Whenanewyearbegins,manypeopletrytotake sometimetoreflectonthepast,andresolvethat theywanttodothingsdifferently.Thisisa seasonwhenpeopleareprobablymorefocused onpersonalchangethananyothertimeofthe year.Thisisagreattimeforreevaluatinglifes priorities.Allofusarekeenlyawareofthingswe needtochangeinourlives. Weseemtohavethisintrinsicdesiretobebetter people.Sowecommittoactionsthatwill improveourhealth(loseweight,exercisemore); ourfinances(getoutofdebt,startsaving);our work;oureducation(takeaclass;learna language);reduceourstress(limitmy commitments;managemytimebetter);start newrelationships,ordeepenexisting relationships(spouse,children,friends), Unfortunately,alotoftimessomethinggoes wronginthisprocessforchange.Inonestudyof peoplemakingresolutions,52%wereconfident ofachievingtheirgoals.Butonly12%achieved theirgoals.Ina2007studyfromtheUniversity ofBristol,78%ofthepeoplewhomade resolutionsfailedtocarrythemout. Hereisastrategyforpersonalchangethatcan work!

Step#1SetaSpecificGoal
Futurecommitmentsthataregeneralarealmost alwaysdoomedtofail:Imgoingtobeabetter spouse.ImgoingtobeabetterChristian. Thosewordsaresogeneralthatyoujustcant measurethem;therefore,theyreusuallynot attainable! AlongtimeagoIwasaguywhohadalotof weighttolose.Thefactis,nowIweighawhole lotlessthanIusedto.WhatIfoundwasthatyou say,Imgoingtoloseapound,apoundanda half,oracouplepoundsaweek. Bysettingaspecificgoalthatismeasurable,you willknowifyousucceededinachievingyour goal!Setaspecificgoal,andyouareonyourway toaNewYou!
