Sir Charles Chaplin, a tribute to a genius

Sir Charles Spencer Chaplin was born in London on April 16th, 1889. He was better known as Charlie Chaplin. He was an actor, director, producer, writer and composer. His mother was Hannah Smith and she was an actress, too. His father died some years after he was born. His family lived in a very poor condition, so he had to start working when he was 5 years old. His first movie was Making a living in 1914. Then, from the second movie until the last one he was recognized as the typical tramp who wanted to change his life for a better one, find love and live in peace with others. His best movies were: The tramp, The Kid, The circus, Modern times, The great dictator, City lights and Limelight. He almost acted in more than 90 movies and, with that fact, he was one of the most important actors in The History of Film. As a curiosity, he only received 1 Oscar in all his life as an actor. The Academy reconsidered it and they gave him a honorary Oscar in 1972 for all his great movies he had done in his life, and in that ceremony he got the longest standing ovation ever in the history of Oscar. People stood up and applauded him for more than 5 minutes. He died on December 25th, 1977 , when he was 88 years old in Switzerland.

A fantastic hotel
Last summer, my wife and I went to Las Vegas for a week. We stayed with our friends, Jimmy and Diane, for the first five days, but we stayed at a very special hotel on the Saturday and Sunday nights at the end of our holiday. We booked a suite at the Venetian Resort Hotel on the Las Vegas strip. The Venetian is modern, luxurious, and very big! There are 7,000 rooms and suites in the hotel and in our suite there were three TVs one in the bedroom, one in the living room, and one in the bathroom. You can find everything at the Venetian. Its a small town! There is a casino in the hotel and there are 17 restaurants. On our first night there, we ate at the Bouchon restaurant. It was fantastic, but it was very expensive! We didnt go to the casino on Saturday night because we didnt have any money after we had dinner! The hotel is really brilliant! There is a small lake near the entrance, and on the fourth floor there are three swimming pools and a spa. We didnt go swimming but my wife loved the spa. On the second floor, there is a big shopping centre with canals and gondolas. We went on a gondola. I thought I was in Venice! There are a lot of things to do at the Venetian. You can visit a Madame Tussauds Wax Museum with statues of famous Hollywood actors. Or you can go to the fantastic nightclub or to one of the theatres. There are three of them! We werent interested in visiting the wax museum and we didnt go dancing, but on Sunday evening we saw a great show at the Blue Man Theatre, and we went to an art exhibition at the hotels art gallery.
