Danible Alex Danible English 9 25 March 2010 The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet In the tragic tale, The

tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare, two lovers

whos love was never meant to be unfolds as the best tale of two young lovers undying love, and their families unforgiving hate. In this story, Juliets character as a manic, and erotic lover, and Romeos character is simply a manic lover, and his makes them more apt to become tragic heroes. Romeo is a manic lover. Juliet on the other hand is both a manic, and erotic lover. In one of the first conversations Romeo has with Juliet, he is already showing his character as a manic lover. He tells her This love that thou hast shown doth add more grief to much of mine own(1,1,179-180) This is an example of him trying to create a problem in the relationship to intensify feelings between them. He also shows his type of love when he sees her to be seemingly dead in the Capulet tomb. He says later on Depart again. Here, I will remain with worms that are thy chambermaid(5,2,31-32) He clearly thinks that a life without her is not worth living, which is one of the traits of a manic lover according to the Taxonomy of Love. Juliet on the other hand is an erotic lover. She is anxious to get the news of a man she barely even met. When her nurse is late with the news of Romeo she tells her You say to me that thou art out of breath? The excuse that thou dost make in this delay(2,5,31-32) She is already in love with him and constantly has him on her mind, which is an example of a manic lover. She also relates the traits of a manic lover in the famous balcony scene. She tells Romeo If that thy vent of love be honorable, thy purpose marriage, send me word tomorrow (2,5,143144) She hasnt even known Romeo for a full day and she already wants to get married. She is

Danible seeking to be in a quick marriage, which is defined as an erotic lover according to the Taxonomy of Love. There are many forms of love. Juliet was a manic, and erotic lover, while her love was a manic lover. This has all been supported by the words of Romeo and Juliet themselves. Romeo time and time again showed himself as a manic lover throughout the events of this play. Juliet had the traits of two types of love that she portrayed through the play and in my evidence. In the end I guess you can say that they were both erotic lovers, because according to the Taxonomy

of Love erotic lovers idealize about their love a lot, and that is often the downfall of this type of love. Our two tragic heroes definitely idealized about love a lot, and this was ultimately their downfall.
