, what is wrong in my configuration? If yes, is there a workaround for this? My only requirement is that the notes client first try Server A, then Server C and if both are unavaiable, only then it should go to Server B

5. winmail.dat attachment in lotus notes I have two user on different server in single domain. both users getting single same mail from outer domain id. one is getting in correct format and one is getting wrong format

with attached file winmail.dat file. both are using same format in his location at local end. even i checked on server his mail file. it is also in worng format. can anybody tell me what i can see on my server. The problem may be on the sender's end of things. In the sender's address book, they can indicate what type of mail system the recipient uses. Ask them to check if the settings for these two recipients are different. If they are, ask them to make them both the same as the one that works correctly. Edit : The problem IS on the sender side. They use for one of the recipient the RTF format for attachment. The way to find where is different based on the version of Outlook. For isntance in outlook 2000 one must double-click the mail adress in the contact to get access to the format. Google winmail.dat and you'll find the (tons of) answer(s).
6. Transcation Logs in Lotus Domino Hi Guys , Today i come with query regarding transaction logging in lotus domino. Will you please tell me If i am transaction loggin once domino restart / system failure after run the recovery session fixup will run or not. and if i am using archive transaction logging and i have 100 GB for that then how many .txn file will be create on system and what will be size of that each txn file.

Normally, Domino 7 will run Fixup automatically when it restarts if you leave the default NOTES.INI settings: Run Fixup only as needed against selected databases to fix corrupted views and documents. For databases that are transaction logged, there should never be a reason to run Fixup (unless requested to by the Support Center) if the Translog_AutoFixup parameter in NOTES.INI is set to 1. This setting will cause Domino to automatically repair any databases with corruption issues. Individual .txn files will grow to a maximum of 64Mb each. See: http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg27003543 That means you will accumulate up to 1,600 .txn logs in your 100Mb allocated for logging.

Keep in mind, just like with SQL, the transaction logs will be merged into the main domino database files and disappear only when you run a FULL backup of the database. You can find a wonderful document for planning and managing your Domino 7 server here: http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/redpapers/pdfs/redp4182.pdf
7. How can we run fixup command on many database

Create a text file in the data directory listing the db names and save the file with a .IND extension. For example, SALES.NSF DEV.NSF SALES\USER1.NSF SALES\NEW Then Load fixup filename.ind The example above would fixup the following: DATA\SALES.NSF DATA\DEV.NSF DATA\SALES\USER1.NSF DATA\SALES\NEW\all databases You can't use the -T option with this method. 8. I want to set for some user message size more 5 MB and for rest of user message size less then 5 MB . Is it possible in domino... please help I want to set for some user message size more 5 MB and for rest of user message size less then 5 MB . Is it possible in domino... please help The below setting in the configuration doc but this is for all user not for some particular user or group. Router/SMTP--Restrictions&controls---restrictions Maximum message size: _____ KB Send all messages as low priority if the message size is between: Enabled ______ KB and the maximum message size.

You can know when the user login last by doing the following ... 1- Right-click the database (mailbox )of the user 2-click properties 3-click the ( i ) info tab . 4-click the " User Detail" button . Check over there you must see the users name over there

12.Domino 8 Quota Issue I have a few workstations that are domino 5 that i am migrating to a domino 8 server enviroment. The domino 5 mail files have thier templates updated and copied to the remote workstaions to provide a local mail file that only replicates mail changes at an interval. now my questin is that this all works fine untill i get an message about a quota on the local mail file when i didnt have one set. The servers copy of the mail file is fine and lets me send email with no issues, its just the local mail file that i copied onto the local pcs that is becoming annoying. Is it something to do with the template that they are updating to ? where is this function getting

1- Delete the mail Files located at the workstations 2- make a new replica from the Domino Servers to these worstations . 3- Check if still he has a problem .

13.Waht is NSD Red Alert error in Lotus Notes Can anyone give me complete knowledge about NSD Red alert error on lotus notes. Some time user his lotus

NDS log file: log files can help determine the cause of a server or workstation crash. A program called NSD (nsd.exe for W32 platforms, nsd.sh for UNIX platforms) creates these files in the IBM Lotus Domino data directory (for a server) or in the IBM Lotus Notes data directory (for a workstation). The files contain information about the tasks which were running when it crashed as well as general system information. For the user who is having a problem either you can uninstall lotus notes , delete the folder of LN then re-install it or do the following http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/domhelp/v8r0/index.jsp? topic=/com.ibm.help.domino.designer85.doc/DOC/H_TABLE_OF_NOTES_DESIGNER_ MASTER_TEMPLATES_OVER.html

14.Unable to locate Domino Directory through Offline Some time user can send the mail from home but he cannot locate domino server directory. with the same location document he can locate from the office. what can be cause there.
had the same type of problem trying to login from home to our development server. I verified that my development domain was listed under "Advanced TCP/IP Settings DNS tab" and also created a location document using IP address not the server name.

15.backend complete process of mail dilvery from Lotus Domino to Non-Domino Mail Client I wanted to know backend complete process of mail dilvery from Lotus Domino to NonDomino Mail Client. What kind of task will be run on that time.

16.Types of Lotus Server HOw many types of Lotus Server in Domino. e.g. Registration Server, Administration Server, Cluster Server, Application Server. I think there few more types of server are in Lotus Domino which I dont know. There are other things that Domino can do.... These are done by adding to the base Domino environment. This is so the products can utilise the robust and secure Domino infurstructure. These include IBM / Lotus Products: Sametime - Instant Messaging... and allot more. Quickr - Team rooms - webbased WIKI - Bloggs etc Connections - Joint Working - Corporate social networking DB2 and more Third party BES - Blackberry Enterprise Server SAP and more As you can see the Domino platform can be used for allot. It can also be used as a authentication server via LDAP for other prodcuts to unitlise the same security information. IBM are priding themselves in building a platform that can last and will intergrate with more and more product with every release. As per the discussion the things you have stated can all be part of the same Domino Server. Each servr can do it all. Performance permitting. Administration server - used to update the readers and authors field in the Domino Directory Replication server - used as a replication HUB for regional or inter corporate connections. Cluster Server - A Domino Server that is part of a Domino Cluster. Application Server - A server that has databases that use Domino to run AGENTS / Document Storage / etc Mail Only - Servers that do not have the full range of protocols and tasks that run under Domino SMTP Server - a Domino Server with SMTP Listernet turned on and a connection to the internet to route mail Directory Server - a Domino server used for Searching - ie Address lookups

Webserver - a Domino server that is running the HTTP Task Basically there are many uses for the platform. I hope this helps you to understand what Domino is rather than answer the question.
17.What is CA Process in Lotus Domino

CA" stands for Certification Authority and CA Process is an automated Domino server task used to process Ceritificate Requests and issue Certificates. 18.what is diff. between Mobile Directory & Directory Assistance

Directory assistance and Notes mail addressing

You can set up directory assistance on Notes users' mail servers or directory servers to enable the users to address mail easily to users in a directory that is not the Domino Directory for their Domino domain. To enable a directory to be used for Notes mail addressing, on the Basic tab of the Directory Assistance document for the directory, next to "Make this domain available to," select "Notes clients and Internet Authentication/Authorization.

Notes mail addressing using a Domino Directory or Extended Directory Catalog

To enable Notes users to address mail easily to Notes users registered in a secondary Domino Directory or to users that have entries aggregated into an Extended Directory Catalog, you can set up directory assistance for the directory on the users' mail servers or directory servers. Then, a Notes user can: Use the "Select Addresses" dialog to browse and select names from the directory, if the "Mail file location" field in the active Location document is set to "On server." Enter a name of a user or group from the directory and have type-ahead use directory assistance to find a matching name if the "Recipient name type-ahead" field in the user's active Location document is set to "Local then server." Press F9 to resolve the address of a user name from the directory; if the Notes user doesn't resolve the address, either the Notes client uses directory assistance to resolve the address when the user sends the mail or, if the client doesn't resolve the address, the Router uses directory assistance to resolve the address.

The Router also uses directory assistance when routing mail. For more information on Location documents, see Notes 6 Help. Note that if a Notes user uses a local Mobile Directory Catalog that aggregates secondary Domino Directories, name and address lookups of users in a secondary Domino Directory can occur locally on the client without the use of directory assistance. Note that type-ahead addressing never extends to a server on a Notes client set up to use a Mobile Directory Catalog. Note A server can always use a Domino directory in the directory assistance database for Notes mail addressing if the domain specified for the directory is the same domain as the primary domain for the

server; this is true regardless if you select "Make this domain available to: Notes clients and Internet Authentication/Authorization."

Notes mail addressing using a remote LDAP directory

To enable Notes users to address mail easily to users registered in a remote LDAP directory, you can set up directory assistance for the directory on the users' mail servers or directory servers. Then, a Notes user can press F9 to resolve an address for a name from the LDAP directory entered in an addressing field of a Notes message. If the user doesn't resolve the address, either the Notes client uses directory assistance to resolve the address when the user sends the mail or, if the client doesn't resolve the address, the Router uses directory assistance to resolve the address. A Notes client doesn't use type-ahead addressing to find names in a remote LDAP directory, and Notes users can't use the "Select Addresses" dialog box to browse and select names from a remote LDAP directory. LDAP accounts compared to directory assistance for Notes mail addressing using a remote LDAP directory A Notes client can use an LDAP account in the Personal Address Book to connect directly to a remote LDAP directory server, without using directory assistance. Using an LDAP account, a Notes user can search for addresses in a remote LDAP directory using LDAP-style search queries. Configure directory assistance to use a remote LDAP directory for Notes mail addressing, rather than use LDAP accounts if there are users with Notes Release 4 clients, since these clients don't support LDAP Accounts. You might also use directory assistance rather than LDAP Accounts to avoid having to maintain the LDAP Accounts, for example, if the remote LDAP directory configuration changes in some way. For more information on creating accounts in the Personal Address Book, see Notes 6 Help. Choosing a preferred mail format for Notes mail addressing using a remote LDAP directory If you set up directory assistance so that Notes users can address mail to users in a remote LDAP directory, use the "Preferred mail format" option on the LDAP tab of the Directory Assistance document for the LDAP directory to select the format of the mail address for Notes clients to use: Keep the default selection, "Internet Mail Address," to use the Internet mail format, for example, jdoe@acme.com, which is the format used in previous Notes/Domino releases. Select "Notes Mail Address" to use Notes-style addressing, for example, John Doe/Acme@Acme.

If you select "Notes Mail Address" user entries in the remote LDAP directory must have values for the mailDomain attribute. Typically the "Notes Mail Address" option is used only in some cases if the remote LDAP directory is a Domino Directory.

19.Adjacent and Non-Adjacent Domain Could you tell me anyone Adjacent and Non-Adjacent Domain works in within Single Domain with on different server or works on diff domains

Adjacent domain document Used to restrict mail flow Create an Adjacent domain document when you need to restrict the transfer of mail from one adjacent domain to another. The Adjacent domain document is one of the

documents you create to set up Notes routing when the servers are not in the same Notes named network. Create an Adjacent domain document only if you need to specify restrictions. This document applies restrictions to messages routing from the Notes network to the adjacent domain. To prevent your servers from being used to transfer mail between other domains, you can selectively allow and deny mail routing through your domain to the domain named in the Adjacent domain document. Using Adjacent domain documents to restrict mail By default, a domain that can route mail to your domain can also route mail through your domain to another adjacent domain. When mail routes from one domain to another through your domain, it ties up your resources. To prevent your servers from being used to transfer mail between other domains, you can selectively allow and deny mail routing through your domain to the domain named in the Adjacent domain document. The Allow and Deny fields on the Restrictions tab of the Adjacent domain document let you control the flow of messages from other domains to the adjacent domain. Entries in these fields must be the names of adjacent domains; the Router ignores entries for non-adjacent domains beyond the previous hop. If you deny a domain from sending mail through your domain, the Router denies all mail received from that domain, including messages the domain may have passed on from another, non-adjacent domain. There is no way to restrict specific users from routing to a Notes domain. Restrictions apply to all users in specified domain. The settings in the Allow and Deny fields work in conjunction with the Allow and Deny fields on the Router/SMTP - Restrictions and Controls - Restrictions tab of the Configuration Settings document. In the event of any conflict between settings, Domino applies the most restrictive entry. Messages may be further restricted by Adjacent Domain documents, Non-adjacent Domain documents, and Configuration Settings documents set up between domains along the routing path.

Non-adjacent domain document To Simplify mail delivery Create a Non-adjacent domain document to control message routing to a nonadjacent domain. Non-adjacent domain documents serve three functions: Specify a routing path to the non-adjacent domain by supplying next-hop domain information Restrict mail from other domains from routing to the non-adjacent domain Define the Calendar server used to enable free time lookups between two nonadjacent domains. For more information, see "Setting up scheduling" in the chapter "Setting Up Calendars and Scheduling." The Non-adjacent Domain document is used to specify a path between servers in two Notes domains that are connected by an adjacent domain. Create two Non-adjacent domain documents, one for each domain that is connecting to the intermediary domain. Using Non-Adjacent domain documents to restrict mail Using Non-adjacent domain documents to simplify addressing makes them valuable enough. But Non-adjacent domain documents play another equally significant role. Although they are not strictly required to enable routing between non-adjacent

domains, they are needed if you want to restrict routing of messages from certain domains. By default, any domains that can route mail to your domain can also route mail to the destination domains named in a Non-adjacent domain document. Mail routed from one domain to another through your domain consumes your network resources. To prevent your servers from being used to transfer mail between other domains, you can selectively allow and deny mail routing through your domain. The Allow and Deny fields on the Restrictions tab of the Non-adjacent domain document let you control the flow of messages from other domains to the nonadjacent domain. The "Deny mail from domains field" in a Non-adjacent domain document does not block messages that use explicit domain addressing, that is, addresses that explicitly name every domain on the routing path. A Non-adjacent domain document can only block mail that relies on information in the Non-adjacent domain document to supply the name of a a missing intermediate domain. If the entire routing path is contained in the recipient address, the Router doesn't need to check the document to determine where to route the message, and thus cannot block it. For example, if in the previous example, the administrator in domain B creates a a Non-adjacent domain document for domain D and adds domain A to the Deny mail from domains field. Kathy Burke in domain A can still send mail to Judy Kaplan in domain D by specifying the following explicit domain address: Judy Kaplan@D@C@B. To prevent Kathy Burke from sending this message, the administrator in Domain B would have to create an Adjacent domain document for domain C that names domain A in the Deny mail from domains field.

19.How to install Lotus Domino 7 on Ubuntu 8.10 I have installed ubuntu 8.10 on my system.Already i am having windows OS on the system.I have installed Ubuntu inside windows. Now i have copied Domino 7 from USB to desktop of ubuntu. Now if i am trying to install server or client then system is trying to archive it and after some time giving the following error... /////// [/media/sapienz/Clients/c84w1na.exe] End-of-central-directory signature not found. Either this file is not a zipfile, or it constitutes one disk of a multi-part archive. In the

latter case the central directory and zipfile comment will be found on the last disk(s) of this archive. note: /media/sapienz/Clients/c84w1na.exe may be a plain executable, not an archive zipinfo: cannot find zipfile directory in one of /media/sapienz/Clients/c84w1na.exe or /media/sapienz/Clients/c84w1na.exe.zip, and cannot find /media/sapienz/Clients/c84w1na.exe.ZIP, period.
First create a Domini user and group.... sudo useradd -m domino sudo groupadd domino sudo passwd domino Then install required libraries that related to domino installation. Now unpack the tar file. Go to the directory where u unpacked and change the ownership to the following files / dirs by using chown and chgrp command.... notesdata and ibm. Stop local firewall / may open 1352 in the local firewall. Also stop any mail, web, ldap services (If u have), it ensures that smooth installation of domino. Rest procedure is Here. The version on Ubuntu 8.05, but it helps the same

20.Do you know a good tool to migrate users + mailbox + personnal address book from Exchange to Domino? I do not know yet the Exchange version (maybe 5.5 or 2003) but the target will be Domino 7.0.1 in an existing domain of our company. There will be about 300-400 users. 21.unable to open the view mail - database curropt --- cannot allocate space While I was checking for any held messages on the mailbox, it promp't me this message. AdminP problem causing Lotus Domino 7.0.2 server to hang I keep receiving AdminP "abnormally terminated" errors on my Lotus Domino 7.0.2 server console

Well, unfortunately this could be a myriad of issues. First, have you gotten a NSD? There are tools to help read them, but opening a ticket with IBM and getting them the NSD to help troubleshoot is the first and quickest way to get to the bottom of this. Second, I'd need to know more about your environment, but if you have multiple servers, would it be possible to put a fresh replica of admin4.nsf on the server that is crashing? You need to figure out what adminP is trying to process when it dies. The ease of that depends on how much activity is in your admin4.nsf. If there are not many things being processed in AdminP, you might be able to pinpoint it easily. If you have a large environment, this could be more problematic

24. Domino - 3rd party archivers Is anyone using POP3 to retreive emails from a Domino journal, using "remote" journaling? The doc indicates the db for remote journaling is to be a "mail-in" database. We created the remote journal with the "mailing list" db. Journal works fine, but could not POP3 to the DB. IBM/Lotus support indicated that POP3 can not be used to access a mail-in db. Wondering if we should just use the mail journaling template, and define it in the mail-in database documents. BTW - we use "local" journaling at the time. Just trying to find a way to get the journal docs to a 3rd party (Jatheon). We need to retain the orignal headers of the email
I'm interested in knowing if you found an answer or solution to this question. Ideally I'd like to use POP or IMAP to get the data into a 3rd party archive. Alternatively, if I could send the archived message out via SMTP but I'm guessing I'd need a 3rd party tool for that if one even exists. I suppose I could write my own Extension Manager plug-in but that seems like a lot of work for a something I'm sure someone else has figured out.

25. upgrading of Lotus Domino Just install the R7 software and run it, It will locate and update all the necessary files, my only suggestion is that you don't upgrade the design of the domino directory to R7 immediatly, This is better done manually after the server is restarted using the domino administrator.
It is Best practice to upgrade the Domi Lotus Domino Upgradation to R7- without affecting current DomDoc or Workflow Lotus Domino Server 6.x, Lotus Domino Server 7.x, Lotus migration We are planning to upgrade our Domino R6 servers with Domino R7. we have already workflow 6.5.1 installed on these Domino R6 servers. My question is that, after upgradation of Domino R6 to R7, is there will be any affect on current workflow setup on this server, or it will just work fine ? Also some of the servers also having DomDoc setup with Domino application, is there

will be any affect on current DomDoc setup after upgrading only Domino from R6 to R7?

no Directory before or at the time of upgrading the first server. The Domino Directory is backward compatible and should not effect your servers as long as you have not altered the design. 26. Email still forwarding after forwarding rule has been deleted Lotus Notes We use Domino 7.0.3 on W2K3 and 7.0.3 Notes client on XP Pro. I set up a mail rule to forward email for one of our users to her external/personal email account. We also added my own google account to test the forwarding was working correctly and once we were happy, we removed my google account from the rule. The problem is that the rule continues to forward all this users mail to my google account despite there being no entry in the rule for it. I deleted the rule completely yet the forwarding continues. I recreated it the rule again, and added the google account again, stopped the rule and then removed the google account from it, restarted the rule and even the server. It still forwards to my account and it's driving me crazy. Please can anyone offer any more suggestions
Is it possible you've created both a rule on the server, and on the Notes client? Or possibly a "mail forward" agent is in place on the mail file? Another reason that it may not work is the fact that the information for Rules is held in fields that are attached to the "CalendarProfile" profile document in the mail file. Profile documents are cached in the server by the router and do not always reflect the most recent changes made to them. This is just the way that "Profile" documents work. If you can restart the Router task after making the change you can insure that the most recent profile document information is being used by the Router.

27.Domino service goes down Hello I am network engineer, we are running lotus domino 7.0.2 on Linux operating system, we are facing problems from last 2 to 3 months that domino service is down and we run it again and again but when it is up domino run very well but you know the problems of down time. There is no specific time when service goes down
Open the server log file - log.nsf(path /notesdata or data folder ) or console.log(path /notesdata/IBM_TECHNICAL_SUPPORT/console_*.logwhere * is last server start time)& check why server has got down? It may show you like " shutting down services ldap or http or any other service name Also check if any nsd file got generated or not. File format would be nsd_*.log where * is server crash time. It may help you out why server goes down?

28. Domino Server implementation We have 3 servers in geographical locations. this servers are in same domain name only. Mail routing is happening on peer to peer. So, we planned to move on hub spoke method. Any advise would be appreciated for this.JKR 29.compacting a database There is a mail file which is 4 GB in size, we have archived off 1 GB so far yet this has not reduced the size. I tried to run a compact 30. Creating a new user - missing NSF file I have just tried to setup a new user in Domino Administrator 7.0.2 and all seemed to go smoothly except it did not create a mail/username.nsf file. I have created dozens of new users before with no error
If you created the user via the Domino Administrator and chose to have the mail file created in the background then there should be an entry in the ADMIN4.nsf database for that user name. View Administration Requests from the Server > Analysis tab and verify that the Create Mailfile transaction was processed. If not, then check to make sure that your server is running the ADMINP add-in task.

31. Lotus Notes Database being restored with .000 extension I thought of posting this in the hope that someone has encountered this problem before and solved it. We use the Backup Exec 10d Domino agent to backup our mail databases. When restoring these mail databases they are being restored as database.nsf.000 The restore job says that the in-use file was restored. I cannot understand why it says inuse when the files in question are not open during the restore process. This also happens with the Domino service shut down. Our Domino version is 7.0.3 Any ideas what could be the cause? 32. Lotus Domino server inexplicably shutting down I have recently migrated my Lotus Domino 7 server over to Microsoft Windows XP. There is a database on the Lotus Domino server which is over 10G in size and is continuously accessed by over 60 people in several cities. For the last 10 days, my Lotus Domino server has shut down on its own three times without explanation. I've checked the Windows XP log and the Domino server log but I can't find any explanation.

Lotus Domino 7 will run on a number of Server Based OS's - which Windows XP isn't. Could I also assume that this is on a PC and not Server hardware? Windows XP doesn't really support any redundancy and will only permit a maximum of 10 connections. Does the System Shutdown or only the Domino Service? If it is the actual System shutting down then you may need to review the hardware for any issues (Server hardware may have additional logs to review). 33. Change Regional Profile Hi, I want to change Regional Profile with Lotus Script. Is it possible? Thanks..
Those settings are all stored in the user's notes.ini file. You can modify them using NotesSession.SetEnvironmentVar() using True for the issystemvar argument. It would help to look at a notes.ini file with the settings you want in a text editor. 34.

How to uninstall Domino 7 on iSeries to move to Wintel platform

We are getting ready That's too bad. The System i runs Domino much better than any Windows box ever will, but I am sure you don't need a lecture. You will of course need to move the DATA folder off of your System i to you new Domino server. So create the Domino Server on the Windows box and then you can just copy and past if over from the IFS. I don't know if any problems. I would however use this opportunity to clean up as much as you can and then make sure you are doing COMPACTS and FIXUPS on all large DBs to get them running as smooth as possible. You could also create a cluster and then just cut over when you want but that is a new post all together. 35. domino server 7 shut down automatically I have moved my domino server 7 to a window xp platform recently. the server is manily used for holding a size over 10G database which is constantly and intensively accessed by over 70 people in several cities. However, for the last 10 days, the domino server has shut down without any reason by itself in 3 occassions (the window xp is normal without restart). I have checked the window xp log or the domino server log but can't find any clue?

You going to have to turn up the logging by going into the Notes.ini and changing the setting to get more logging. I think the default on the setting is 2. 1 in only errors and 5 is full on Debug. Next you going to need to google the NSD Lotus Trouble shooting. This will give you all the details to trouble shoot the problem. MEMORY is important to Domino, not CPU. I have a DOMINO Server with a Dual Pentium III 1Ghz and it's a screamer, not because the PIII was such a super hot chip but because I have over 4GB of RAM. You need to feed the beast and the beast needs RAM. If you have less than 2 GB in that server. Beef it up. Your probably starving DOMINO. I strongly urge you to call IBM. All licensed users are support through IBM support. They will help you. You will need to have your comany number. You might also need your IBM Passport number, but that might only be needed for download support. 36. iNotes password issue I have a problem with iNotes. When I first set up my domino (ver. 7.0.1) server, the Lotus Notes client password and the Lotus Webacces password (iNotes) always syncronized. If I changed my Lotus Notes password, my iNotes password automatically changed too. Some months ago that all changed (don't really know what happend) and now I can log on to iNotes, but with a older password (not my current password). I have a few policies enabled where my passwords changes every 90 days and I also disabled the ability for users to change their password when logged on to iNotes(these policies where enabled when the Domino server was set up). Any help how to resolve this issue, where my Lotus Notes and iNotes password are synchronized, is more then welcome 37. how to track deleted document Accidentally Cut was selected from Edit menu bar instead of Properties, user didnt do Paste at that time. Could you let me know how we can track deleted document? thx.

Proper Usage Techniques

A deleted file is essentially an area on disk designated as free and ready to accept data (such as contents of some other file). Luckily, unless the area has already been overwritten, it still holds the contents of the deleted file. Due to this fact it is possible to undelete files. This fact also dictates the following procedure for using FreeUndelete: 1. Stop any activity on the disk you are going to undelete files from! Remember that writing to that disk can damage the contents of the deleted files. Examples of disastrous activity include: copying files to the disk, installing programs there or running programs that use the disk as their swap media. 2. Download and install FreeUndelete. Whenever possible, save the setup executable and install the program to a disk that does not hold files you need to undelete. 3. Run and use FreeUndelete. Tip: It is common that the only drive user has is C: and this is also the drive from where files need to be undeleted. In that case a good solution is using a USB flash drive as FreeUndelete download and install destination.

38.Domino task manager Hello. I'm facing with periodic slow performance on Lotus Domino server. During peak moment I notice in task manager that process nserver.exe reach over 95% CPU usage sometimes. (In most cases was over 90%). Is there some windows or lotus tool, to help me find out which domino task cause so much CPU usage? Process Explorer is not good enough because it can't see what domino task cause CPU overload, it can only see what EXE file causes CPU overload (nagent.exe, for example)
Windows task manager will show a separate task for most Domino tasks. On our server, these Domino tasks can be seen in Task Manager: - Nadminp.exe - namgr.exe (3 of these, two for our two threads, one for an Agent Manager Executive task that controls the other two). - ncalconn.exe - ncldbdir.exe - nclrepl.exe - ndecs.exe - nevent.exe - nreplica.exe - nrouter.exe - nsched.exe - nserver.exe - nservice.exe - nupdate.exe You should be able to look up information about these tasks. The Domino Administrator client shows corresponding tasks for most of these in the Server > Status > Server Tasks view. When the CPU overload occurs, review both the Task Manager and the Server Tasks view to determine what task is causing the problem. Also, ensure you are using the latest version of the server software. The condition you are experiencing may already be fixed in a later version 39.

Lotus domino Server Problem

I had a problem with the transaction logs on a domino server version 7.0. I stopped transactional logging but now when I start up the domino server, there is no activity

showing on the console. If I look at the logs, I can see smtp servers have been connecting and user have been gettin thier mail but there is no indication on the console. All I have is a >. I can type show server and it will give me all the details but nothing else, just a blank screen that appears as if the server is hung. 40. Saving document in web Domino Designer, Lotus Domino, Lotus Domino Server 7.x Hi, I really need urgent help, so I wish to get it here and not just getting advices about searching the forum or the Internet. I have a web form with 2 buttons 1: Sava as draft FIELD draft := "draft"; @Command([FileSave]) It will open the same form, just save it.. This code worked before but suddenly stopped. 2: Publish button FIELD draft := ""; @Command([FileSave]); @Command([FileCloseWindow]); @Command([OpenView]; "mainW") It worked fine too but no longer!! Domino Questions

Is there a way to track the number of email messages that a Domino server sends and receives daily? Sure, but to do this, you need to have statistics running on your Domino server. Statistics are cumulative from the last server restart. They're gathered based on intervals that you set up in the events database. Generally, gathering mail stats once or twice a day is sufficient.

My Lotus Notes Domino server ran out of disk space, and now several mailboxes are experiencing issues receiving and deleting email messages. We receive the error message, "Cannot write or create file (file or disk is read only)." I've checked file permissions and they seem fine. What do you think is the problem?

As you've discovered, bad things happen when you run out of space. I would suggest downing your Lotus Domino server and removing any *.tmp files and the log.nsf. The log might be corrupt, and if so, you won't be able to write any transactions. This also will cause errors. The worst-case scenario is that the mail files might need to be compacted or restored from tape. This situation is an example of why it's important to have proper monitors running against your Lotus Domino server and hardware. Situations like this can cripple you for days while you try to repair the problem.

My Lotus Domino server has been suffering periodically from slow performance. During peak performance times, I notice that the process nserver.exe in the task manager sometimes reaches over 95% CPU usage. In most cases, it is over 90%. Is there a third-party tool to help me determine which Domino task is weighing down the CPU? It is actually the server task. If you look at your task manager, you will see namgr.exe, nreplica.exe, etc. If you have a support contract, I would open a call with IBM on this. The next time that it happens, they may have you put in some debug parameters to try and troubleshoot what is going on.

I am trying to limit the size of incoming email attachments to my Lotus Domino server. How can I do this? This is easily accomplished in the configuration document. On the Router/SMTP -> Restrictions and Controls -> Restrictions tab, the "Maximum message size" field controls maximum inbound attachments. I would also suggest enabling the "Size extension" field in the configuration document under Router/SMTP -> Advanced -> Commands and Extensions. You can also use your anti-spam/anti-virus service, or your as/av appliance (whichever is applicable) to set this limit.

One of our Domino cluster servers is behaving mischievously. The system is routing between both private networks and public networks. Do you know what might be causing this behavior? The Lotus Domino server is looking for the most available route. It's also looking to your notes.ini settings, as well as your server and connection documents for routing instructions. In the server doc/notes.ini, the first TCP/IP protocol that you list should refer to public usage/routing. The Clustered TCP/IP protocol should be in its own Domino Named Network,

I'd like to know what the best practice is to accomplish Lotus Notes database replication for disaster recovery purposes -- is it a cold standby? In the case of disaster, I want to set up a new Lotus Domino server, and then build Lotus Domino with a replicated database. In this scenario, what is the data we MUST replicate?

Also, I have been monitoring disk activity for our Lotus Domino server, and found that the data change rate is very high during compact and the fix-up task. Do you know any way to reduce the changes? What data you need is wholly dependant on what is deemed critical. From a Lotus Domino perspective, names.nsf is the only "necessary" database. Other directories and mission-critical applications should also be considered, as well as key mail files and the like. You will need separately stored server ID files, Notes.ini files and the like, since those do not replicate.
