Abstract To develop large-scale electricity industry continuously, Power systems are requested to be high confidence. And digital & automation-based technology is needed over the length and breadth of power system management. As a result of this, IEC 61850, which is standard for building automation systems, was established for dispersed power. All systems and devices are also required to change into digital and networkbased systems. In this paper, we propose the outline how digital substation automation systems develop, and share application cases.

SIEMENS systems are explained as below. 1. DIGSY Configuration: XML file configuration 2. IED File Download 3. SICAM_PAS UI : RCB creation / Data acquisition 4. WIN CC : HMI Appl setting and configuration 5. System supervision and control : Tag based

I. INTRODUCTION Different protocols were utilized in the electricity market before IEC 61850-based communication specifications for the substation automation are proposed. But it is difficult for devices in the substation to communicate each other and have compatibility. According to apply IEC 61850 unified with UCA(Utility Communications Architecture) 2.0-based data models and service, IEDs in all substations were integrated into a standard protocol and substation automation system (SAS) was required based on it. We analyzed foreign or domestic products to build IEC 61850-based SAS and systems requirements specifications for SAS were defined. On based it, we show implementation results and application cases for SAS. A IEC 61850-based communication model, which is applied to implemented SAS, and service were certified by KEMA (Keuring van Electrotechnische Materialen). Therefore, our SAS obtained high confidence and stability. II. SAS BASED ON IEC 61850 A. Products Analysis In a field of substation automation, ABB, SIEMENS, GE, SELL, AREVA are in foreign corporations. They launched HMI(Human Machine Interface) connected with the IEC 61850-based IED, and these products are being operated in several fields. We explain cases of ABB and SIEMENS solutions. MicroSCADA Pro at ABB consists of several components and has IED series according to relay elements. SIEMENS products are classified as below. - SICAM PAS CC : SICAM PAS CC, Station Unit - SIPROTEC 4: IEC 61850 protocol supported IED - DIGSI 4 : Bay Level HMI

B. Digital Substation Management Systems Design Digital substation management systems acquire and process data at the field in real-time and other jobs are processed at the same time or sequentially by priority. Especially, IEC 61850based substation facilities require DB interface analysis and

design because of utilizing information modeling for data exchange between IEDs. And communication functions are also required for communication between SAS and IED. Therefore, IEC 61850-based digital substation management systems are developed by following processes. 1. Systems architecture design 2. Component configuration and action functions description 3. Logical/Physical data structure design for substation facilities Existing substations HMI systems make a point of contact information for the RTU and mapping table. And software by a manufacturer is utilized to supervise and control the IED. But all IEC 61850-based communication utilizes the standard protocol, which consists of station, bay, process level. Accordingly, it is simple to integrate and manage systems. MMS(Manufacturing Message Specification) in IEC 61850 consists of the server(IED) and the client(HMI). HMI obtains all data from IEDs (Fig. 2).

C. Digital Substation Management Systems Functions Introducing IEC 61850-based standardized specifications requires to design object-oriented SAS. Accordingly, existing SCADA systems are required to be improved. SAS is based on windows OS, and the server is dual-mode to be operated continuously. Because of providing substations facilities and line information in real-time, GUI(Graphic User Interface) is required. And editing DB, graphic is available without restarting systems. Functions for digital substation management systems are as below. - Systems management and security: Log-on, User authority permission - Operation: Processing facilities and line information in real-time - IED interface: Providing status and measurement information, control process - DB editor: Edit and revision - Graphic editor: Object-oriented graphic process, Script editor - Trend: Providing trend of history in real-time - Event and alarm: real-time event and alarm process - SOE: Providing history of SOE - Fault waveform analysis: Acquiring and analyzing fault waveform - SCL DB Generator: Importing and exporting SCL file - Busbar Coloring: Information for pressurized and nonpressurized facilities - Voice alarm: Processing voice information by priority Fig. 4 shows a view of log-on in our systems. We operate systems with user authority.

To model SAS as data and service, we need to analyze ACSI(Abstract Communication Service Interface). It provides information models, modeling methods, structure information about service to access the specific object models elements. SAS requires DB design for it because of processing interface and communicating with class information and service. Architecture for digital substation management systems consists of 3 layers. Communication layer processes interface for IEDs. Power information & data process layer acquires and processes data in the field. And presentation layer is related with user interface. Fig. 3 is component architecture, which consists of these layers.
