1.0 INTRODUCTION
1.1 Objective
The objective of the Quran School Guidelines (QSG) is to provide policy and procedure in regards to managing the Quran School in South Musallah on the behalf of South Calgary Muslim Community.
1.2
Scope
This QSG contains the Quran school charter, school staff regulations and responsibilities, Students Responsibilities, study material and levels description, progress reporting mechanism and provide amendment procedure based on community and staff feedback.
3.0 REGULATIONS
3.1 Staff Regulations
1) All staff members are volunteers. 2) All staff members should be able to teach. 3) Each staff member should sign the staff registration form. The registration form lists the staff member duties according to this document, contact information and relevant schedule. Any changes to the information on the registration form should require a new form to be filled and signed. 4) To avoid any conflict of interest, staff shall not be member of South Musallah management committee. 5) All female staff should comply with Hijab requirements.
3.2
Students Regulations
1) Students should be attending a public school or any Alberta education approved program. 2) Minimum age for students registration to Quran School shall be 6 years and no limit to maximum age.
4.1
School Manager
School Manager Duties shall be as follow; 1) Reporting the school progress and financial records end of every month in a form of month end letter. 2) Preparing annual summary in form of a report and presentation based on submitted month end report. 3) Planning and arranging supplies of the school. 4) Parents and staff meeting organization on each individual student twice in a school year to review child progress. 5) Organize school and parent annual meeting to review school progress in general and perform surveys for future improvements. 6) Teaching a period, if a staff member is not available for teaching. 7) Attending each school period for any emergency requirement. 8) Preparing and keeping records of students and staff registration forms, payments and following up on renewal time with parents. 9) Keeping records of annual parents evaluations to be included in the annual report and presentation. 10) Keeping records of monthly teachers student evaluations to be included in the monthly report and keeping all teaching materials samples. 11) Preparing and distributing graduation and intermediate certificates
4.2
School Coordinator
School Coordinator Duties shall be as follow; 1) Continuous recruitment of teaching staff and preparing their teaching schedule. 2) Calling and following up with each staff member every week prior teaching period to assure the attendance and preparation.
4.3
Teachers
Teachers Duties shall be as follow; 1) Assuring the compliance with Alberta Education Management committee teaching regulations. 2) Assuring safety of each student from the time of arrival to the school till the departure from the school. 3) Monitoring students during teaching period including breaks. 4) Teaching the provided material and recording the progress of the period as a guide for next period. This requires maintenance of a log book provided by management. 5) Reporting student progress to the management on monthly basis. 6) Maintain students attendance record and conduct log book.
6.1
Level 1:
1) Arabic Letters (reading and writing). 2) Arabic Letters with eleven sounds (reading and writing). Eleven sounds are Fatha, Dammah, Kasrah, Sokoon, Dammatain, Kasratain, Fathatain, Shaddah Fatha, Shaddah Dammah, Shaddah Kasra, and Madd. 3) Arabic Letters with Vowels (reading and writing). Vowels are Alef, Woow and Yah. 4) Letters recognition in the beginning, middle and end of a word. 5) Twenty selected Quranic words reading and writings with their English meanings. 6) Reading Quran from Surat Attakathur to Surat Annas & surat fataiha. 7) This level requires minimum 20 hours of teaching over maximum of FIVE months.
6.2
Level 2:
1) Level 1 is mandatory. 2) Fifty selected Quranic words reading and writing with their English meanings including level 1 words. 3) Reading Quran from Surat Annas to Surat Alfajr. 4) Emphasis on Shadda and Madd sound while reading. 5) Two stories of Quran: Surat Alqalam and Surat Alfeel (oral only). 6) This level requires minimum 16 hours of teaching over maximum of FOUR months.
6.3
Level 3
1) Level 2 is mandatory. 2) Hundred selected Quranic words reading and writings with their English meanings including level 2 words. 3) Reading Quran from Surat Annas to Surat Annabaa (Juzz Thirty). 4) Emphasis on Shadda and Madd sound while reading. 5) Two stories of Quran: Surat Albrooj and Surat Almasad (oral only). 6) This level requires minimum 12 hours of teaching over maximum of THREE months.

Level 5
1) Level 4 is mandatory. 2) Two hundred selected Quranic words reading and writings with their English meanings including level 4 words. 3) Reading Quran from Surat Alfateha to Surat Annas (whole Quran). 4) Emphasis on Shadda and Mad sound while reading with little bit of selected Tajweed rules. 5) Memorizing from Surat Annas to Surat Attakathur. 6) This level requires minimum FOURTY hours of teaching over maximum of SIX months.
8.0 REPORTING
School manager reports to South Musallah management committee. South Musallah management committee supports and finances the project initiation, and does not appoint staff or interferes in its policies or by laws. The management committee only receives the monthly and annual reports. This school mainly runs based on feed back from students parents directly. South Musallah management committee has the right to stop any changes to this document or any new addition if not according to this documents by laws. For the management committee to assure the implementation of this document, school should submit copy of any changes to the management committee. If the changes are according to this document by laws, then management committee has no right to interfere.
10.0 TREASURY:
The school treasury should be handled by the SMSC.
11.0 DEFINITIONS
SMSC: South Musallah Society of Calgary Muslim Community student: All student, male or female of Islam faith followers families and not limited to any Muslim sects and other faith than Islam followers under their parents consent can be admitted. Reading Entire Holy Quran: Reading the Holy Quran includes ability to read Arabic script and limited to write all letters and some selected words only. Reading also includes first level Tajweed recitation as well. Reading does not include memorization of Holy Quran but interested under their parents consent may be encouraged and special classes may be arranged Year: Year is defined according to the solar calendar. The CBE (Calgary Board of Education) school year schedule applies. In addition, Quran School is off during Islamic month of Ramadan. Staff: Staff (male and female) includes teachers and management members. It includes any other who may contribute at a short period basis as well.
