A Guide to Western Adventure Park Connector Network (WAPCN) Cycling Trail

If you enjoy cycling leisurely in the great outdoors and living it up in the west, embark on this 20km trail on the Western Adventure Park Connector Network (WAPCN). This cycling trail takes you to eight parks in western Singapore, where a multitude of activities await you. If you crave for adventure, go mountain biking at Zhenghua Park and Dairy Farm Nature Park, or engage in rock climbing at Dairy Farm Quarry. To gain an insight into Singapore's history during the Japanese Occupation, visit the Old Ford factory near Hillview Park Connector. Bukit Panjang Park Connector, Zhenghua Park and Bukit Batok Nature Park are excellent places for bird watching and photography. The stretch along Pang Sua Park Connector is particularly good for butterfly spotting. You can find an amazing array of biodiversity on this trail. The 550 species of trees planted at various stretches attract a variety of wildlife. To date, 50 species of birds have been sighted on the WAPCN. As this loop comprises both city and forested trails, it is best that you ride on an all-terrain or mountain bike.

Chua Chu Kang Park

Though you can start off anywhere on this loop trail, we recommend you use Choa Chu Kang Park as your starting point and base. Here, public transport, a car park and toilet facilities are a stones throw away. You can also easily grab a bite or stock up on your energy needs at the food centre nearly.

Don't miss the newest attraction here - a community-based self-sustainable butterfly garden showcasing 16 butterfly species. Stop at this charming garden and have a fun time spotting some, if not all, species.

Ten Mile Junction

The distance between this building and South Bridge Road is exactly 10 miles, and hence, its name Ten Mile Junction. This is a convenient stop point to refuel or stock up on supplies.

Limbang Park
One highlight of this park is a mini zoo a collection of 12 Chinese Zodiac animal statues. Play a game and see if you can remember the order of the 12 animals.

Bukit Panjang PC
Enjoy the sights and sounds on Bukit Panjang Park Connector as you cycle to Zhenghua Park. If you are hungry, visit Bukit Panjang Plaza nearby. The Plazas wide array of eateries promoting different cuisines will definitely tantalize your tastebuds.

Pangsua PC
Pang Sua means weighing sand in Hokkien. In the early 1900s, there were several lorries transporting sand from place to place. Lorries suspected of carrying more than the stipulated weight were escorted by local authorities to this area for a weight test, and hence the name Pang Sua. While cycling on this park connector, do look out for the rich diversity of wildlife that may cross your path - the occasional soaring osprey, ambling monitor lizards and fluttering butterflies. Listen out for the whistling sounds of the railway trains on this stretch of the trail.

Zhenghua Park
Enjoy a 'roller-coaster' ride as you travel on the undulating terrain of this park. This part of the trail offers you a view of two contrasting landscapes the forests of the central nature reserve on one side, and urban development on the other.

Dairy Farm Nature Park

continue on the next leg of the PCN that takes you through Bukit Batok estate.

This park is home to an amazing array of flora and fauna. Keep a sharp lookout for birds, butterflies, dragonflies, changeable lizards and other critters along this charming rustic stretch. If you are a hard-core cycling enthusiast, the park is the perfect place to hone your cycling skills. Make a detour and embark on one of the various challenging biking trails that are found within the Bukit Timah nature reserve. Do follow the visitors guidelines stipulated at the reserve. Do spend some time at the Wallace Education Centre. Here, learn about the changing landscapes of this region, or follow the well-marked trail that leads to a historic, abandoned quarry mine - the Singapore Quarry. At the quarry, see if you can spot rare endemic dragonflies, damselflies, beetles, fishes and birds, such as the kingfisher and the endangered Little Grebe.

Bukit Batok Nature Park and Bukit Batok Town Park (Xiao Guilin)

Cycle along Hillview Park Connector to visit two parks that are famous for scenic views of a quarry lake. The view of towering rock cliffs providing a majestic backdrop to the large lake is reminiscent of Guilin of China. At Bukit Batok Nature Park, take the nature trail that meanders through a well-established secondary forest. Look out for interesting trees along the trail, and make the ascent to the top of the hill where a war memorial lies.

Choa Chu Kang PC

Rail Mall

This park connector takes you through the public housing residential area. Proceed southwards towards Brickland and Choa Chu Kang Park Connectors to get back to the starting point of this trail. On this last leg of the trail, look out for the avenue of star fruit trees along Brickland Park Connector and the manicured butterfly gardens at Choa Chu Kang Park Connector.
