God's Goodness
by Theresa S.

Children discover that the good we have comes from God. Materials: 5 large clear cups, Dropper, 1 tray, Coffee filter, Sand, gravel, charcoal, Dirt, Funnel, Pitcher of water Duration: Approximately 10 minutes Topics: Choices, Confession, Purity

Target Audience: Grades 1-6 (Ages 6-12)

What you will do: Do both parts of this object talk on a large tray to catch any spills. Part 1 - Cup Full of Goodness (2 large clear cups, pitcher of water, dropper) Fill one cup of water completely full to the top and maybe even overflowing. As you fill the cup with water, say, This represents God's goodness. Gods goodness ever is and ever will be the same fullness. Take one dropper full of water from Gods cup and put it into another empty cup. Say, This represents our goodness. Our goodness comes from God and is always changing. BUT, Gods goodness is never lessened when He gives us goodness. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Part 2 - God is Pure Goodness (3 large clear cups, coffee filter, sand, gravel, charcoal, dirt, funnel, water)

Fill two cups with water, one full and the other half way. The full one will represent Gods pure goodness. Add some dirt to the half-filled cup to represent us. Set up the other cup with the funnel, filter, gravel, charcoal and then the sand. Say, God is pure, but we have to be purified. Explain that you are going to attempt to purify our water and make it as pure as Gods. Pour dirty water through the filter with gravel, charcoal and sand. As the water drips through, ask the children, Can we purify ourselves and become as good as God? (No) Why not? (Because no one can be as good as God.) Ask the kids, How can we be purified? (By confessing our sins to God, asking for His forgiveness, accepting Jesus as our Lord and Savior, and asking the Holy Spirit to come and live in us.)

What's Inside by Theresa S. Children discover what pure goodness is.

Materials: Knife, Plate, Solid milk chocolate, Chocolate covered candy bar, Hollow chocolate Duration: Approximately 10 minutes Topics: Character of God, Purity

Target Audience: Grades 1-6 (Ages 6-12)

What you will do: You will have three volunteers come forward. The first will cut the solid milk chocolate bar several times to see what is inside. The second will cut open the chocolate covered candy bar, and the third will cut open the hollow chocolate candy. What you will say: (Have a volunteer come forward and cut open the solid milk chocolate bar.) This chocolate is pure solid chocolate all the way through like God is pure goodness all the way through. (Have another volunteer come forward and cut the chocolate covered candy bar.) This chocolate covered candy bar is kind of like us. We have some of the chocolate goodness on us, but we are no where near pure goodness. (Have a third volunteer come forward and cut the hollow chocolate candy.) This is not solid and pure goodness like God is pure goodness. Many people

may look good on the outside but be hollow when it really counts. (Cut up candy bars on plate and have a volunteer take chocolate around to share with classmates.)

Melanie Rushing suggested this fun addition: After the talk, I gave the children 2 miniature chocolate bars and two notes. I told the kids to give a chocolate bar and a note to two separate adults who they believed to be pure through and through. The note explains why the child gave the note to the adult. It also advised the receiver to question themselves about their own spiritual purity to be sure that what that child believed was true. It was a humbling experience for many.

Sunday School Take Home Page

To parents: This page is to let you know what your child learned in Sunday school today. In addition, you will find this week's memory verse, a suggested activity, and a short prayer to reinforce the lesson. Being involved and interacting with your child can be very rewarding for both of you.

What we learned: Today the children learned that God always has been and always will be infinitely good. Without God, there would be no good in the world.

Memory Work: For I am a great king, says the LORD Almighty, and my name is to be feared among the nations. Malachi 1:14 NIV Practice this verse several times with your child during the week. This will not only help him or her remember the verse, but it will also help to reinforce what he or she learned during class.

Suggested Parent/Child Activity: Take a walk with your child, taking turns to point out the good things that God has created. After your walk, pray and worship God together with your child, thanking God for His infinite goodness.

Daily Prayer: Father God, we thank You for Your infinite goodness and we cannot imagine living in a world that You do not ultimately control. Thank You for abundantly blessing us with Your goodness each and every day. Amen.
