Y EAR 3 VISIT

TO T H E

S CIENCE M USEUM

On Thursday 5th January, Year 3 visited the Science Museum in London. The purpose of the visit was to help them understand the range of materials we use in everyday life and how they are suited to their purpose. They found out why different materials are used when producing clothing, what materials are found in the home and how some materials are used to replace parts of the body. They also explored the importance of recycling and reusing materials. This is the first time that this year group has had the opportunity to use public transport on a trip and their behaviour was exceptional. So well done to Year 3 and many thanks to Miss Wilson and Miss Whennell for organising the day and for the teaching assistants and parents who helped.

Brampton Primary is a restorative school where the initial response to conflict is to find a solution where things are put right, the victims needs are met whilst also meeting the needs of the wrong doer and meet all the schools responsibilities.

Riot, Rebellion, Revolution Brampton School will be holding a History event in the week commencing 23rd January on the theme of Riot, Rebellion and Revolution. The main focus will be a day on an event in history suited to each year group followed by a TASC (Thinking Actively in a Social Context) day. This takes the form of a problem solving approach for example If you ruled the school for a day, what would you do? or What makes an effective protest? Possible teaching ideas are the French Revolution; Indian independence; Revolt of Boudicca; Joan of Arc; Fall of the Berlin Wall and English Civil War. Teachers will be making plans to suit their class and there will be further information available from them. The activities could have a strong citizenship theme, looking at current issues such as how do we protest but in a historical context. We look forward to seeing how this develops.
