1. What is Terrorism?
Terrorism is the cruelest of crimes which kills less criminals but more innocent citizens. Terrorism has no absolute definition. If simply stated, terror is extreme or intense fear. It is a psychological state, which combines the physical and mental efforts to create dread and insecurity.
Terrorism is the unlawful use of force or violence against persons or property to coerce a government, civilian s population, or any segment thereof in furtherance of political or social objectives. (FBI--- Definition)
a) Frustration: terrorism basically springs from frustration; it may be either economic frustration. Frustration can even emanate from the absence of ones fundamental rights. b) Poverty: Poverty is another main reason behind increased rate of terrorism in recent times. There are over 1.2 billion people worldwide who live on less on a dollar a day. They do not have the means to make two meals a day. So they lose the charm of life and do not mind in involving any activities including terrorism. c) Political unrest: political unrest is another reason for domestic terrorism. The political parties only understand power. They always want to be at helm of the country so that they can enjoy the pomp and grandeur of the cost of the poor citizens.
d) Dominating tendency of people: some people in the society have the tendency to dominate over others. In order to realize their wish they resort to ant kind of activities including terrorism to prove their supremacy.
e) Cultural reasons: cultural changes cause quite a few changes in social life. The element of culture like history, language, custom and tradition, art and literature indicates the maintenance of national identity. Breaking off the improving, and maturing, bond among these elements leads to abnormal consequences, which mostly occur to be anarchy, violence etc. f) Ethnicity, nationalism/separatism: Probably the most contested cause of terrorism
is an aggrieved group resorting to violence for nationalist or separatist reasons
g) Social Reasons: In areas where there are minority groups there have been incidences of
terrorism emerging as a result of these groups not being granted adequate rights or as a result of seeing their culture destroyed.
h) Nationalism: Throughout History there have been examples of terrorism being used by
Nationalist groups who were trying to gain independence and the right to self determination. The aggrieved groups create violence to separate the states or to bring drifts among the countries.
i) Religious Reasons: When Religious Freedoms are violated groups often resort to the use of
terror tactics to try and address the issue. Much terrorism is caused by religious beliefs in which people formulate an idea of how the world and everyone in it should be. These terrorists religions are determined to destroy anything that stands between them and their ideal world.
The use of these innovations for terrorist activities is limited only by the imagination of the terrorist. Everyone is a potential target. This creates a climate of fear within a society.
We wake up more worried than ever that something really horrible has happened while we were asleep. Terrorism adds far too much pressure on the public's coping mechanism and brings nothing good.
2. Social impacts: y y Social norms change for people living with a consistent presence of terrorism in their lives. Conversation, daily concerns, and living with the heightened risks of sudden, violent injury or death can change people's expectations, actions, outlooks, and interactions with one another. The 9/11 attacks had immediate and overwhelming effects upon the United States population. Gratitude toward uniformed public-safety workers and especially toward fire fighters was widely expressed in light of both the drama of the risks taken on the scene and the high death toll among the workers. Many police officers and rescue workers elsewhere in the country took leaves of absence to travel to New York City to assist in the grim process of recovering bodies from the twisted remnants of the Twin Towers.
Numerous incidents of harassment and hate crimes were reported against Middle Easterners and other "Middle Eastern-looking" people, particularly Sikhs, due to the fact that Sikh males usually wear turbans, which are Stereo typically associated with Muslims in the United States. Apart from this, many children & people started felling unsecured about there Lives . There was numerous news about the people suspecting Asians , Middle East people as terrorists. Muslims basically started facing a lot of problems after the 9/11 attacks.
Conclusion
Terrorism is a complex problem with many diverse causes. Consequently no single effective method to counter it exists. To combat terrorism, one must first understand the underlying motivations for each particular group's actions. Then a strategy needs to be developed based on those findings. Regardless, it is difficult to fight terrorism without endangering civil liberties. Many innocent people get caught in the cross-fire. Ending terrorist threats requires imaginative and fluid thinking, whether to attack the roots of terrorism or neutralize a particular group. Terrorism has become on of the major problem for economy and people of Pakistan. Repetition of terrorist attacks on various important organization and cities has made every Pakistani very conscious about these terrorists. Suicide bombing in shopping malls, common business centers and on roads is only affecting economy but also social and psychological status of every Pakistani. Pakistan being front line partner in war against terrorism have paid much more than actual. Pakistan has imported terrorism in his own territory by supporting allied forces in countering terrorism. Pakistan must be compensated for its damages in war against terror. International community, donors, and financial facilitator should come forward to strength Pakistan to fight against the terrorism.
