 What is a computer?
 a system and its purpose is to turn unprocessed data into usable information  a machine that can be programmed to accept data(input), process it into useful information(output), and store it away(in a secondary storage device) for safekeeping or later use  an electronic device that can read, store, process and interpret data

 What are the capabilities of the computer?

 Speed
Computers can process data faster than any machine designed for the same purpose.

Reliability

Computers are extremely reliable, most errors supposedly made by computers are really a person s mistakes.

Storage capability

Computer systems can store tremendous amount of data efficiently sorting, finding, and retrieving at lightning speed. The capability to store volumes of data is especially important in the Information Age.

 What are the advantages of computer?

o o o helps people perform different tasks We can communicate with our loved ones who are very far away from us. It can help architectures whose uses computer animated graphics to experiment with possible exteriors, to give clients a visual walk-through of proposed buildings, and to subject buildings to hypothetical earthquakes. It can be a help for medicine like brain-scan computers that produce color-enhanced maps to help diagnose mental illness. It can be help for the energy companies to locate oil, coal, natural gas, and uranium. helps people send a message by sending e-mail instead of writing a letter on stationery and mailing it in the post office They can do more jobs than an ordinary/expert worker can do with greater accuracy. They do not need breaks or vacation and do not get bored doing the same thing every day unlike the people. It can process data faster than an machine designed for the same purpose.

 What are the disadvantages of computer?

o o Expose some sensitive information to kids, waste of time and distraction because of unnecessary contents. Some people think we are becoming deskilled - forgetting how to do simple things like mental arithmetic, and also the availability of so much knowledge doesn't necessarily mean that we, individually, know more. It is possible to cause damage to the eyesight. It can also give false information at times. Some would get addicted on playing games. Some people using computers to get some victims through offering something but at last it s all a lie. Use of computer results into unemployment as computer can perform the duty that might need nearly six to seven workers. Unemployment is likely to result into crimes. Continuous work with computer causes loss of eyesight in the long run. Internet, which is widely used to see pornographic scenes, corrupts the mind of teenagers.

 What are the computer limitations?

 It cannot generate information on its own.

While we say that the computer processes data independently, it still needs a man to create a program for it.

It cannot correct wrong instructions.

Sure they can tell us about our syntax errors, but still you need to enter or type the correct instructions. Also, they cannot determine logical errors.

A computer is dependent on prepared instructions.

Although the computer has a logical ability to choose alternative paths, such choices are limited to the given instructions prepared by the programmer.

A computer has no capability to derive meanings from objects.

So, a computer application must be quantified. A computer cannot evaluate whether an applicant is qualified to be hired by the company, if he will be described as loyal, hardworking, and intelligent. We have to use a program simulation that sets standards of the mental, emotional, and experiences need to be qualified as the new employee for a certain position. Because of this simulation, the computer will evaluate if the given data come close to the qualifications need to hire an employee to a given position.
