Job application in JP Cement, for openings in your organization. I am Ravi Shankar Tripathi, fresher, MIT School of Business, Pune.
Job applications ! I can tell from my own experience that it s quite exciting when you send an email for job in some company. You would keep checking your inbox after short intervals expecting a reply to your application. One day, 2 days, 3 days and you do not get a reply. You feel sad and try again in some other company. The same thing happens there and keep happening to you while your friends are getting placed. You have no clue as to what is wrong. You keep trying and no success. Once some experienced person told me the definition of insanity Doing the same thing again and again and expecting different results ! . What you need to understand is that there lies some problem and you have to correct it to get better results. And majority of the times the problem is either with your CV or with your way to apply for the job. If any one of these are not appealing, you would miss a chance. I already wrote a post on how to prepare a CV. You can refer to that post here.In this post we will focus on writing an email for a job application. My experience I have over 4 years of experience which include software development at various levels, handling recruitment s for the company i was working with, setting up and running my own company for almost 2 years now. I have been interviewing people for almost 3 years now and counseling students regarding career and various other things. In total i have interviewed over 100+ candidates both experienced people with 1-7 years of experience and freshers. I owned an employers account from monster and posted jobs on monster for recruitments in my company. Once we posted a job on a job portal and checked the auto CV search on ( monster would automatically search CV s matching the job profile and email them to the job poster ) , we would get 1200+ emails in our inbox every day on an average !! What do you think we did with those 1200 CV s ?? We shift deleted them !! Strange, but that s true. We wont be calling 1200 candidates everyday and interviewing them. We searched all the emails for some specific words and deleted all the emails which contained those words. Now in such a scenario if you want you CV to be noticed it will have to stand out. The subject of you email, what you write in your email, the name of the word / pdf file you attach with your email, your email writing style etc all should be taken care of for getting a positive reply to your job application. I shall talk about general professional email writing tips in some other post, in this one i would provide you some tips and sample content on writing an email for a job application. A few things you need to take care of Your email subject The subject of your email should clearly specify who you are, your qualification and your skill set. In case you are applying for some specific job opening and you have the job code,
you should mention that in the email subject itself so that the person receiving your email can put it into the correct folder and then refer to it later. You CV file name Please note that the name of the CV word / pdf file you attach with your email should be named such that the person receiving it can get all the required information with even having to open you CV and reading it. Please do not name your CV files as MyCV.docs, SampleCV.docx, YourNameCV.docx etc. Be polite and humble in your writing style Always remember that when you apply for a job, its extremely important to be polite and humble in your writing style. The person reading your email should feel that you have requested him rather than feeling that you have ordered him. There are a few common email contents i would like to share here and request that you people should never ever use them: I am sending my CV for any job opening in your company. Lets be practical
I shall keep my article very much practical. Lets not try and give you some feel good factor that O dont worry, everything will be fine. You will do good, you will succeed for sure.. Well you wont, if you dont make sincere efforts to succeed. You need to understand one important thing, which will help you perform your best during any interview you appear for Success cannot be guaranteed, it can only be attained. All that you can do is give your best shot sincerely and leave the rest to nature. Let the nature decide whether you fit in for the job you are appearing for or not.
software engineer. If you are appearing for a financial advisor job, your appearance should be like that of a financial advisor. A small tip to help you decide how to dress Dress the way you want people to see you. If you want people to consider you a successful person, dress like a successful person. If you want people to consider you a responsible person, a dependable person, dress like one. You outer appearance speaks a hell lot about who you are.
Be a good listener
Talk less and to the point, dont just change the track of the conversation by your directionless talking and waste time during the interview. The best way to do less talking and keeping the conversation on track, atleast from your side, is by being a good listener. By acting as a good listener you will be benefiting in a lot many ways, you will understand the question properly, you will understand the expectations of the interviewer properly, you will understand the context of the question being asked properly and can then frame your answer accordingly. Therefore by being a good listener you can impress the interviewer with your smart answers and to the point conversation skills.
them. It should be all in black and white. You answer what you know and you just leave what you dont know. Dont try to make things gray by trying to answer every question. That would go negative for you, as the interviewer will feel that you are trying too hard to answer when you dont know the answer. So its better to say im sorry, i have no clue for this question !
