Product Design and Development

2+1

The focus of this course is on product development activities that benefit from the participation of all core functions like marketing, design, and manufacturing. Product development team members are expected to have competence in one or more specific disciplines such as mechanical engineering, electrical or electronic engineering, industrial design, market research or manufacturing. For this reason the course is not designed to discuss, for example, how to perform stress analysis or to create a conjoint survey. These are disciplinary skills and are expected to be possessed by someone in the product design team. The integrative methods in this course are intended to facilitate problem solving and decision making among people with different disciplinary perspectives. The course, in short, is about structured methods for completing developmental activities.
