4 To perform a basic criteria pump search 1. Enter values for Flow, Total Dynamic Head, Cycles and (optionally) NPSHa. 2. In the Models and Speeds boxes, select the models and speeds you want to search. You must choose at least one model and speed to perform a criteria search. Tip For faster searches; limit the number of chosen models & speeds. 3. Click Search2. The list of matching pumps will be shown on the Selection screen. 4 To correct for viscosity By default, pump performance is based on Water at 70o F. 1. In Liquid Properties, enter values for Temperature, Specific Gravity and Viscosity. 2. Click Search2. To view the viscous curve, go to Curves and click Line. 4 To warn if specified conditions are violated1 % Headrise to Shut-Off highlight pumps with a % Headrise to Shut-Off less than min, and/or more than to max. Nss less than - highlight pumps that exceed this NSS value. Operating Point to be % BEP - highlight pumps with %BEP less than min, and/or more than to max. Click Search2.
1 These criteria are checked against each pump on the selection list and display a warning message if any of the specified conditions are violated. Completing this section does not limit your search or prevent you from selecting a pump.
4 Enter more advanced information relative to your requirements 1. Based on your particular application or service, complete the Solids, Pulp & Paper, and/or Vertical Services sections1. 2. Click Search.2 4 Additional Design Points 1. Click Add in the Additional Design Points section of the screen. 2. Double-click Flow Value, enter a flow value and press [Enter]. 3. Double-click on Flow Value, enter a flow value and press [Enter]. Double-click on Head Value, enter a head value and press [Enter]. Tip To define a System Resistance Curve you must define at least 2 Flow-Head points (use 2 points for a parabolic curve, or 3+ points to draw more complex curves).
Clicking Search deletes the current selection list and starts a new pump search.
Figure 1 Common Pump & Tank Systems 2. If Tank is chosen, the labels in the left-hand column will sharpen and those in the right-hand column will be dimmed. The next step is to select Tank Type. The two choices are Open and Closed. Select Open if the tank is open to the atmosphere and Closed if the tank is sealed with an internal pressure applied.
3. If Suction Gage Pressure is chosen, the labels in the right-hand column will sharpen and those in the left-hand column will be dimmed. In the field Vapor Press, enter the vapor pressure of the fluid, in units of absolute pressure. In the field Suction Press, enter the suction pressure gage reading. The gage reading must be corrected for elevation difference between the gage and the pump impeller centerline. The gage should be located in the suction line close to the pump suction flange. If the next field, Velocity Head, is used, the value is in absolute pressure units. This is the velocity head in the suction pipe. If you dont know what this value is, you can leave this field blank and use the next two fields to enter the Flow Rate and Suction Size, and PSS will calculate the velocity head for use in the NPSH calculation. The Suction Size is the suction pipe inside diameter at the location of the suction pressure gage, measured as accurately as possible.
Enter the information that is appropriate for your application. Then, click Curves, to view/print the selected curves, or click Search to start a new search2. 4 To obtain a Priced Pump Quotation Contact your nearest ITT Goulds sales office or representative. The Curves screen allows you to analyze, compare and print the selected performance curve(s). The Curves screen has four tabs: CDS Displays the primary and water equivalent performance curves. Line Displays the single-line and viscous performance curves. Use the Line tab to adjust pump speed and impeller diameters and to graph pumps individually, in series or in parallel. Info Compares selected pumps side-by-side and provides detailed product information. View Controls which curve elements (System Curves, etc.) are displayed.
Tip PSS uses both digital data and scanned performance curves. See Differences Between Digital Data and Scanned Performance Curves for details.
3 This option is available for digitized curves only. This option is not available if Scanned Image displays in the curve thumbnail, or if Not Available displays in the main Line curve window.
4 To adjust the configuration of multistage pumps Single-line performance curves for multi-stage pumps can be modified to reflect the effect of various impeller optimization configurations. Initially, an average impeller diameter is calculated for all stages. You can further reduce manufacturing costs while optimizing performance by using the maximum impeller diameter for some stages. 1. From the Line tab, click Modify. 2. Click +/- Stage(s) 3. Use Add/Remove to change the number of stages (the minimum and maximum number of stages varies by pump model). 4. Choose the desired configuration (impeller diameter of each stage) using the check boxes, and click OK to view the results.
4 To view detailed product information and compare pumps side-by-side 1. Click the Info tab. Product information is displayed in columns (one for each selected pump) so you can compare pumps side-by-side. Use the scroll bars to view additional information about each pump. 4 Printing performance curves Printed curves use Adobe PDF technology for improved image quality (requires the FREE Adobe Acrobat Reader 5). Besides printing, you can now send curves by e-mail, fax, or save them to your local hard drive or network drive. You can even cut-and-paste curves into programs like Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, or Excel for use in proposals or presentations! 1. Click the CDS tab to print the CDS curve or click the Line tab to print the single-line curve. 2. Use the Preferences screen to change the printed curve format (US or European-ISO), language and other print settings. 3. Click Print to preview the printed curve.
