COUNTABLE AND UNCOUNTABLE NOUNS

Countable nouns can be counted and have both a singular and a plural form. We can use a /an, one in the singular form and some, any or numbers in the plural form. A table Some tables an apple I dont have any brothers here one soda two sodas

Uncountable nouns only have a singular form and we cannot count them. We dont use a / an or numbers before uncountable nouns but we often use some (in affirmative statements) and any (in negative and interrogative sentences) A: is there any orange juice? B: No, but theres some milk.

SOME /ANY
 We use some with uncountable and countable nouns in affirmative sentences and questions (offer). y y There are some carrots in the refrigerator. Would you like some tea?

 We use any with uncountable and countable nouns in questions and negatives sentences. y y Is there any milk in the refrigerator? There arent any apples in the refrigerator.

HOW MUCH? / HOW MANY?


We use How much? With uncountable nouns to ask about the quantify of something. y How much milk is there?

We use How many? With countable nouns to ask about the number of something. y How many cans of lemonade do we need?

Note: We also use How much ? To ask about the cost or price of something. How much are these shoes? $80.

MUCH / MANY / A LOT OF / LOTS OF We use much with uncountable nouns, in questions and negative sentences.  We dont have much money. We use many with plural nouns, usually in questions, affirmative and in negative sentences.  There arent many books in the book case. We use a lot of / lots of with uncountable and countable nouns, usually in affirmative sentences.  There is a lot of coffee in my cup.  There are lots of apples in the refrigerator.

SOME / ANY SOME:


Unos; unas, algunos, algunas, algo de.

ANY: Alguno, a (s); ninguno; ninguno, a (s).


La diferencia gramatical entre estas dos palabras es que SOME se usa en oraciones afirmativas y ANY en oraciones negativas e interrogativas generalmente. En ingles se emplean estas palabras antes de sustantivos contables (sustantivos en plural) y no contables usados en un sentido indefinido. En la mayora de los casos, estas palabras no se traducen al espaol; sin embargo, deben escribirse dentro de una oracin. RECUERDA: SOME (para oraciones afirmativas)

ANY (para oraciones negativas o interrogativas) Ej.


There is not any book in your schoolbag = No hay ningun libro en tu mochila. I dont have any brothers in my school = No tengo ningunos hermanos en mi escuela Is there any factory in your community? = Hay alguna fabrica en tu comunidad?

Do you need any money? = Necesitas dinero?
