In California, Mercury employs over 1,000 workers, nearly half of whom are part of the auto insurance underwriting staff, working in offices throughout the state. The company sells its policies through a network of independent agents and brokers. National Standardization Project Coordinator 2007 - 2008 Appointed to single-handedly pioneer the design, construction, and maintenance of intranet portals containing Underwriting procedures, tutorials, and reference materials to be used by Underwriting staff across the nation. Also given authority to act as an advisor to the Underwriting managers from the different states on the training, usage, and implementation of their portals. *Having no formal website construction training, self-taught the use of design software such as Photoshop, Dreamweaver, and HTML coding. *From the start of the initial California project to its final rollout, the site was conceptualized, designed, and built more than three months prior to deadline. *The success of California's portal prompted an accelerated rollout to nine other states merely weeks after the its initial release and months ahead of schedule.
