A grand Sudarshana Homam was conducted on Sunday 2nd of January 2011 at Sri Selva Vinayakar Temple at South Maclean. Brisbane Australia

The programme for the day consisted of

A Sahasra Nama Parayanam of the Sudarsana Moola manthra by a group of devotees (ie each devotee recited 108 the Moola Manthra). Performing the Yagyam or Homam while chanting the Sudarsana Moola Manthram and making various offering to the Yagna. A group recital of Sudarshana Ashtakam by all the devotees., This hymn composed by Vedanta Desikar is proven to remove all obstacles and cure all ailments. A Thirumanjanam (or Abishekam) to Lord Vishnu and his consorts to the recitation of various vedic chants like the Purusha Sukahtm, Sri Suktham etc. A grand chanting of Vishnu Sahasranamam by all the devotees during the Abishekam and Alankar to the Divya Murthis. Chanting of songs and bajans in praise of Lord Narayan.

On this auspicious occasion a wonderful Shaligrama Malai was donated to Lord Narayana by Sri. Vasu Vasudevan and Smt.Sujatha which now adorns his gracious body. The grand ceremony was followed by a Maha Aarthi with chanting of Veda Sathumurai and Venkatesha Mangalam. All the sponsors received a Sudarshana Chakra medallion. If this medallion is kept in the prayer area of the family and prayers and prasdams offered, then the benefits will be bound less. This event was attended by around 250 people and the temple volunteers had made special arrangement to provide Maha Prasadam (Annadanam) to all the devotees. In spite of one of worst rainy season in Queenslands history, Varuna Baghawan (the lord of the rain) showed mercy on the devotees by stopping the deluge during the time of the Homam so that the devotees could participate in this festival without any inconvenience. A copy of the Moola Manthram and Sudarshana Ashtakam was distributed to all the devotees and the same is enclosed at the end of this news letter. Traditionally, this stotram is recited in homes, when some one in the family has fever or illness of other kinds. Swami Desikan is said to have composed it to help the residents of Thiruputtkuzhi, when they suffered from the grip of an epidemic fever. Swami Desikan chose the Dhrithas Chandas as a meter for the 8 verses praising Sudarsana. He chose the Oupachandasikam meter for the Phala Sruti sloka. Both these meters hint at the Vedic origin of Sudarsanar as indicated by Swami Desikan in one or more verses of this Stotram To view some of the photos taken on this occasion please check this site:
