If this is your rst Latin Mass The Holy Mass brings us face-to-face with Mystery. During the Mass, the events of our salvation are made truly present upon the altar: God becomes man, sacrices Himself for our sins, and nourishes us with Himself as our heavenly food. So great a mystery cannot be fully understood in this life! The Rite of the Mass attempts to lead the soul into the depths of this mystery, through many layers of prayer, ritual, art, music, and silence. Newcomers generally nd that they cannot follow all aspects of the Mass at once. If you wish, you may follow only the texts that are sung aloud, in this brief booklet. Christus Vincit This triumphal litany proclaims the kingship and power of Christ, and calls down His blessing, protection, and peace, upon the Church, the pope, and the bishop. Christus vincit, Christus regnat, Christus imperat! Christ conquers, Christ reigns, Christ commands!

Credo: Missa terna Christi Munera (Palestrina) (red missal, page 20) I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only-begotten Son of God. Born of the Father before all ages. God of God, Light of Light, true God of true God. Begotten, not made; consubstantial with the Father: by Whom all things were made. Who for us men, and for our salvation, came down from heaven. (Here all kneel.) And was incarnate by the Holy Ghost of the Virgin Mary: and was made man. (Rise.) He was crucied also for us, suered under Pontius Pilate, and was buried. And on the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures. And He ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of the Father.
