First Communion: Reminder for all 2nd Grade First Communicants and their families that there will be the sacrament of 1st Reconciliation on Saturday, January 21 in the church at 10:00am. Confirmation: All the 8th grade Confirmation Candidates and their Sponsors are asked to attend the Confirmation Commitment Ceremony at the 11:00am Mass on Sunday, January 29. Either the Sponsor (or one or both parents) needs to accompany the Candidate. Looking Ahead - Important Dates in 2012: 8th Grade Mandatory Confirmation Retreat - Saturday, April 21 from 1:00-6:00pm. Sacrament of Confirmation Tuesday, April 24 at 7:00pm First Holy Communion Retreat, Saturday, April 14 from 9:00-12:30pm. First Holy Communion - Sunday, May 6 at 1:30pm

THE EPIPHANY OF THE LORD

Once again, we thank all those who made the celebration of the Birth of the Savior and the Feast of the Motherhood of the Virgin Mary on New Years Day such a joyful one. We thank the choir, those who decorated the church so nicely, the Servers, Lectors, Ushers, Eucharistic Ministers, and parishioners involved in outreach ministries to our shut-ins and needy. Carol Ann Bradley, the Parish Music Director-Organist will be away from the weekend of January 7/8 through the weekend of January 22/23; Carol Ann will undergo foot surgery as an outpatient. We assure Carol Ann of our prayers. Debbie Franz, our music intern from Trinity Lutheran Seminary, will direct the choir as well as Thursday evening and Sunday morning rehearsals. We welcome Debbie as the Parish music intern and thank her for the wonderful work she is doing with the Parish choir and the music program for children.

Teens of the Parish and their friends are invited to th th th attend. It is for those in Grades 8 -12 -- Come check us out starting January 15 , 2012! PARENT LIFE INFO: Starting tonight, Sunday, January 8 , OLV Lifeteen will be offering a support group to gather parents together, engage in faith and discussion about our kids. We need each other to build a successful future for our kids and youth ministry. All parents know how hard it is to get their kids to go to Mass, religion class, youth ministry activities and be engaged in Parish life. Well have speaker Karen Cook with us this evening, plus some time to talk with other parents and just relax while eating dessert! If you want to come but need childcare please let Holly know. It will begin at 7 and go until 8PM in Victory Hall, which is the Church basement. March for Life, Jan. 22nd-24th 2011


For the first time EVER, OLV teens (those in grades 8 -12 ) and adults, are invited to travel to Washington, D.C. for the March for Life--an opportunity to DEFEND LIFE! This is a two-day, one night trip to Washington, D.C. Total cost is $100 which includes bus fare, hotel room based on four person occupancy, and breakfast at the hotel. We will be travelling with youth and adults from St. Matthews in Gahanna. SCHEDULE: Sunday, January 22nd: Departure from St. Matthew at 6:30AM; Mass for Life at the National Shrine Basilica Monday, January 23rd: Youth Rally, Mass, March for Life, and Testimonies at the Supreme Court Tuesday, January 24th: Arrival Back at St. Matthew at 2:00AM Registration will continue until spots are filled Deposit payment of $50 is necessary with registration consent form. WEEK OF PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY - On FriCLERGY WHO COOK RETURNS TO THE JOSEPHINUM: Clergy Who Cook 2012 will be held at the
Jessing Center at the Josephinum on Friday, January 27, from 7-10 p.m. Clergy of the diocese prepare samples of their favorite dishes, guests vote with cash donations for the top chef! The event is $35 per person; a cash bar will be available. Reservations and advance payment are required by January 13. Thomas Ryan, C.S.P., Director of the Paulist North American Office for Ecumenical and Interfaith Relations will speak at the St. Thomas More Newman Center (64 W. Lane Ave), on The Call to Unity Among the Followers of Jesus: What Can I Do? For over 25 years, Fr. Ryan has ministered in the ecumenical movement. Open to all people of faith, we will look at two key grassroots approaches: Spiritual Ecumenism & Receptive Ecumenism.

PRAYER OF HEART AND BODY: Workshop on mediation and yoga as prayer will be offered by Fr. Thomas Ryan, C.S.P. at the St. Thomas More Newman Center (64 W. Lane Ave) on Saturday, January 21, 10:00a-noon. Meditation and yoga are taught in a context of Christian faith with an eye towards helping Christians realize a positive integration of these practices into their prayer life and spirituality. Participants will learn a meditative method drawn from the Christian contemplative tradition and experience the potential of bodily movement as prayer by entering into a guided series of yoga postures to the words of classic Christian prayers set to music. No prior experience required. Bring a mat. A freewill offering of $10 is suggested.
