Cisco Catalyst 2960 Switches Product Overview The Cisco Catalyst 2960 Series Switches are fixed-configuration switches offering Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet connectivity with intelligent LAN services for entry-level enterprise, mid-market, and branch-office networks. The Catalyst 2960 Switches with the enhanced Layer 2+ LAN Base IOS software deliver enhanced integrated security, quality of service (QoS), and availability to enable new converged applications. The Catalyst 2960 Switches with the standard Layer 2 LAN Lite IOS software simplify the migration from non-intelligent hubs and unmanaged switches to a fully scalable and reliable network. The LAN Lite IOS provides entry-level security, QoS, and availability with a focus on ease-of-use and lower total cost of ownership. The Switches also provides easy network configuration, upgrades, and troubleshooting using Cisco Network Assistant (CNA) software. Later, we will describe CNA and its embedded Cisco Smartports. (Cisco Smartports, embedded in Cisco Network Assistant 2.0, is a PC-based network management application designed for small and medium-sized business (SMB) networks with up to 250 users. 2960 is one of the first switches to support counterfeit prevention, IOS License Enforcement Test (ILET) ILET works by validating the signature in the FLASH ILET is run after POST, when a switch fails ILET:

Cisco Network Assistant (CNA) is a PC-based network-management application optimized for LANs with up to 250 users. Cisco Network Assistant offers centralized management of Cisco switches, routers, and WLAN access points. With Smartports Advisor, the switches automatically discover connected Cisco devices and suggests appropriate Smartports roles. Embedded in CNA, Cisco Smartports is a PC-based network management application which is designed to save time for network administrators, reduce human errors, and help ensure that the configuration of the switch is optimized for these applications. Through an intuitive GUI on CNA where users can see the switch front panel view and apply common services such as configuration management, inventory reports, password synchronization, and drag-and-drop Cisco IOS Software upgrades across Cisco SMBclass switches, routers, and access points. Cisco Smartports, embedded in Cisco CNA, can be used in Cisco Catalyst 2960. It is a PC-based network management application. There are many benefits of using Smartports. It allows deployment of complicated features quickly, and it has a mixture of features that represents best practices. Smarports provides fast convergence, less error-prone configurations when using templates, and avoids unintended loops. Smartports also gives you a visual knowledge of what is connected to your network and who is connected to your network.
