Coca-Cola is a well known brand across the globe for manufacturing and marketing of its soft drinks products. It was a great opportunity to visit their warehouse in Tamil Nadu Chennai to understand their operational process. The visit was planned for three days This warehouse contains 40 SKUs i.e. brands in different bottles one is RGB and other is in PET bottle. The warehouse space is up to 24,500 Sq. Ft. with a stock keeping area of 9,000 Sq. Ft. Their warehouse is operated on 24 X 7 bases carrying out all the receiving and dispatch activities. The dispatch is carried out with 45 vehicle per day of which they own 16 vehicles. Almost 10,000 bottles of PET and RGB is dispatched per day during peak sales period in a year. Warehouse is operated in two shifts each shift operates for 12 hours. Warehouse is operated by 1. Warehouse Manager 1 per shift 2. Supervisor 4 per shift 3. Loaders 25 per shift 4. Security 6 per shift 5. Cashier 1 6. Pre-seller - 35 7. Warehouse Executive 3 per shift

Process y Pre-Seller is a person who is intended to collect the order from different retails in a specified area. The person is provided with MC-35 (hand held terminus) which is updated for order collection. y Order is collected for the second day dispatch. y Pre-Seller is supposed to reach the warehouse by end of day for order entry. y These orders are then updated in the system by the concern person. Then there is manual stock check for the orders placed. y With reference to the stock material against the order placed a route map (tool) is run in the system to generate load sheet. y This load sheet segregates the order placement according to the retail location for a complete trip.

Loading y Loading is carried out according to the load sheet generated in the system by the warehouse executive on the basis of order placed through Pre-Seller via MC-35. y Material is loaded in the vehicle according to FIFO system. y Load sheet includes 1. Item number 2. Description of the material 3. Lot number 4. MRP 5. Number of cases / bottles 6. Manufacturing date 7. L. R. number 8. Route number 9. Salesman name 10. Truck number 11. Loading date y Loader checks for return of any material from the earlier trip and cross check against the load sheet to continue the same material in the new trip in the same vehicle instead of adding new material. y Material is loaded in the vehicle according to the load sheet, and submitted to warehouse executive to generate delivery challan. y Load sheets are generated in night shift and almost fifty percent of vehicle is loaded in same shift. This helps for fast dispatch of material in morning shift resulting in to early delivery to the retailer.

Un-Loading y Material is received in the warehouse from the different factories of CocaCola on pallets with shrink wrap in some condition. y Warehouse supervisor tally the documents against the physical material received and give the stamped & signed receipt to the driver. y Each material are packed in following type 1. PET bottles (Poly Ethylin Therapthalit) 2. RGB (Returnable Glass Bottle) y This material is then unloaded in the warehouse with the help of forklift and stored on ground as per stacking norms i.e. up to two levels. Due to space constraints this is stored till three levels. Most of the unloading process is carried during night shift. y Sales returned material in the vehicle after completion of trip to warehouse is cross checked against the load sheet by the supervisor with remarks and unloaded in the warehouse.

Distribution y Driver confirms the material loaded in the vehicle with the load sheet provided to him and moves on the decided route given. y This will contain 1. Route 2. Retailer Name 3. Retailer Address 4. Quantity y Driver also carries an HHT (Hand Held Terminus) before starting any trip y This HHT is updated by warehouse supervisor with all the data of orders brought by the Pre-Seller from the system after running the road map tool. y Driver then reach the retailer as per the load sheet and the route mentioned to deliver the material to the particular retailer. y After delivery of the material according to the delivery challan loader collects the same quantity of empty bottles (RGB) from the same retailer and load in the vehicle with proper segregation according to different brand. y Driver then generates the bill and collects the money accordingly. y Driver should inform Pre-Seller for any cancellation of order by the retailer during the delivery, or defects in HHT, or any other issues during billing the retailer. y After completing the distribution driver comes back to the warehouse to settle all the cash collected from the retailer against the order material. y Cancelled order material is returned to the warehouse under supervision of warehouse supervisor. y Distribution includes one driver and two loaders. y Driver is responsible to move according to the route provided and operating HHT for bill generation with collection of money from the retailer. Driver also delivers the material against the discount coupons to the retailer. y Both the loaders are responsible to unload the material at the retailer according to the deliver challan and collect the empty bottles from the retailer. They are also supposed to segregate the empty bottles brand wise in different crates. These loaders are awarded with cash incentive for segregation of empty bottles in carte brand wise.

Re-logistics y At the time of distribution driver should collect the empty bottle equal to number of filled bottles given to the retailer. y These are Returnable Glass Bottles and PET bottles. y These RGB is then unloaded according to different brands in different crates by the loader after collecting from the retailer. y After reaching the warehouse empty bottles are unloaded and stacked near the warehouse premises. y These empty bottles are then loaded in the vehicle determined and send to the respective factory for refilling.

Warehouse Operation y Material is received at warehouse from different factories of Coca-Cola Pvt. Ltd. y These materials are checked against the documents from the driver. They are then entered for damage, short / excess if any. y These materials are than stored on three levels in warehouse and segregated according to different brands in PET bottle and RGB. y Unloading from vehicle and stacking is done through forklift. y If there is damage in packing they are repacked accordingly in warehouse. y Stock checking is done on daily basis to cross verify to avoid nay variance. y The main concern of warehouse manager is to keep zero variance in inventories. y Warehouse in-charge should update the number of vehicle loaded to logistics department on daily basis.
