Spreader and mast information

The latest Hyster spreader offers a choice of three Container Engagement Systems: 1. Vertical Twistlocks - A 'top-engagement' type system. 2. Suspended Hooks - A 'side-entry' engagement system, using a very simple configuration. 3. Double Horizontal Twistlocks - A really unique engagement system, for handling one or two containers. This is a side-entry' type system, with full indicator and lock-out functions. The new spreader includes a number of new features: The truck capacity is up to 9 000 kg @ 1 220 mm load centre, depending on the type of tyres fitted. This high capacity is particularly useful in applications where two (aluminium reefer) containers, with weights of 4 200 to 4 400 kg each, need to be handled. Mast back-tilt is a generous 4 degrees, for additional machine versatility. Ample spreader 'Pile Slope' - this mechanical, free sideways articulation movement of the spreader (in its base carriage and by the 150 mm floating heads) is a generous +/- 4 degrees, not only for 20' but also in the 40' position. A mast over-lowering interrupt is standard equipment and prevents further lowering of the mast when the spreader is landed on a container, in order to protect the header hoses, cables and lift-chains. The function is signalled by a blue warning light in the cab. (Not applicable to 'Suspended Hooks' engagement system). Lift interrupt is standard equipment and interrupts the lift mode if the twistlocks are not in a fully locked/unlocked position. The function is signalled by a blue warning light in the cab. (Not applicable to 'Suspended Hooks' engagement system). Mechanical interlock (Not applicable to 'Suspended Hooks' system). Mechanically locks the twistlocks unless the landing pins are properly pushed in. Indicator lights, to signal spreader engagement, follow a '3-Colour, 4-lights' layout, as follows (Not applicable to 'Suspended Hooks' engagement system): Green (locked), Red (unlocked), Amber left-hand (landed), Amber right-hand (landed). Two sets of indicator lights are fitted: one set of 4 lights on the left-hand side spreader, plus one set of 4 lights in the cab. The cab light panel also includes the blue light signalling the lift interrupt function. An audible signal to indicate locked will be heard inside the cab. (Not applicable to the 'Suspended Hooks' engagement system). Signal sounds intermittently when the twistlocks are turned into the locked position. This signal can be turned off. Counter on twistlocks locking. (Not applicable to the 'Suspended Hooks' engagement system) helps to measure productivity and schedule periodic maintenance. Automatic locking (Only applicable to the 'Vertical Twistlocks' system) automatically turns the twistlocks to the locked position when the spreader is properly landed on the container. This function can be turned off if desired. Unlocking is always done manually. Sideshift movement is either +/- 350 mm (700 mm total -not suitable as reefer correction) or +/- 600 mm (1 200 mm total - provides for reefer correction). This depends on the selected model, tyres and spreader engagement system. (See Mast table). Low profile spreader for good forward visibility, but in particular for excellent visibility of the spreader's engagement points, when at high lift heights, especially when in the 20' spreader position. Two worklights on the spreader, angled towards the engagement heads. Lights move in and out with the telescopic beams, thus always provide light at the engagement points. The unique features of the Double Horizontal Twistlocks engagement system are: The second (top) container is also locked No sideways protrusion of the engagement system, so container rows do not need to be spaced apart, resulting in better space utilisation at the container terminal. Twistlocks can engage onto (two) somewhat misaligned containers. This is achieved on both forwards and backwards misalignment (thanks to the unique floating spring-loaded upper pair of twistlocks), as well as from left to right (by a sideways floatation of the twistlocks and by using the sideshift movement on the engaged top twistlocks pair). A double set of 3 lights - amber-red-green - instead of the 3-Colour, 4-lights' layout - one set of lights is positioned on the left-hand side and one set of 3 lights on right-hand side of the spreader. The in cab light panel is the same as for the other twistlock engagement systems.

Mast and capacity information

Masts Ultra-wide mast construction, for torsional rigidity and also excellent visibility (distance 1 260 mm in between the inner mast channels). This stable and ultra-wide 'Vista' 2-stage mast has a unique '1 to 4 ' lift ratio. With very high lift heights, as on these trucks, the Hyster '1 to 4' design results in halving the length of the lift cylinders, thereby offering excellent durability of the cylinder bearings and seals. The tilt cylinders are high-mounted on the mast for added stability. Transmission ZF 3WG-201, 3-speed 'countershaft' powershift transmission with automatic gear shifting system and a forward-reverse shifting lock-out protection, large oil cooler and a 10 micron oil filter. Brakes Service brake: Front, wet disc brakes with large oil cooler and a separate 10 micron oil filter. The brake system is fully hydraulic and charged by an accumulator (no air system). Parking brake: Spring actuated and hydraulically released, on the drive-line, automatically applied when pressure falls below 50 bar. The transmission is disengaged when parking brake is applied. Hydraulic system Tandem gear pumps with 260 l/min. output at full rated load. A load-sensing priority valve diverts only the required amount of oil for steering; the remaining oil joins the lift flow. Power-assisted hand controls use a separate pilot pump supply. Two full-time, full flow, 25 micron, return-line hydraulic filters are easily accessible in the hydraulic tank. Equipped with 3 auxiliary hydraulic functions for sideshift, 20'-40' extension and engagement of the spreader. Electrical system 24 Volt, 50 Amp alternator, dustproof starter, battery master switch.

Wheels The following tyre sizes are available (see also Mast table): 12,00 x 24, 12,00R24, 48.5-14,00 x 24 or 14,00 x 24 or 14,00R24. A hydraulic accumulator on the hoist system is available from Hyster, which cushions shocks caused by vertical movement of spreader and container(s) and is recommended for trucks fitted with pneumatic tyres. A hydraulic accumulator is mandatory for a truck with solid (pneumatic shaped) tyres. Lights A complete light kit is fitted: 4 front working lights and 2 rear working lights mounted on the cab, 2 head lights on the front fenders, 4 direction indicator lights, 2 tail and stop lights, and 2 reversing lights. Orange flashing beacon mounted on the cab. The 2 floodlights mounted directly on the spreader form a practical addition to the comprehensive lights group on the machine. Instruments/accessories: Warning lights Engine oil pressure, transmission oil pressure, transmission oil temperature, battery discharge indicator, low brake oil pressure, parking brake on. Gauges Engine coolant temperature, fuel, transmission oil pressure, transmission oil temperature, voltmeter, engine oil pressure. Other indicators: Hour meter, low brake pressure buzzer, combination key-type ignition/starter switch with starter lock out, reverse warning alarm. Options Air-conditioning in the cab Three types of container engagement systems Various types and sizes of pneumatic and solid (pneumatic shaped) tyres Hydraulic accumulator shock absorber (mandatory for machine on solid tyres) Spare wheel Special paint colour (black parts remaining black)

Warning Care must be exercised when handling elevated loads. When the carriage and/or load is elevated, truck stability is reduced. It is important that mast tilt in either direction be kept to a minimum when loads are elevated. Operators must be trained and adhere to the instructions contained in the Operating Manual.
