Keeping integrated supply chains on track

We are rail planners, designers, project managers and technical specialists driven to deliver innovative infrastructure solutions across your entire supply chain.

This page: Freeport Mine Underground and Surface Railway Freeport, Indonesia We highlighted potential efficiency improvements at the West Papua mine in our case study for the construction of an 18-kilometre underground railway and terminals.

AECOM

At AECOM in Australia and New Zealand, we are a leader in the planning, design and program management of freightrail infrastructure. Our experience in designing rail-based coal and iron-ore freight systems, major freight railways and inter-modal terminals for containerised-freight transport systems helps our clients meet the challenges of the local and global freight markets.

We deliver all phases of freight-rail infrastructure projects, from planning and approvals to design, project and construction management, and procurement, providing our clients with an integrated suite of services: rail alignment and optimisation feasibility studies alignment, civil works and structures environmental planning and approvals carbon footprint and sustainability strategies safety management and risk management operations planning, modelling and simulation intelligent transport systems geotechnical, hydrology and earthworks bridges and drainage structures tunnels and trackwork signalling and communication systems overhead electrical traction system and power supply rolling stock stations, yards and platforms level crossings and access roads fuelling, maintenance and stabling facilities intermodal facilities loading and unloading facilities (bulk and container traffic) - asset management and benchmarking - supply-chain management (for example, mine, rail and port) - rail management support services.

Cover: Moura Passing Loop Extensions Queensland, Australia Our track alignment, earthworks, drainage, access roads, relocation and fencing services helped increase capacity through the operation of longer trains. Above: Connors Range Coal Rail Corridor Queensland, Australia We completed design work and an Environmental Planning Study (EPS), minimising the environmental impact on the corridor.

Above: Moura System Track Infrastructure Upgrade Queensland, Australia We completed environmental assessments and preliminary and detailed engineering design to progress a track upgrade between Banana and Stirrat.

Partnering with clients from a variety of transportation sectors in Australia, New Zealand and around the world, we draw on AECOMs broad network of mining, environmental, planning, engineering, procurement and project-management specialists to help deliver freightrail projects within time, cost and quality parameters. We provide fully integrated supply-chain solutions from mine to port, including train loaders and unloaders, materials-handling infrastructure, stockpile management, and related ports and marine infrastructure. From feasibility studies and masterplanning through to economics, financial planning and logistics, our planning and advisory specialists draw on our knowledge of intelligent transport systems to help our clients develop and operate freight-rail systems efficiently and effectively. We build sustainability into our planning and design process to manage any environmental impacts of a project from its conception, conducting carbon-footprint assessments, environmental impact statements, and approvals and sustainability strategies for clients across every sector.

AECOM

Blackwater Coal System Line Duplications Queensland, Australia We helped increase line carrying capacity through designing duplicated sections of coal rail infrastructure and providing track alignment, civil earthworks, drainage and detailed hydrological assessment services. Enfield Intermodal Logistics Centre (ILC) New South Wales, Australia AECOM delivered hydraulic and hydrologic site assessment, rail and road design, and stormwater drainage and bulk earthworks modelling to support all aspects of civil infrastructure design for the new 60-hectare ILC. Vale Rail Infrastructure Queensland, Australia AECOM designed the Carborough Downs Balloon Loop and the Plains Loop both five kilometres in length to support the growth of the Vale Isaac Plains, Broadlea North and Carborough Downs coal mines. Winchester to Peak Downs Duplication Queensland, Australia AECOM undertook the planning and design and completed rail, environmental and road works studies to develop this 10-kilometre coal-rail duplication, which includes a grade-separated structure with a main road.
Above: North Coast Rail Improvement Program New South Wales, Australia AECOM helped deliver track and civil works to increase the competitiveness and market share of rail transportation in the region.

Surat Basin Rail Project Queensland, Australia In delivering the Southern Missing Link rail line in Central Queensland, AECOM undertook a comprehensive pre-feasibility investigation and environmental impact statement, enabling the transportation of coal and freight from parts of Central Queensland to Gladstone and Brisbane. Karara to Tilley Dual Gauge Railway Western Australia, Australia As a result of AECOMs design work, hydrological analysis and geographical investigation, this iron-ore project promises to be a significant driver for regional growth and economic expansion.
