2 A Education as a preparation for work

Nearly everyone will one day have to earn a living by getting a job. Discuss with the Examiner how the education you have had so far (and any further education or training you intend to take) will, in your opinion, prepare you for the world of work. You may wish to consider: subjects you are studying which might help you in a job whether the study habits you have will be useful later on whether some of your subjects seem to have little to do with your intended career whether part-time work while you are still at school or college might be a good idea aspects of school life, apart from subjects you study, that might help you when you work

2 B Climate Change

We are seeing more and more evidence that the weather in many parts of the world is changing sometimes with disastrous results. Discuss with the Examiner possible reasons for these changes and what steps might be taken to deal with the problem. You may wish to consider such things as: what might be causing these changes in climate some examples of disasters caused by these changes steps taken in your country to guard against adverse weather conditions what might be done on a worldwide basis whether climate change might be an advantage in some parts of the world

Most people, particularly young people, regard friendship as very important, and are anxious to have close friends. Discuss with the Examiner your feelings about friendship and your experiences of it. Nowadays, many young people spend some time studying away from their home country. Discuss with the Examiner some of the advantages of studying abroad and some of the difficulties young people might encounter if they do. You may wish to consider such things as: what you might learn from the experience of a different country how study abroad might be an advantage in higher education or employment some of the problems of living and learning in a foreign country difficulties of settling down after a period away from home possible difficulties of leaving your own country and culture

2 E Road accidents and road safety

There are more and more worries about the number of people who are injured in accidents on roads. Discuss with the Examiner some of the causes of road accidents, and how roads could be made safer. You may wish to consider such things as: why accidents happen who are most likely to have accidents pedestrians, cyclists, motorists some consequences of road accidents some steps that might be taken to reduce the number of accidents how the laws in your country might be changed to reduce accidents

Choose one of the topics below and talk about it for a few minutes. The Examiner will ask you some questions when you have finished. You may take a minute or two to write some brief notes before you begin.

There will never be peace in the world while some people are starving.

There is too much theory in education and not enough opportunity actually to do things.

Too many young people nowadays think that money comes very easily. It will be very painful when they learn the truth.
