The Tin Woodgirl(ros idayu@syazirah) The Wicked Witch(zahirah) Winged Monkeys(borhan&wan izni) Scene 1 The beginning (Perlis to Oz) Narrator: Wai Niang lived in Perlis with her aunt. One day a strange thing happened. Cyclone hit the place. (sound of the wind). The house swirled around and rose slowly into the air. Wai Niang felt as if she is going up in a balloon. Hour after hour passed, slowly Wai Niang gets over her fright. Now she notices that the house is not moving anymore. She opens the door. (sound of the door opening) WAI NIANG: Wow, its marvelous! What place is this? There are lovely patches of grass, trees bearing rich and luscious fruits, gorgeous flowers all around. Ive never seen a beautiful place like this. (While Wai Niang looks around, a munchkin sees what is happening) MUNCHKIN 1: Someone killed the witch! MUNCHKIN 2: Someone killed the witch! MUNCHKIN 1&2: Someone killed the witch!!! MUNCHKIN 3: This is the latest news, someone had killed the wicked witch. (tv3 music) (The munchkins surround Wai Niangs house) MUNCHKIN: You are welcome, to the land of Munchkins. We are so grateful to you for killing the wicked witch of the East and for setting our people free from bondage. WAI NIANG: You are very kind but there must be some mistake. I have not killed anything. (Everybody looks at the house)

MUNCHKIN: Well technically your house did See! There are two toes sticking out from under a block of wood. (Wai Niang looks at the house and gives a little cry of fright) WAI NIANG: Oh dear, oh dear! This house must have fallen on her. What shall we do? MUNCHKIN: Well there is nothing to be done. She is the wicked witch of the east, as I said. She has held all us for many years and treat us like slaves. Now thanks to you they are all set free.yeay!! WAI NIANG: What place is this? MUNCHKIN: This is the Land of Oz. We are cut off from all the rest of the world. We have witches and wizards among us and of course we have good and bad witches. WAI NIANG: I thought all witches are wicked MUNCHKIN: Oh no, that is a great mistake. They may look weird, funny, and a little outdated in fashion, but there are good witches. WAI NIANG: Tell me about the wizard. MUNCHKIN 1: Oz himself is the great wizard. He is the most powerful wizard. He lives in the City of Emeralds. By the way, the silver shoes are yours. And you shall have them to wear. (he reaches down and picks up the shoes. After shaking the dust out, he gives them to Wai Niang) MUNCHKIN 2: The witch of the East is proud of those silver shoes. There is some charm connected with them. But we dont know what it is. WAI NIANG: Thanks. (she wears the shoes) I have no shoes to wear anyway. This would do. I am anxious to get back to my aunt, I am sure she will worry about me. Can you help me find my way? (Everybody shakes their heads. Wai Niang begins to sob for she wants to go back but did not know what to do). WAI NIANG: What should I do then? Sob.. sob... MUNCHKIN: My dear, perhaps you can go to the city of Emeralds and ask the great Oz to help you. WAI NIANG: How can I get there? MUNCHKIN: You must walk. It is a long journey. Through a country that is sometimes pleasant and sometimes dark and terrible.

WAI NIANG: Wont you go with me? MUNCHKIN: No I cannot do that. Im sorry. The road to the City of Emeralds is paved with yellow bricks. So y ou cant miss it. Good bye my dear. (The Munchkins bid her goodbye) Scene 2 (At a cornfield) NARRATOR: Wai Niang starts her journey. She follows the yellow brick road towards the City of Emeralds. She is surprised as she walks along, to see how pretty the country is. After a long walk, she stops to rest. There is a great cornfield beyond the field. And not far away, she sees a scarecrow. WAI NIANG: Did the scarecrow just wink and fart at me? How strange? I cant remember any scarecrow that winked or farted. (puzzled) SCARECROW: Good day. WAI NIANG: Did you speak? SCARECROW : No (nods his head) Yes (shakes his head) WAI NIANG: Are you doing that on purpose, or cant you make up your mind. SCARECROW: Thats the trouble, I cant make up my mind, I havent got any brain, only straw. WAI NIANG: How can you talk if you havent got a brain? SCARECROW: I dont know, but some people without brain do a lot of talking, dont they? WAI NIANG: Yes, I guess youre right. SCARECROW: Anyway, how do you do? WAI NIANG: Im pretty well, thank you. How do you do? SCARECROW: Im not feeling well, for its very boring being hanging up here night and day to scare away crows. WAI NIANG: Cant you get down?

SCARECROW: No, for this pole is stuck up my back. If you will please take away the pole, I shall be thankful to you. (Wai Niang lifts the figure off the pole) SCARECROW: Thank you very much. I feel like a new man. (He bows and walks along beside Wai Niang) SCARECROW : Who are you and where are you going? WAI NIANG: My name is Wai Niang and Im going to the Emerald City, to ask the great Oz to send me back to Perlis. SCARECROW: Do you think if I go to see Oz at the Emerald City, he would give me some brains? WAI NIANG: I cannot tell. But you may come with me if you like. SCARECROW: I dont mind my legs and arms and body being stuffed because I cannot get hurt. But I do not want people to call me a fool. I wish I had a brain.(sigh) WAI NIANG: I understand how you feel. Come with me and Ill ask Oz to do all he can for you. SCARECROW: Thank you.(cheerfully) (They continue walking) SCARECROW: Tell me something about yourself and the country you come from. WAI NIANG: Im from Perlis. The cyclone had carried me here. This is a very beautiful country compared to Perlis. SCARECROW: I cannot understand why you wish to leave this beautiful country and go back to Perlis. WAI NIANG: This is because you have no brain. No matter how many times Perlis got flooded, but there is no place like home. SCARECROW: Alright, Im sorry. Lets go.

Scene 3

( Jungle Meeting the Tin Woodgirl ) NARRATOR: Towards evening they come to a great forest, where the trees grew so big and close together. They continue walking and spend the night there. Early morning, Wai Niang and scarecrow continue their journey. Suddenly, she hears a deep groan. (Sound of a groan) WAI NIANG: Who is that? SCARECROW: I cannot imagine but we can go and see. (Both of them turn and walk through the forest a few steps) WAI NIANG: Oh, its a man made entirely of tin. Hello, did you groan? TIN WOODGIRL: Yes, I did, Ive been groaning for more than a year and no one has ever heard me before or come to help me. (feeling sad) WAI NIANG: What can I do for you?. TIN WOODGIRL: Get an oil can and oil my joints. They are rusted so badly that I cannot move them at all. You will find an oil can just next to me WAI NIANG: (takes the oil can) Where are your joints? TIN WOODGIRL: Oil my neck first, and then the joints in my arms. (Both the Scarecrow and Wai Niang help to oil the Tin Woodgirl) TIN WOODGIRL: Wow! I feel great. Thank you guys. You have certainly saved my life. How did you happen to be here? WAI NIANG: We are on our way to the Emerald City to see the great Oz. TIN WOODGIRL: Why do you want to see Oz? WAI NIANG: I want him to send me back to Perlis and the Scarecrow wants him to put a few brains into his head. TIN WOODGIRL: Do you suppose Oz could give me a heart? WAI NIANG: Well I guess so. TIN WOODGIRL: So if you will allow me to join your party, I will also go to the Emerald City and ask Oz to help me.

SCARECROW: Come along (Continue walking) SCARECROW: Tingirl, why do you want to ask for a heart? TIN WOODGIRL: If you ask me, I want a heart because, there is once, (everybody looks above) I fell in love with a munchkin boy who is so handsome. We promised to marry each other but one day, the Witch of the East made my axe slip and cut right through my body splitting me into halves that cause me to lose my heart. Then the tinsmith came to my help but I lost all my love for the munchkin boy. One day, I forgot to oil myself. My joints had rusted and I was left alone until you came to help me. While I was in love, I was the happiest girl on Earth. But no one can love if one has no heart. (They all nod) WAI NIANG: Ermm.. thats right! To Oz? ALL: To Oz! Scene 4 (At a Jungle Meeting the Cowardly lion) (Sounds of growls from wild animal hidden among the trees) (they feel scared) Narrator: Suddenly, come from the forest a terrible roar. (A lion appears and with one blow of his paw he sends the scarecrow spinning over and over to the edge of the road. She strikes the Tin Woodgirl with his sharp claws but to the lions surprise he could not hurt her. But the Tin Woodgirl falls over in the road and lays still. COWARDLY LION: Haha, are you afraid, scared of me eh? Hahhaha (Scarecrow and Tingirl are so scared of the lion) WAI NIANG: Shame on You! Dont you dare hurt my friends. (Wai Niang hits the lions nose) COWARDLY LION: Ouch, what did you do that for? Is my nose bleeding? (He rubs his nose with his paw where Wai Niang had hit it) WAI NIANG: Of course not, you are nothing but a big coward! Picking on things weaker creature. COWARDLY LION: Yes, you are right. I am a coward. Im sorry WAI NIANG: What makes you a coward?

COWARDLY LION: Its a mystery. I suppose I was born that way. All I can do is just roared loudly to scare others. But if anything comes near me I will feel very scared. All the other animals in the forest expect me to be brave for the lion is everywhere thought to be the king of beasts. SCARECROW: But that isnt right, the king of beasts shouldnt be a coward. COWARDLY LION: I know... sob sob.. (Wiping a tear from his eye with the tip of his tail.) It is my great sorrow and makes my life very unhappy. But whenever there is danger, my heart begins to beat fast. TIN WOODGIRL: Perhaps you have a heart disease COWARDLY LION: Maybe TIN WOODGIRL: If you have, you ought to be glad because it proves you have a heart. For my part I have no heart. So I cannot have heart disease. SCARECROW: Do you have a brain? COWARDLY LION: I suppose so. Ive never looked to see. SCARECROW: Im going to the great Oz to ask him to give me some, for my head is stuffed with straw. TIN WOODGIRL: And Im going to ask him to give me a heart. And we are going to ask him to send Wai Niang home. COWARDLY LION: Do you think Oz could give me courage. SCARECROW: Just as easily as he could give me brain. TIN WOODGIRL: Or give me a heart WAI NIANG: Or send me home. COWARDLY LION: Then if you dont mind, Ill go with you, and I would ask him to give me some courage. Is that ok? WAI NIANG: You will be very welcome.

Scene 5 (L.O.S.T) NARRATOR: There is no other adventure to mar the peace of their journey. Once, the Tin Woodgirl steps upon a beetle that is crawling along the road and killed the poor little thing. This makes the Tin Woodgirl very unhappy and weeps several tears of sorrow. The tears runs slowly down her face and rusts her jaw. WAI NIANG: Tingirl, where should we take a rest? Tingirl? COWARDLY LION: I think she cant open his mouth. Her jaws are tightly rusted together. What should we do? SCARECROW: She probably needs this (he takes the oil can and oils the Tin Woodgirls jaws.) TIN WOODGIRL: Thank you. Now I could talk as well as before. I should be extra careful. If I kill another bug or beetle I surely will cry again and crying rusts my jaws and I cannot speak. (Then she walks very carefully, with her eyes on the road making sure she does not step on any bugs anymore) WAI NIANG: (confused) Errr.... where should we go now? TIN WOODGIRL: I have no idea. (Lion shakes his shaggy mane) SCARECROW: Hurmm... I think I have a brain tumor right now... I cant come up with any suggestion. TIN WOODGIRL: Brain tumor? How can you have a brain tumor? You do not have a brain, remember? SCARECROW: Oh yes, you are right, (scratching his head) I forgot. (Everybody laughs at him) WAI NIANG: Hey guys! Look, the Emerald City is closer than ever. (Pointing to the city)

Scene 6 (The Witch and the Winged Monkey) NARRATOR: On the west side of the land, the wicked Witch of the West, sees Wai Niang and his companions. She also sees the silver shoes, she orders her winged monkey to seize them. WITCH: Huha huha huha.. pekaboom.. winged monkey .. come to me .. come to mama.. (Winged monkeys appear) monkey dance WINGED MONKEY: You have called us. What is your command? WITCH: Go to those strangers who are within my land and bring them all to me. WINGED MONKEY: Your commands shall be obeyed. (The winged monkeys fly away to the place where Wai Niang and his friends are walking) (The monkeys catch the Tin Woodgirl, The scarecrow, The Lion and Wai Niang. They lift them and bring them away to the Witchs castle.) TIN WOODMAN: Help, help us! (The wicked witch looks down at Wai Niangs feet. And seeing the green shoes, begins to tremble with fear, for she knows that the shoes are powerful. WITCH: (Talking to herself) hurmm she is an innocent child. she doesnt know about the power the green shoes can give her hahahaha.. im going to make her my slave . Wahahahaha. Come with me, you and your friends will become my slaves. (She calls for the winged monkey) Take the Tin Woodgirl, the Scarecrow and the Lion to the prison. You little girl, come with me to the kitchen. Clean the pots and kettles, sweep the floor and clean the whole kitchen. You know how its hard nowadays to find a good maid. Shooo go now. If you ever try to escape, I will eat you alive. NARRATOR: Wai Niang does his works while the witch tries to think of ways to get the silver shoes. A few days passed and Wai Niang feels so sad. She sneaks out and goes to see his friends in the prison. WAI NIANG: My dear friends. I guess this is the end. We will never get what we want now. TIN WOODGIRL: No, we must be patient. We are all friends. We need to help each other. We must go through this together and shall never leave each other.

SCARECROW: I certainly agree with you . WAI NIANG: Thank you, you are all very kind to me. We will see the great Oz no matter what. (Suddenly the Witch appears) WITCH: Ho ho what do we have here, a reunion of a happy family! You want to see Oz. You can, but you must give me the silver shoes. WAI NIANG: Alright I agree but will you promise me you will release my friends and let us free? WITCH: Haha.. of course of course you can trust the words of a witchI will now release your friends as they have no use to me. (opens the prison cell) (Wai Niang gives her shoes to the witch. But before the witch tries to put on the shoes, the lion snatches the shoes from her hands.) WITCH: You ungrateful beast. I will destroy you! (Trying to cast a spell on the lion) WAI NIANG: No! You promise not to harm us. (Wai Niang is very angry that he picks up a bucket of water near him and dashes it over the witch, wetting her) WITCH: Argggggggggggggggggggggggggggh! See what you have done. You melt me. WAI NIANG: Im sorry .. Im very sorry I didnt know that water will melt you. WITCH: Well in a few minutes I shall be all melted. I never thought a little girl like you would end my wicked deeds. Look out-here I go! (Wai Niang picks up his green shoes and put them on again. She and hes companions cry with joy) TIN WOODGIRL: Lets hurry to the Emerald City WAI NIANG: Lets go and get the brain, the heart, the courage and most importantly get me HOME!! --THE END --
