Chinese cumulated steel consumption per capita is only 15% of that of industrialized countries
Cumulated steel consumption, 1948 to 2008, per 2008 capita (cumulated tonnes per capita, including net cumulated imports)
30

25

Cumulated steel consumption is an indicator of the development of modern infrastructures in a country. The data suggest that China has accomplished one fifth of the way towards a modern infrastructure. China is developing at a fast pace, and is focused on overtaking developed countries. That is the reason for such a high consumption of raw materials, which should keep rising.
