The BMW 1 Series is the only car in its class to have the well-known rear-wheel drive that is typical of a BMW. Depending on the car's load you can continue for a distance of anything up to 150 kilometres. What is more: even in the event of a sudden loss of pressure, run-flat tyres remain manoeuvrable and largely maintain their directional stability, despite the altered handling characteristics. In this emergency situation, the full operability of the driving control systems ABS (Anti-lock Brake System), ASC (Automatic Stability Control) and DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) assures maximum safety. Another handy benefit of the RSC tyres is that you do not need to keep a spare wheel in the car, leaving you with more space in the luggage compartment.

Even though you will always be welcome to drop by at your BMW partner, you only need to bring your car for Service when it is really necessary. That is what Condition Based Service (CBS) is all about: electronic control systems constantly check the most important wearing parts and operating fluids in your vehicle. The Next Service indicator in the InfoDisplay automatically informs you four weeks in advance, based on the measured data, that servicing is due imminently. If you wish, you can call up the date of the next Service manually at any time via your InfoDisplay or via iDrive*. That means for example that you know in good time before setting off on holiday whether the brake pads ought to be changed or not. CBS therefore keeps you always well informed, saves you unnecessary trips to your BMW Service partner and means that you only spend money on genuinely needed servicing. Thats what we mean by Service made to measure.
*iDrive is the innovative operating concept from BMW. It enables a large number of functions to be governed with a single control element the controller on the centre console. Guided intuitively with one hand, you need take no more than a brief glance at the screen, allowing you to concentrate fully on the road.

Step 1: press the controller to jump from the main menu to On-board Info, where you can call up detailed information.

You wont need to open the engine lid on all BMW 1 Series models that have a petrol engine: the electronic oil level gauge constantly monitors the oil level. If an oil change is due imminently, the InfoDisplay automatically alerts you four weeks beforehand at the latest a convenient solution! If you wish, you can also perform an oil level check manually at any time via the InfoDisplay or iDrive* (depending on equipment specification).
*iDrive is an optional extra.
