Lab1: Evaluating Internet connection Choices for a Small Home PC Network

Advance Scenario1 To demonstrate the performance of WAN data rate from the lab sheet we run the simulation at 8Mbps and 24Mbps, to see the WAN data rate result, HTTP page responce time on PC2 Researcher is in fig1 upload utilization in time average. Table1 Table1 Connection Download Upload Speed Utilization Utilization 8Mbps 0.200 0.006 24Mbps 0.065 0.001 Recommendation: Comparing the results and cost, it show us to use 8Mbps for the family is beneficial as 8Mbps and 24Mbps not showing much difference for the family due to current network require usage. Furthermore 8Mbps is offering all the feature and requirement that family needs. Advance Scenario3 As show in the fig3 we use 24Mbps and 75,700Kbps (73.9Mbps) to get required 1 second response time from PC2 Researcher.

Fig1.Comparing 8Mbps and 24Mbps Connection

It Show the response time on PC2 researcher 0.0150 using 8Mbps. Using 24Mbps is 0.0100 which is faster than 8Mbps. On the side Analysis on 8Mpbs and 24Mpbs by changing statistics from As In to Average time . Similar result shows with download utilization and upload utilization of 8Mbs and 24Mps in fig2.

Fig3.One second response time using 24Mbps and 75700kbps

Advance Scenario2, 4 when streaming start the IP traffic flow between PC1 web browser and music server, It generate different results, the table2 show the different values of the result by changing the demand objects settings. The result are showing in fig4.

Module: Wired and Wireless CO4506 sent out the interface can handle at given interval (1). (2) The throughput as the quantity of error free data that is transmitted per unit of time. Throughput increase as offered load increase, up to maximum the full capacity of network shown in the fig5. Advance Scenario 5 The traffic get load on the network. And the response time on PC2 Researcher will increase. It really matter what Data WAN speed we are using from 8Mbps to 28Mbps is not showing significant result on HTTP response. Challenge1 Application Configuration Heavier application traffic is generated for this network topology, changing the attributes of each terminal from application parameters. Table3 show the change of attributes from application parameters. Table3 Application Parameters Attributes PC2 Researcher Macintosh Game Player PC1 Macintosh Game Player Value Web Browsing (Heavy) File Transfer (Load) High Resolution Video Type HTTP (Image Browsing) FTP (High Load) Video Conferencing (VCR Quality Video)

study show the PC2 Research, web application response using 8Mb is better. To better understand once again we change statistical view As In to time average . When the continuous streaming started on both sides, it affects the client HTTP page response on PC2 Research. There is indication (as show in fig4) when streaming started it consume 80% of bandwidth this is the reason to slow down the other user on network.

Fig5. Show queuing delay/Throughput As the network traffic is getting load on WAN. Packet are held in queue because of the congestion on an outbound interface, the result is queuing delay as show in fig5, queuing delay occurs when more packets are Student Name: Shearz Salim

Challenge Advance Scenarios1. In this challenge using different application rates show different result then previous. Once the application parameters are define in application definition and running 8Mbps/24Mbps speed. To get a better understand we shall look at the PC1 Researcher page response time result. The Fig6 shows as hungry application need more bandwidth as each application date rate is define higher. As 8Mbps take 0.07 second compare to 0.05 second of 24Mbps. Recommendation The recommendation will be higher 24Mb

Challenge Advance Scenario 2, 4 changing the demand object of PC1 web browser and music server the result shows a significant result. As the rate of application download data will increase the bandwidth will be increase. Due to the streaming between music server and PC1 the other network user get effect on their speed to access on WAN. As we use the same parameters of as we did in previous results below table5 shows the value used in Scenario and fig9 showing the statically graph. 4 the graph shows the effect on PC2 research http page response time using the 8Mps and 24 Mbps connection. However doing the comparison we change graph statically As In to Average time analysis on both connections is not making a huge difference. PC Research will take long time to download HTTP application time for first 3 hours. This is not good. However as on PC1 web browser the music streaming is running and that consumes a lot of network bandwidth. On the other side Throughput and queuing delay are shown in fig10

Module: Wired and Wireless CO4506 want normal usage then recommendation will be 8Mbps. Conclusion The first OPNET lab gives a view of simulation network. The lab sheet teaches how to analysis the performance of the network. Implementing and design a network and finding out where the latency faults occur. The software gives us a better view of understanding in real world networking scenarios. There is a great future prospective of using this software to analysing network traffic. The opnet it guru give a edge into networking world with a new ideas and huge vendor equipment to play with to analyse the network traffic no matter its WAN, LAN or Satellite.

Fig10 Throughput and queuing delay Challenge Advance Scenario 5 Adding more PC on network will consumer bandwidth and each application will get limited resources as there is heavy application running on the network. HTTP page response time will increase. Recommendation of All Scenarios In this lab we use different scenarios where we use 8Mbps and 24Mbps. To give a recommendation to a family we have to look at the different aspect of the network. As we generate heavy application on network to find out the usage of network. It depends on future how user will use the internet. If they want to download higher application (Music, Gaming online, Heavy Browsing) than recommending will be using a 24Mbps, if user Student Name: Shearz Salim Reference 1. 1.
