CHAPTER 1

The Problem and Its Background

Introduction Capillary blood glucose (CBG) involves monitoring blood glucose levels by taking a sample of capillary blood with a fingerprick lancing device and testing it with a glucometer. We observed the inappropriate and incorrect use of lancing devices, and to poor infection prevention and control practices (such as inadequate cleaning of glucometers, vials or surfaces and inadequate hand hygiene and not using a gloves in performing cbg ).And the health care workers should use the reusable lancing devices that are safe to be used by care workers to take capillary samples from patients. Others are designed to be used for self-testing by the patient bec. It can be difficult to distinguish between the reusable lancing devices that can be used by care workers and those that cannot (those designed for patient s own use). This confusion has led to care workers using the wrong type of reusable device, and led to cross infection between patients. Assessing Blood Pressure measuring a client s blood pressure gives you information about health of the cardiovascular and circulation and real system. The potential advantages in a public areas is Increased screening for hypertension in persons without the resources to own a blood
pressure monitor or to see their physician frequentlyI, increased patient involvement in hypertension care and enhanced adherence to therapy. So as the health worker start to get the bp of the client we

observed that the remaining air in the cuff was he doesn t escape it and he repeated it again

but he should wait for 30 to 60 seconds between reading to allow normal circulation to return to limb and Be sure to deflate the cuff completely before attempts to check the blood pressure. The Centro Escolar University nursing students have come up with this study to determine how the health workers perform in a public areas and evaluate their knowledge when it comes to monitoring Blood Pressure and in performing CBG on how they apply the proficiency in application of these guidelines during procedures that involve possible blood or body fluid exposures and how they perform it correctly. And Assess compliance with infection prevention and control recommendations for glucose monitoring (such as hand hygiene and glove changes between patients) by periodically observing personnel and tracking use of supplies.

Background of the study n the past decade nursing becomes an in demand course until there was a sudden increased in number who takes nursing, a lot of nurses here in Philippines goes to abroad especially on America and Europe, because of a high salary. And now there are many registered nurses who dont have their job on their profession. Many graduates of science related course involved their selves in other jobs, the most popular of it is working on a call center, and some goes to barangay health centers, and some are performing basic procedures like monitoring blood pressure in public areas and is paid for a small amount. This study is conducted on selected metro manila malls and public areas. The study is about the efficiency level of health workers in taking capillary blood glucose and blood pressure taking and the health teachings given to their clients over metro manila malls.

The study is concerned of this problem because to be an efficient health worker, it must undergone proper training specifically in the involved procedures. This study is conducted on selected metro manila malls and public areas. Conceptual framework
Communication skills, technical skills, problem-solving skills and leadership skills are essential as well. The ability to read, write, and speak in the language native to the country of practice is usually mandated. The proficiency in the language can impact the level of respect and trust from patients as well as co-workers. Health care is a team effort and each individual needs to be willing to share information and work together to help the patient achieve the best possible wellness and outcomes. At the same time, many aspects of health care are comprised of small segments of care for a spell of illness and therefore many members of the team may not always see the final outcome or receive any recognition for their part. Health care professionals must be decided to always putting forth their best efforts.

Educational attainment Training / seminar attended

Preliminary questionnaire Having interaction with the health care worker Observing the health care worker while performing capillary

The health care worker has the knowledge and skills to perform capillary blood glucose and blood pressure taking.

Statement of the problem The study determines the extent of knowledge of health care workers in performing capillary blood glucose and blood pressure. Specifically it sought answers to the question related to the following aspects of the study. 1. What is the extent of knowledge of health care worker in obtaining blood pressure, capillary blood glucose and in increase blood pressure and capillary blood glucose? 1.1.Educational attainment 1.2.Training / seminar attended 2. What is the extent of compliance of health care worker in performing 2.1.Blood pressure taking 2.2.Capillary blood glucose 3. What are the basis of the respondents in the content regarding increased blood pressure and blood sugar? Assumptions of the Study The researches have assumes that the health care workers in public areas have no difference in health care team in hospitals and clinics in terms of understanding in getting blood pressure, capillary blood glucose monitoring and can give appropriate health teaching and understandings regarding the values for the procedures. Significance of the Study This study aimed to provide further information about the healthcare workers in public areas the scope of their knowledge, skills and their abilities to interpret the standards of the procedure. This study will primarily benefit the following groups of people:

Unemployed Nurses This study will provide evidence and awareness that the unemployed nurses may be encouraged to participate in this system in the future and to render the best care possible to others. Community People They will have the ideas regarding the backgrounds of the health care workers. They will also endure that even the setup is in public areas it is safe and trustworthy. It will also help them evaluate some important things like the costs of the procedure, as its cheaper than in the clinics and hospitals setup and this can be accessible to their place. Future Researchers This study can be useful to research in the future and serve as data. They can be giving some recommendations and improvements. This study will help guarantee them that those people can give accurate results and interpretations and can give appropriate health teachings to others.

Scope, Limitation and Delimitation of the Study The scope of the study was to determine the Level of efficiency of Health Care Workers Posted in Selected Metro Manila Areas in obtaining blood pressure, capillary blood glucose and in conducting health teachings regarding increased BP and blood sugar. Through this study, the researchers will be able to identify the extent of knowledge and compliance of Health Care Workers in performing the step by step procedure of blood pressure and capillary blood glucose test and observing aseptic technique. Researchers have chosen 3 malls in Metro Manila only which include the Ever, Isitan Mall, Sta. Lucia East Grand Mall. Ten respondents were chosen as subject of the study. They are nurses, med tech, and public health care workers.

The study would only provide an analysis on the level of efficiency of the respondents in obtaining blood pressure, capillary blood glucose and in conducting health teachings regarding increased BP and blood sugar.

Definition of Terms

For clear and easy understanding of the study, the following terms are defined operationally:

Compliance -The act of complying with a wish, request, or demand; acquiescence

Glucometer- Is a trademark for a battery-powered instrument used to calculate blood glucose from as little as one drop of blood. Also called blood glucose monitor.

Hypertension.- Is a High blood pressure, defined as a repeatedly elevated blood pressure exceeding 140 over 90 mmHg -- a systolic pressure above 140 with a diastolic pressure above 90.

Lancet- A surgical knife with a short, wide, pointed double-edged blade, used especially for making punctures and small incisions.
